Next gen console frame drops
Although the new consoles are a HUGE improvement to the stability of the game, I have to ask if anyone has the same problem as me. When i am playing killer ( Xbox Series X) the frame rate seems fine until I go near a gen that has lots of progress or is finished, then the game loses a lot of frames and stutters a lot until I go away from it again.
I can't seem to figure out why this would happen, this pretty much happens on every map. Can anyone explain or help out?
Edit : Thank you to @Katzengott for pointing out that the fps drops is tied to the new lighting they added in 4.2.0. Hopefully it can be looked at and optimized in future patches.

I'd be interested in hearing if this is happening to others on the Next Gen consoles and if it's specific to the ones you listed. So please tag me in replies if you're having this issue....thank you.

That's pretty sad. I am using a 3-generations old video card and a junk CPU on PC and I don't have that problem.

Hi @MandyTalk I have this issue on the Steam version with a GTX 1060 6GB graphics card so it isn't restricted to consoles only.

The thing is, is that I dont think its the console running dbd. Rather I think its an optimization bug that causes the game to lag around finished gens. Because it runs fine around non-complete gens and gets laggier the more progress the gen has.

It's pretty consistent that this happens? You should run some private games and record it to be sure.

Pretty much the only positive note I left on the last survey was that the game runs flawlessly on PS5. Genuinely could not find any FPS issues even if I was nitpicking
Sorry to hear some issues are present on the new xbox. I can definitely sympathize with how frustrating that is though - on PS4, I would be hard-pressed to find a span of 60 seconds in game without some kind of serious FPS issues. I have some old PS4 nurse game videos where the FPS during blinks drops to a powerpoint slideshow

I'm not having any frame drops on my console (PS5). I'm sorry it's ruining your game experience, though.

hi, i have xbox series x. it's right when you play assassin the game crashes and the FPS drops to 20. send a ticket to DBD but as always do not wait for an answer. I stopped playing as a murderer I hope that the other week with the new maps will fix this

It can happen briefly on ps5 and pc too, just part of the dbd experience lol. if you don't under tweak the gameusersettings and/or reso slider until you have at least 20% gpu usage to spare from the lobby that'll happen sometimes on some maps when it briefly spikes due to poor optimization. 20%+ sudden spike like that is basically no excuse but poor optimization lmao

I've had that on pc before, it was before the performance survey if I remember correctly. I believe it's Ray Tracing issue, back then I disabled it in config files and there were no frame drops near gens or oni with his power.

There is no ray tracing yet unless you mean something on the tests erver I reckon. god forbid ray tracing int his game. It would stutter all the time I bet.

UE 4.25 supports ray tracing and I think it's enabled by default on a certain hardware.

I have an rtx and the last time I ran it on steam it wasn't for me. just because the engine version Can support, doesn't mean that every game uses it. Maybe it's used on the test server, unless there was a patch in january I missed, but otherwise it isn't enabled on the live version anyways.

For testing add this to engine.ini file and run the game with -dx12 option
[ShaderPlatform PCD3D_SM5] bSupportsRayTracing=true bSupportsRayTracingMissShaderBindings=true bSupportsRayTracingIndirectInstanceData=true bSupportsWaveOperations=false bSupportsGPUScene=true

interesting. what's the fps on it? Without dlss I'm probably not gonna try it though lol.

It's not that bad, for me like over 50fps on low settings on gtx 1070. It's probably not full support ray tracing but the game seems less blurry.

@MandyTalk Switched from Xbox One X to Xbox One Series X recently and have the same problem on both sides.
Already made a thread about it: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/221334/lightning-sfx-on-rewoked-maps-causes-massive-fps-drops-on-xbox-one-series-x
The problem might be the new lighting effects intruduced back in 4.2.0
And it's not just generators, also fire barrels and other bigger light sources (esp. on Badham) are causing massive fps drops.

Thank you, I've been trying to figure out what causes this. Hopefully it can be optimized in upcoming patches.

I've noticed it too.
