Why do people hate on spirit?

The Bubba argument doesn’t hold much weight. A decent player will get downed by Spirit’s two hits much faster than Bubba’s chainsaw.
The huge problem with her is that every other killer, even the strongest ones have counter-play. For example, line of sight weakens Nurse, windows against the chainsaw bros, etc. The only way to have ANY kind of counter to Spirit is if you randomly bring Iron Will + Spine Chill, bearing in mind you don’t know you’re going against a Spirit. This ‘counter play’ is already limited enough, but most spirits will use Strider which makes Iron Will almost worthless. Spine Chill really needs IW to counter her effectively. I don’t think anyone really cares about her passive phasing, it’s the fact that you can’t see her when she’s phasing. You don’t even know if she is, and many Spirits will simply stand still, until you show them you won’t fall for it. This puts survivors into a lose-lose where if they start running, she can easily catch up. If you try to stealth it out and she’s faking it, she can pull you away from the loop. She’s an extremely easy killer to play, and so her being on Nurse level is just absurd.
Yes, there are some tricks you can pull off, but it’s mainly down to how good the Spirit is, the survivor has very little control.

Also, Spirit is EXTREMELY harmful for many killer players. When she eventually gets nerfed, we’ll have a Freddy 2.0 situation where many killers at red rank legitimately don’t know how to play the game without a busted killer and complain about it being impossible to play. People who play her generally do so because she can consistently 4k with little skill, and when she’s harder to play, they’ll derank like crazy.

Yeah you can usually tell the ones who ranked up solely with spirit or freddy (until recently) and are trying out a different killer. Usually zero attempt at mindgames or much of an understanding of how to play tiles correctly at all. Then they get frustrated, blame it on balance, genrush, swf etc and decide only their main is truly "viable" at high ranks.
The other ones who can end up in red ranks before they can manage it are legion mains although that's for different reasons

In competent hands, her chase power is insanely oppressive and she has pretty much no counter play. Anybody who says differently, chances are, aren't competent hands.
That said, she often attracts pretty bad players who are chasing easy wins, and contrary to popular opinion, she's not a guaranteed 4k. Which is why she shouldn't be feared as much as she is; although as a killer she is insanely strong, there's a good chance the player behind the wheels is not.

Survivors hate every Killer that has control over the chase. (Nurse, Spirit, Slinger, etc)
