Is BHVR ok with vast majority of the community players avoiding playing the killer role?

I suppose the devs put almost all their efforts developing the killers that are the face and main role of DbD, and yet a big part of the community just doesn't feel COMFORTABLE playing with them.

Which should not make sense to me. Dead by Daylight is a unique game in the market, it has those legendary characters that are "loved" for millions of people and the original ones that are even more amazing. But I feel the players are discouraged playing the killer role.

I've seen people from reddit, facebook groups and mainly twitch streamers... there are WAAAAY more players choosing the survivor role, even when the queues are much more longer.

I don't know it it's okay, but I don't think it should be. It's like people are buying an amazing cake and only eating the cherry.

Well killer can be very frustrating. Once survivors get semi competent at doing gens and looping, most killers are just terrible vs them. Especially if the player playing the killer is average skill level. This then makes people shy away from the killer role. Now, I'm not saying survivor can't be frustrating, because survivors do deal with face campers at times, and low skill teammates quite often, even at red ranks. The thing with survivor is that even though you can face those things, you can still have a pretty pleasant experience if you are a competent survivor player. If you can run and hit gens hard, even most competent killers won't be too much of an issue when the killer player is playing the majority of the killer roster. A competent killer usually also has a decent time because most survivors are not very good at the game. But once you face competent survivors on a killer like Wraith, or Ghost Face, you are gonna struggle.

Well it technically makes sense for the devs to make the survivor experience more pleasent since when there is one killer playing there's four survivors playing. They have to realize there's no survivors without the killer so they should make both sides equal.

I couldn't agree more with this. They need to be treating both as equals, not as "oh more play this role therefor we neglect the other role" and honestly the same can be said about the platforms. The devs tend to neglect the platforms that have a lower playerbase. Take Switch for example. It's the MOST EXPENSIVE platform and it's neglected by the devs and their bugs aren't taken into consideration by either a mod or dev until a steam player reports it. (Elodie's screams was reported as a Switch bug the day Binding of Kin was released, I didn't see one dev/mod respond to that bug until a steam player reported it like 2-3 weeks later)

Not a fan of learning a whole other side of DBD Just to have fun. I used to but that didnt get me very far and I didnt enjoy chasing as much as I did running away and looping killers; it just doesn't give that same thrill.

When killer would be more fun for most people, you would have a problem.

I mean 20% killer and 80% survivor would make an equal matchmaking time. Maybe less survivor bc not all survivor play til the end of the match.

It seems currently there are less then 20% killer. When both roles would be equal it would be a disaster. So i dont think the devs want that. They would need bots.

I'm not entirely sure, but would anyone argue tho that Nintendo Switch has one of the smallest player bases by platform.

Wouldn't disagree with switch being perhaps the lowest platform, but I want to see Console to PC player count. See if that is why they sometimes turn a blind eye to console.

Console definitely outnumbers PC by a significant margin.

DBD is consistently on Microsoft's most played games list, up there with CoD's, NBA and Fortnite.

Then I would think they'd try to make console as smooth as possible. But the devs strive for CoNsIsTeNcY.

I think that there are really major issues in both roles, making them both flawed for solo players. (Like going against a sweat squad as killer, or going against a super sweaty killer when you're running a meme build on survivor. Or even just matchmaking screwing you as killer, or getting tunneled out in ~2 minutes as Survivor because the killer had no mercy and your team decided to farm you in a deadzone.)

But I think one of the big strains (randos) can be remedied as Survivor with a SWF, even if you're not very coordinated, and it just makes the game so much more fun when you play with buds.

Plus, it's just personal preference. I like playing killer, but I don't find it enjoyable enough to want to play regularly. I just find the role to be more boring overall. I can consistently hit red ranks on both roles, but if I have time to play a killer match, I have time to do something else that I'd have more fun doing. At least with Survivor I can do it under the guise of long queue times let me work on other things, and I can do it with friends.

I can play 20 survivor games and call it a night sometimes. I can only stomach maybe 3-5 killer games.

I play a pretty even split and frankly both can be super frustrating. Alot of times when i play killer i get completely mismatched skill wise because of the long queues which is super annoying and frustrating.

Today i played 4 games of survivor all of which had afk teammates so i quit playing for the night, i play survivor as a duo not solo because solo survivor would be even worse.

Well for one, only Survivors can queue with their friends. Huge reason why it's more popular.

But I'd also add that Survivor is just infinitely more forgiving to play (especially with friends) and so it's more attractive to the average player by default.

I reached rank 1 today again on killer. I really try to enjoy killer more cause solo survivor can be SO damn painful sometimes but I just enjoy the survivor role more. I really WISHED I would like playing killer more than I do cause it's most of the time way more chill than solo survivor.

I mean behavior may not be okay with it but i sure am queues are fantastic.

Well I mean, you need 4x the amount of people to be playing survivor, so even if you find that line of thinking problematic, I think the devs do it to speed up que times.

80% of all players in a dbd match are survivor so yeah the overwhelming majority of players will be playing survivor.

There's no solid statistics to back up any assertion on the ratio of killers yet. But now, there seems to be a healthy balance, as queue times are somewhat reasonable.

If I could force my friends to play DBD, I would play star wars with friends

You have 1 killer vs 4 survivors. If there equal amount of survivors and killers, then survivors have to wait for queue 4 times longer.

It's only evening/night time problem though. At evening players have their friends ready to play survivor together. While daytime survivor queue is short, and killer queue takes forever. It happens because most players are busy and those who have free time have to play solo. And playing killer is much more interesting than solo survivor, so there is more killers and less survivors at daytime.
