pyramid head caged skill check glitch??

I'm not exactly sure what caused this or if anyone else has experienced it, but I was just in the middle of a game on Xbox One, got caged by Pyramid Head, and then you know how it gives you skill checks to slow ur death like a struggle phase... well I was doing my skill check inputs and it wasn't registering them at all.
It was acting like I hadn't even pressed any button at all. Is this normal? I literally just died bc all the skill checks "failed" as if i wasn't inputting them. And it's not like those skill checks are even difficult whatsoever. idk what happened but ill admit im a bit upset that i just died for literally no reason.
