Why were keys added?
What was the idea behind keys? Didn't a possible instant four-man escape at a location the killer didn't even know seem a little overpowered?
Of course, you need to complete gens, but if you hold on generators or wait for one survivor to die, you can get everybody out through the hatch, with decent coordination.

I have no idea

I always wondered what made the devs go:
"Let's make an item to circumvent the entire objective system and just let Survivors win without even needing a progress bar."
9 -
To incite discourse between killers and survivors.
4 -
Keys as-is are kinda broken. With some minor changes, such as taking time to open hatch, only allowing 1 survivor to escape at a time, etc, they could be fine.
4 -
When the game wasn’t competitive it was a kind of second chance when in a chest
As for bringing it in, Aura reading? I guess

Oh, kind of like moris? And how you were originally able to kill survivors without even hooking them?
3 -
One for a purple key 4 with a red key but you need the time extending addons for it
0 -
The same reason why the Brand New Part add-on for toolboxes was able to complete a gen instantaneously.
0 -
Instant? You need to finish 5 gens for an "instant" 4-man escape.
Sheesh.
3 -
You people obviously don't even play Survivor, because you're so clueless about how keys work.
You have to finish gens to escape with the key. That, or only one survivor makes it out alive. Originally you had to finish gens to escape even just for one survivor. They changed that with EGC.

4 man escape requires powering all 5 gens. Did they expect that? Yes, its an achievement.
3 -
Probably because the devs thought they would be fun mechanics to add to the game. Unfortunately, they're only fun for one side.
Same deal with Moris.

"Obviously" I don't play Survivor. Clearly. Yup. Ya got me, Detective.
No, you don't have to do generators to get a Key to work. Besides the obvious trick of using it on an already closed hatch when the Killer goes to patrol exit doors, it is entirely possible to simply find a place to hide while your allies do just enough generators for the hatch to spawn, and then you escape without lifting a finger. I know, I've seen it happen many times.

It's in reference to not requiring time to open, like an exit gate.
Sheesh.

I mean they're an "EZ escape" a survivor main once told me and I agreed with him, they are an easy escape.

A while back iirc a dev said if survivors escape with a key it's your own fault for not being observatant enough, but that was way back and they have said they're changing keys. Whatever reason they had to add keys then no longer matters now.

When it was introduced the hatch appeared when the SECOND GEN was completed. keys were put in because the hatch was put in. gives a quick end to a match that survivors don't want to be in. killers never get a quick end mori's were the only way, and still they had to catch the survivors and down them even at original mori you'd get 2 gens done long before more than one was killed by mori then hatch was available.

This.
It was something introduced in the beginning of the game, which now with other problems such as kicking mechanic, are OUTDATED, and for some reasons, the team refuses to release a rework for it.
2 -
You showing that just shows youre not that experienced lmao

Keys are one of the few things that has remained unchanged since the beginning of the game, the devs had no idea how this game was gonna turn out which explains why there were some much more questionable things, BNP instantly repairing gens, insta heals, insta blinds, insta mori's, and Im not even gonna get into perks cause thats a whole other can of worms
1 -
That doesn't even make any sense.

You're only Devotion 1 Level 1. Meaning I'm assuming you have about 100-200 hours and well Rank 5 isn't very impressive to most.
0 -
Up to 229 hours, actually. And now I'm Rank 4, and in Red Ranks.
I think I have made my point. I definitely can say I am immune to the claim of "you clearly don't play Survivor"
0 -
229 hours really ain't that much when it comes to this game. And you may have played survivor for the majority of your hours but that's still not saying much.
0 -
It's enough to know how a #$%ing Key works.
0 -
let me get this straight? you have 229 hours and you know what was there at the start of the game in 2016? more than people that have 1000's of hours in the game? something doesn't add up, sure you might know how a key works but I'm doubting your knowledge about the devs and the beginning of the game.
0 -
Clearly not, since it doesn't completely get rid of the survivors objective, does it make it easier to escape? yes. But they still need to work for it.
0 -
The Key user doesn't though. There is no requirement for it. You could have Dwight Do-Right kicking ass on gens, get tunneled to oblivion while the Keymaster is doing their best cosplay of a bush on Claudette, and then dip out.
0 -
In the situation of 2 people left, a key wouldnt of made a difference

To open things

Probably the same thought process that got Moris in the way they were.
It went something like
