DC penalties should be expelled from the game or at least changed...
So where I live, it is snowing. And usually, when it snows I lose connection to the server and I disconnect because of something that I can't control. I understand that DC penalties were created to prevent people from DCing too much and joining and do the same thing consistently. But the one problem with this is that there is no real way to determine whether the Disconnect purpose was intentional or it was something that cant be controlled so as an internet outage. I do not want to have this happen to me a lot anymore because if it does I could end up becoming banned from this game temporarily or permanently and I do not want that to happen to me. So, are Dc penalties really necessary?

Yes, they are.
If your connection isn't stable enough to play, then you run the risk of acquiring a lot of DC penalty time.
35 -
No they aren't. DC penalties was created to help tunnelling camping killers out. Killers complained that survivors was DCing and messing up their camping and tunnelling fun. After all... It's all about the killers having fun right?
6 -
Also, I've gotten disconnected 3xs do to the outages and get penalised each time. You would think Devs would put DC penalties in hold until after this winter storm but that's too much to ask for.
1 -
I live in Maine; it snows here a lot too. Get over it. The disconnect penalties should absolutely NOT be set aside. If you are having internet problems or reliability issues for ANY reason, it is polite not to play until they are corrected. All you are doing is inconveniencing four other people by insisting on trying to play when you know there is a good chance you will disconnect. Why on Earth do you feel it is ok to do this to other people?
23 -
Whether you left because you rage quit or because your power flickered out for half a second making you lose connection means nothing to the four people whose game you just ruined.
It sucks that you're losing connection from something out of your control but if your internet isn't stable enough to play an online match uninterrupted, you shouldn't be playing an online match.
14 -
So you're saying it's my fault for inconveniencing 4 others? The title also says at least changed for better.
1 -
Yes. If you know your internet is having problems, you should not be trying to play a game in which four other people rely on you. You aren't playing with Bots. So yes, if you INSIST on playing when you know there is an issue, that is ON YOU. Fix your issues or wait out the weather. Jump back in when all is well. That is the polite thing to do.
22 -
yeah!

I personally don't think they are. I mean, if someone wants out, they're just going to kill themselves on first hook and make the game worse for everyone else anyway.
Besides that, I don't really think they're necessary since I just see this as a casual game. Sure, it sucks that someone DC's, but I just don't see it as bad as someone DC-ing in Comp matches of other games.
(Obviously though, not encouraging DC-ing. I don't think it's good for someone to DC every game or anything- but I don't think having the DC Penalty really does anything to alleviate that problem or make it better, besides forcing the people who want to DC to kill themselves on first hook and throw- which still ruins the game for everyone.)
1 -
This is exactly what I'm trying to say meanwhile someone said it's my fault.
1 -
This does not make sense. it is not my fault I'm having internet issues. I feel attacked by the way you said it's my fault people have to suffer.
0 -
How about if the weather is bad you accept there's a chance you might dc or you do something else? If there's a bad thunderstorm when I play I don't expect BVHR to shut off their DC penalty for me.
10 -
Ummm.... hrm. I'm not sure how to respond to this in a kind, gentle way. So I'll point out a few things to you:
- Killers aren't the ones seriously put out when you disconnect; it is the other Survivors you screw over.
- The game doesn't provide fun, only a framework. You are responsible for your own fun.
- If you have been getting disconnected a great deal, and getting penalties, you DESERVE them.
Where do all you entitled, spoiled people come from? I'm sure you don't behave like this in person. Is it the computer interface that makes you think everyone you are dealing with online is a Bot or simply doesn't matter? Let me put this in perspective for you. It doesn't matter WHY you are getting disconnected, whether it is intentional or some external problem. The fact is you insist on playing when you know there is an issue and you are inconveniencing other people. Then you have the audacity to complain about being penalized for doing it?
20 -
It was a huge problem and the penalties turned it into a much rarer occurrence so they absolutely are required and have done a lot of good for the game.
Regarding your situation, that is something you have to figure out on your end, it is not up to everyone else to cater their experiences to one person because of issues they have with their own services or hardware.
My internet randomly drops between midnight and 6 am because I am on a cable net connection and it's not the most reliable in those hours; so what do I do? I just do not play during those hours, or if I do I stop playing after one or two mid game disconnects so that I don't accrue an increasing penalty and disrupt more people's games.
I have never once blamed the game, bhvr, or other people for an issue that has to do with my ISP provider.
6 -
Let me make this crystal clear, since you don't understand yet.
- You clearly KNOW you are having internet issues, correct?
- You are CHOOSING to play anyway, correct?
- The other Players who have their games screwed over by you are being inconvenienced, correct?
Do you see where I'm going with this? If you know you are having issues, you should not be playing until said issues are corrected. YOU are making a choice which you know will cause other people grief. That IS under your control, and thus the responsibility is YOURS.
18 -
🤣🤣 thanks for the paragraph saying absolutely nothing. You obviously can't read or better yet interpret what we're talking about. Right now we're in a state of emergency. Ask I said about being penalised is. They should take it off right now during the winter storm. You're talking about entitlement yet in the same sentence tell people what they should play during these troubling times. Oh I GET IT NOW.... YOU'RE NOT EFFECTED BY WHAT'S GOING IN SO YOU DON'T CARE. If that's the case then continue not caring and also not commenting to me. Regardless if I'm the one being affected or not, I can sympathise with others.
1 -
I used to be all about the DC penalty but these days I'm more against it. If someone doesn't want to play a game for whatever reason then they'll still DC, kill themselves on hook, or go AFK. If it happens at the beginning of a match then it's ruined the whole game anyway, now everyone just has to suffer through a pointless game. If I'm playing survivor and that happens then I just run up to the killer and hope they won't just slug me. As killer I'll just try to finish off the match quickly, which may come off as being sweaty, but really I just want it over.
2 -
Ok, so YOU don't see this as anything but a casual game. YOU don't feel disconnecting is as big a deal as doing it in Comp matches of other games. Why is that? Are those other games MORE important to you, and thus aren't casual? What about the people playing THIS game who DO find the matches important? What I'm pointing out is this is a rather selfish way of looking at it, i.e. because it isn't that important to you, it shouldn't matter if you disconnect; screw those other people. Or as Cartman would say, "screw you guys... I'm going home."
5 -
You're responsible for your on fun. That's hilarious.... Tell me... How do you control hitboxes (actually being hit from the back of the car while the killer is at the front)? Then being camped by killers who are happy that these glitches are helping them out. Bots on the internet? Now that's funny. Aren't you commenting your opinion just like everyone else. It's like the pot calling the kettle black right?
1 -
You don't understand either I CLEARY said It is something THAT IS NOT IN MY POSSESSION TO CONTROL and you're saying it's my fault. I wonder how you feel when that happens to you. You clearly don't understand my point. I DO NOT want to argue with someone that thinks that I'm the reason for ruining other people's lives.
0 -
Lots of people are in that same state of emergency. And if it is that big an emergency for you, WHY are you playing video games? You will forgive me if I don't have any sympathy for you. And as it happens, I am being affected by the SAME emergency. Why do you think I'm here posting and talking to an entitled person such as yourself rather than playing the game? Which do you think I would RATHER be doing? Posting doesn't inconvenience anyone if I lose internet during the process. All that will happen is I have to redo the post. I have the good manners NOT to be trying to play matches right now.
8 -
For you? Or for millions that might be affected? Show me where it says to turn off DC penalty because one person don't like it. Do something else? Maybe they don't have anything else to do and is just biding time. If you don't like his or her question then why don't you find something else to do??? I bet you got upset with that huh? Exactly. If people want to play even during this time it's their choice. Try respecting that and you'll get respected.

It isn't a difficult concept. Let me give you an analogy. If you are extremely sick, let's say suffering from Covid-19, should you be out and about shopping and hanging out around other people? Getting sick wasn't your fault either, but CHOOSING to expose other people to Covid-19 would be YOUR choice.
Does that put it in context for you. Right now your internet is SICK. It means you will drop out of the games more frequently. Is it your fault the weather is bad? No. Is it your fault for insisting on playing WHILE your internet is bad? YES. You and I have the same problem right now; the difference is that I am choosing to do things that will not screw over four other Players if my internet drops. I understand you completely. There is no gray area here.
8 -
These are just internet trolls. Please ignore them. Some people love to talk smack on the internet. You asked a question and is getting attacked for it because people don't know how to sympathise anymore. I understand both ends of this debate but some only see things their way and don't know how to see things from someone else point of view. Don't let it get you down.
1 -
Nothing does prevent you for insisting on playing (however rude and foolish it may be). You will simply have to accept that you can and WILL be penalized every time you disconnect and screw up a match. The choice is yours. They aren't going to turn of the penalties for you.
8 -
And, why so mad? You don't have to be hostile. For all you know this could be a kid.
0 -
It's sad that you take this thread seriously. OP is complaining about getting a DC penalty when playing during bad weather. BHVR is not responsible for the weather in your area. It's not BHVR's fault you dc'ed because of the weather. If we turned off the DC penalty every single time someone around the world had bad weather then there wouldn't be a dc penalty at all. This entire thread is a joke and I was pointing that out by stating the obvious.
6 -
I understand your point. I just don't like the fact that someone thinks that I'm the reason for ruining some other's lives. if I randomly disconnect in a match regardless of me not knowing there is a situation, is that my fault?
0 -
Omg yes you're absolutely right! Those sick killers definitely didn't enjoy seeing people pulling the plug at all after they nodded you goodbye on the hook!
And those survivors you're teaming up with love seeing their teammates quit! The pettier the reason the better!! We all know it's those killers fault in the end.
4 -
You may not control the weather, but you control wether you play an online game or not with an unstable internet connection.
So yeah, if you play with a connection that you are aware is faulty you should accept the risk of disconnecting and getting penalized for it instead of demanding for something to be changed in the game because at the moment is inconveniencing you.
11 -
Thank you for understanding what we meant I don't intend to make others feel upset because of an uncontrollable situation.
1 -
Sweety I was just commenting to someone else. Seriously? Please. This don't pay my bills. Have a nice day.

I'm not mad; I'm precise. I pride myself on being direct and to the point. There is no way to candy coat this issue. Insisting on playing when you have unreliable internet is rude to all the other people you inconvenience. There are literally thousands of other games which are played solo, i.e. against Bots. Play one of those until your internet improves. And for the record, I don't care if the OP is a kid or an adult, good manners and good sportsmanship should start early.
More to the point, I'm being honest and pragmatic about one key thing. The disconnect penalties aren't going anywhere. Any energy and angst spent posting about them is at best venting, and at worst a waste of your time. The sooner one comes to accept that is just how things are the sooner one can move forward with options that actually matter. I want to go back to that "mad" thing, because what I actually am is "disgusted" and "amazed" that we have so many people today who care so little about others in relation to their own immediate gratification.
10 -
I would rather not go back to those times when dc'ing was a lot more common. Especially as a solo surv.
4 -
OK
0 -
If you randomly disconnect once, that happens. If it happens twice, you know you have an issue and should at that point be taking steps to correct it. If you continue joining matches when you know it is going to keep happening, that is NO LONGER random. That is a pattern and you are choosing to continue it. Do you see the difference?
Everyone, myself included, gets dumped from time to time. As I stated at the start, I also live in an area that REGULARLY is covered with snow and has unreliable internet even when there ISN'T a crazy emergency. Whenever the problem rears its ugly head, I sigh and find other things to do. Right now, I'm talking to you. Let me be clear, nobody is going to fault you for the odd random, spread out drops. But if they start happening a lot and frequently, you are then making a choice. That is why the penalties start small and then get BIGGER.
3 -
Friend, you’re the only one in this thread really coming off as mad or hostile from the moment you pinned the DC penalty being created on “it was made for killers to camp and tunnel”
Everything you’ve said since has reeked of immature, illogical nonsense lol
5 -
This is a totally different concept and this situation came out of the blue. HOWEVER, I do understand the covid thing but this is different.
0 -
yeah i get it.
1 -
Every time you disconect from a match you ruin the game for 4 people, if you are having internet issues on your end you shouldnt be playing cooperative multiplayer games. Its not fair for you? maybe not, its fair for the people who get grouped with you and get their match ruined? not in the slightest.
Lets say you have an awful work schedule and you have to work long shifts a lot of consecutive days, you have only 1 hour to play videogames per day, imagine you decide to play DBD and then get paired with people with awful connections straight for that hour, congratulations, you just ruined the only free time that person has because you insist on playing a game without proper tools (either a bad PC or a bad conection) and before someone says "but... but that doesnt happen, nobody has that awful work schedule", it does, its me on my "on duty" schedule where I work 26 days in a 29 days period, usually for 12 or even 16 hours so please, if your connection is having trouble play offline or cooperative games where it doesnt matter if you drop, think about the other people who have to play with you and how your dcs affects them.
7 -
does it affect their lives though?
1 -
Does it affect your life if you stop playing when your internet is not working?.
6 -
OK buddy
0 -
No. this is over. I simply asked a question and this went way out of hand.
0 -
Smh
1 -
ill just stop playing .
1 -
I can see your frustration but when there was no dc penalty survivors would dc left and right. Then your team is left in a bad spot and the killer is forced to play nice or be called a try hard. Most if not all games have a dc penalty these days. So its better to have your internet check or call your isp.
2 -
I would argue that it is irrelevant why you are disconnecting. You are still ruining the experience of other players.
4 -
Hey, I'm just popping in to say to please remain civil and respectful. Please avoid attacking each other - some people might feel different about thing, including the DC penalty.
2 -
The DC Penalty should just flatout not exist. This game is way to inconsistent and buggy for it to exist.
