Constructive Criticism About New Animations

Opinion and Criticism

New walking animations look more immersed and more realistic. Why? Survivors look scared and more careful. Old animations did the same, but they felt a little more free and careless imo.

The Idle animation is the only animation that needs a lot of change. Before They used to spread their arms because they were afraid and were on the lookout, but with the new animation, they just... stand. It doesn't look like they're scared at all, the past animation overhauled the survivor's sense of fear much better. However, with the new animation, it's easier to hide behind trees because the arms are down.

Even the running while Injured animation looks NOT TOO BAD, but even funny. They look more constricted, that they, like in real life are trying to "grip the pain" with their hand, so people compare this animation to constipation, it is very similar.

Previously, the animation looked like they just had a little stomach ache and they were holding it with their hand, although they were beaten with iron or wooden pointed sticks. But the new animation is also far from ideal, it does not fully convey the feeling of pain and the desire to calm it down.

Additional animation in the form of stumbling also adds variety to the animation and looks quite realistic.

The crawl animation looks cool, but the animation of turning to the sides looks very weird, they seem to break in two and how the gum-glued ones turn it could be done a little better.

The downing animation looks very cool and raises no questions, now you can see how they go off the run and fly away which is much more realistic than before.

The animation of jumping into the hatch while dying looks a little crooked, it needs to be polished a little, especially it looks very weird when you jump into it while moving or while you're on the corners of the hatch.

I don't understand why a new crouching flashlight animation was implemented, I think it would be better if devs added the ability to shine a flashlight while running, maybe it would be too OP but I would personally test it before drawing conclusions.

With the new crawling animations survivors feel more cautious too, with the arms closer to the body and head a bit more downward making the survivors a little more stealthy.

Smooth transitions between animations is not an easy work and it looks more or less normal but it also needs polishing, and it also causes some problems.

And now the problems

With new animations hitboxes work very wrongly, it feels like the survivors' hitboxes are 1 meter larger which is very annoying, why the developers allowed the problem in the LIVE version of the game, I saw these bad hitboxes back in the PTB.

Due to the smooth transitions during the turns it became much more difficult to dodge the shot of Deathslinger and Huntress which is also very infuriating. Here devs can solve this in two ways: adjust the Killers for new animations, or redo the smoothness of the animation transition so that you can dodge as before but because of this the smoothness itself will suffer greatly, although who knows.

The new head rotation animation looks very unrealistic and too fast when someone moves the mouse very quickly, there were no such problems before and the head turns were much smoother.

In general, it is very clearly visible that the animations are not polished and devs need more time to polish them to perfection, but with this you can already play and feel the game a little differently than it was before and in my opinion, these feelings convey the horror component better than before.

This game needs some horror elements and it's rather disappointing that the players are much more important about esports than what the game is based on. This game is not designed for esports, everyone already knows that. In general, this whole topic with #revertdbdmovement looks very strange, because it is more important for players than a real problems, for example: Balance.

What would I recommend to do to improve animations:

Idle Animation:

For each survivor, use elements from his own Lobby animation, Or just redo it and make it more immersed.

How the new idle animation could work

Unless a Survivor is standing next to something that has a collision, he will use the usual idle animation, but when Survivor is standing tight with something that has a collision, he will pull his hands to this object and press himself a little, which will make hiding behind the trees even more interesting.

Running while Injured:

If Survivor has no Item, then he will hold his stomach with two hands instead of one. This will convey the fact that the survivor wants to calm the pain somehow. + Polish it.

The rest of the animations can be simply polished and they will become much better and smoother.

As I understand it, a lot of people do not like new animations because they just superficially examined the animations and saw flaws in them and took up arms against them, without going into details and ideas, and instead of asking the developers to polish them (some asked, but there are much less of them), they ask to go back to the older animations which look far less elaborate than the new ones and this is sad.

I've played the game for a little more than 2k hours and I truly think the new animations are good innovation, but they clearly need to be polished.
