What's with all the keys?

I'm a rank 4-5 killer tonight.

I've seen a key literally every match, across 8 matches so far (plus I dodged at least three lobbies where they had two maps and a key).

What gives? If you survivors don't wanna play, I hear Civilization is a very good game.

They myn't be worried about them getting nerfed soon or just really want to make sure they escape. Only time I've used a key is if I find it in a chest but I only only use it I f I need to, otherwise I leave through exit and add it to my collection. Only time I've ever brought one in to use is when the archives have challenges to use them.

Got my first Iri Key with Franklin's tonight. It was a magical moment. Turned into a 3k and hatch for one that didn't bring a key. Wonderful bait as it lay on the ground.

Some people want to use the items they find through matches or through the bloodweb. Some people have to use them to get certain archives done. Some people are jerks about it.

Honestly if the community wasn't so wrapped up in this code about how keys are the worst thing in existence, we probably wouldn't have a nuclear stockpile to begin with. I have 86 keys across all my characters, and I don't use them because before it was an immediate ebony mori, and while I mostly thing the problem has been fixed on that end, it's still garbage to bring a key in and potentially ruin 3 other's game because the killer takes some personal offense to an item being brought into the game.

But maybe I've just been unlucky. Maybe it's really just an unlucky few who have tried to beat that concept into my head. "Bring a key, you get mori."

Today I had a wraith try to mori everybody and he almost succeeded too, but his potential third fouled that up for him by willingly allowing himself to die on second hook rather than let me save him. The Wraith then tried to get all cute with me by finding the hatch first and then remain invisible until I showed up so he could slam it on me. But the joke was on him because I had a key, and literally the second he shut it I reopened it. He was being cute, but I was cuter. It was entirely his fault though because I was wounded and if he was uncloaked he could have just hit me and that would have been the end of it.

Bring key; get morid was the natural balance. Now it’s bring Franklins and get camped, which is less effective.

I can’t believe ruin undying is being nerfed first. No wonder less people play killer. I bet the devs look at the stats and it’s like “wow key users die a lot” when killers obviously tunnel them out of the game. It’s the same reason object isn’t getting nerfed

As a solo survivor, I can't stand them either. The other night, I loaded into a lobby with 3 other survivors who were bringing keys into a trial and was rolling my eyes so hard hoping they'd remove them. Unfortunately they didn't and to their surprise, the killer we were facing was a Nurse. The nurse slugged them all not even 5 minutes into the match and I did NOT bother saving them from the hook. I just focused on getting the only generator done and watched them all die. Nurse began chasing me and thankfully I ended up getting the hatch.

I will not bother to save any survivor I see in the lobby who brings a key, because I've been screwed over by them every single time as a solo survivor. I'll do the gens while the key holder (usually in SWF) just wait until myself or the rest of the other survivors die/do enough gens so the hatch appears so they make their escape. Call it selfish of me, but I don't care anymore.

I could say the same about mori

Moris are completely fine and a non-threat now though? The killer needs 2 hooks in order for them to mori.

    Keys are still very unfair.

Keys are going to get nerfed at some point, So they are using them up until that happens. Either that, Or they just want a guaranteed escape.

Oh here we go: keys are evil blah blah blah.

For reference - I have only ever taken a key when it is a challenge to escape by a hatch.

Maybe... just maybe most if not all of these hyperbolic matches you referenced - the survivor(s) had a challenge to escape using a key.

Maybe... they had nothing else left in their inventory to bring and are getting ready to prestige their character and want to get some use of the thousands of BP they had to use to get the key.

Maybe... it was a 2-3-4 person SWF and 1 or more of them needed to escape from the hatch.

I wouldn't talk about people not wanting to PLAY the game when you admit to dodging lobbies because you didn't want to PLAY against them.

I'm actively trying to get tunneled, so I'll bring a broken key or a skeleton key with blood amber if have one spare, along with object!

I get its toxic but I don't use the keys to escape, I just want to practice getting chased!!

    A few things, imo.

    • Moris got sent to garbage town, so there's considerably fewer consequences for bringing a key. Franklins is really not very good.
    • They're going to get nerfed, and may end up as bad as the current moris, so people are using them more.
    • There are a few tome challenges they're useful for.
    • People just wanna win.

Most of which could have been fixed with nerfing moris and keys at the same time like everyone wanted, but god forbid a sensible choice be made. So here we are.
