Bad Perk University: Babysitter

Hello class, welcome to Bad Perk University! I'll be your professor for today, and we'll be going over the worst perks The Entity has to offer and see how to make the most out of them. Today's perk was one of the recent shrine perks, Babysitter. Admittedly, this perk sounds pretty cool in concept. When you unhook a survivor, it gets rid of the survivor's blood and scratch marks for 8 seconds. It also reveals the killer's aura to you, and reveals your aura to the killer. The reason I like this perk in concept is because it's almost an entirely selfless perk. Most, if not all of what the perk does is to the benefit of the survivor you unhook, allowing them to run far away from the hook knowing that the killer won't be able to tunnel them as easily. The aura reading you get from the perk is the only personal benefit you get from using the perk, but don't forget that the killer will also see your aura if they're paying attention. The purpose of the killer seeing your aura is so that you can act as a distraction (maybe point and t-bag for reassurance).

So why is this perk bad? It's not terrible or anything, but the fact that you get almost no personal benefit from the perk can be enough to turn people away. There's also the fact that while Babysitter removes blood and scratch marks, it doesn't prevent aura reading. In that case, you just have to hope that the survivor's using Distortion or Off the Record or something to that effect (yeah right). The primary issue with Babysitter is that the main benefit a somewhat situational effect. If you unhook the survivor and the killer is far away, you're probably better off just healing the survivor under the hook, in which case the removal of blood and scratch marks doesn't matter at that point. If the killer is close by, by which I mean they're about to reach you, you'd better hope they don't hit the survivor you decided to unhook in the killer's face. If the killer is dead set on tunneling the unhooked survivor, no blood or scratch marks will only help so much. Those 8 seconds go by fairly quickly.

So how do we make the most out of this perk? It's actually a pretty easy answer, and you probably already know it. I'll give you two answers: We'll Make It, and Borrowed Time. To absolutely nobody's surprise, Borrowed Time is a very good perk to run with Babysitter. Borrowed Time is already a meta perk that allows for unsafe unhooks in close proximity to the killer, but when paired with Babysitter, it gives extra insurance to make sure the survivor gets away. I know the usual way survivors make use of Borrowed Time is to body block the killer and bait them into hitting them instead of the unhooker, and I mean whatever, do what you want, but I feel that when survivors do this, they miss out on the true advantage that having the Endurance status gives: making distance. Especially when paired with Babysitter, the killer should almost always leave you alone at that point, since trying to track you might not be worth their time. It also acts as a way of telling your teammate, "Hey, I've got Babysitter! Get the heck out of here!". What about We'll Make It? Other than it being a strong perk in general, it's there for those situations where the killer is already far from the hook and you don't need to have the survivor run away. Might as well quickly heal up under the hook. And if it's a high mobility killer that's made it back to the hook, We'll Make It lasts for 90 seconds, so that's quite a bit of time to meet back up to your teammate and heal them back up. Ironically, Babysitter is a perk that makes it so you don't have to babysit your friends. Just lead the killer away from them. Oh right, the aura reading part. I mean like I said, the point is to distract the killer, so do whatever it is you would normally do to BM the killer, if that's your cup of T-bag.

Closing thoughts, how do we make this perk better? Honestly, there's not a whole lot I would change about this perk. It's clearly meant to be a selfless perk, and I like that sort of thing. It's the reason why even though Borrowed Time is a meta perk, it's one I use every so often because it's for the sake of my fellow survivors. The perk's not so much for me, it's for helping my team. So long as you pair Babysitter with Borrowed Time, the perk does what it does pretty fine. I guess maybe I would like to see the perk's duration increased to 10 seconds, but not much more than that. It's funny, I think this is actually one of Steve's better perks. Camaraderie and Second Wind...I'll get to you two someday. Thank you for coming to my lesson, see you next class!

They should make it so the unhooked survivor doesn’t make any noise at all and they should double it’s duration then maybe it could be good?

That’s the whole point of Babysitter. It’s meant to be the opposite of an anti camp perk. Babysitter tells the user is it safe to heal under the hook (is the killer coming back?), or it tells the user to run AWAY from who you rescued to act as a diversion. The blood and no scratch marks just helps ensure that the killer is more likely to chase the Babysitter user, which is what that survivor is supposed to want.
