Should I start being selfish
Last one for tonight but I've had about three games so far where I've unhooked survivors safe, healed survivors safe, took hits, finished gens with and without resilience, took chase for at least two gens and yes I said only two gens I'm still fairly new to the game and I know how killers feel about gen rushing so I've been doing totems, opened both gates at end game to help out injured survivors I mean anything you can name I've done and I find myself getting hooked one time and getting left behind and finding out I had about thirty something odd points while my teammates had less then twenty should I start being selfish when the exit gates open and just leave or should I be more patience?

Your survival is up to you. Your team mates may be crucial to reaching a mutual goal or they could be hook fodder.
This is horror. If you're not getting out on your own terms you're dying on theirs.
8 -
That's up to you and how you like to play. Basically your team is cannon fodder towards your own survival. But if they did their part i generally try to save them. That said, if it's end game or the killer has Noed I'm probably going to bounce unless I find the totem fast.
Short answer, yes. Long answer, no with a but.

I've started leaving first chance I get. Anytime I've spent match saving/healing others and completing multiple gens I get left at the end, or sooner if they have a key. Other day I saved everyone on the team atleast once and completed 3 gens when I was hooked just as last gen completed I watched them open the exit gate and teabag the killer until they chased the 3 of them out. Not one made an attempt to rescue even though killer wasn't camping, was no NOED and they were all full health.
Only time I stick around now is if when I had been hooked earlier I was saved before second state and my teammates worked as a team during the match with heals, saves and gens because those are the ones that would've stayed for me if roles were reversed.

play however you want, being empathetic or selfish is all up to you
2 -
After getting left behind so many times, my attitude toward saving survivors in general is don't bother risking it when the gates are open, unless they did me right earlier. I will definitely just leave if one of the other survivors opens the gate early without reason and triggers end game.
It just feels bad when you get hooked and watch the other three survivors in the open exit just waiting to get chased out.

Right, they had plenty of time to reposition themselves and they just waited for the killer and left LOL

If you think that's something wait until my next story

Hook fodder I love it

I only really stay behind if its to help a survivor that had helped me before, or in general if its been an okay game, I haven't been hooked and I know that I can take a hit for someone whose on their way/ help the group out. There are occasionally times where I pay past altruism forward by going for an incredibly risky save, and most of the time its worked out in my favor- but in general? Be selfish! Embrace that inner independence. If they aren't doing anything for you, you shouldn't feel obligated to do anything for them. Sometimes altruism can work out, but sometimes you just wanna get out.

selfish is the only way to play solo since just about everybody else is whether it's a three man or three other solos. farmt hem like they were gonna farm you then go for the hatch. it's the only way to play any more if you still have the fortitude to even play this more than amatch or two in a day or evenw eek's time. I might try a way to be dead or the evil dead games, but it's been months since I've been able to stomach this skidmarkshow for more than 2 or 3 matches. If it ain't the stupid bugs every other patch it's the stupid or selfish teammates or spiteful killers dumping their chid from their last games on me. It's been a long ass time since this game has been remotely fun, the forums are more fun than the game and it's been that way for a long time. but that's how most stuff is these days. I should stop buying thigns and just wait to chid on them to amuse myself instead lmfao.

I'm probably going to bounce, I love this community

Yeah you're right about alot of things you said but alot of things i couldn't understand i wish you would've proof read alot of the stuff you said and it does seem like killers do be mad if you study their play style they always hit you when you're on the hook I'm like I can't feel that in real life are you mad or no

I feel kinda mixed honestly. On the one hand I try to be team oriented and I think that is really much better for the health of the game but on the other I have been screwed over much more times than helped honestly in solos. I still try to help my team as best I can partially because even if they don't return the favor or I get killed for unnecessarily sticking my neck out for my team then I learn to get better at the game.

Gen rushing and doing only gens are not the same thing, though I guess it's a pretty fine line in most people's minds. If you don't currently have any other objectives and don't mind risking certain Hexes (you can't complain about NOED and ignore totems at the same time though), then just hop on a Generator.
What else are you supposed to do? Just twiddle your thumbs? It's the Killers job to pressure the map and it's not your fault that the developers screwed over a few of the Killers by not giving them any map pressure.
0 -
honestly its up to you if you want to stay behind and help or just leave. Don't follow the rules of "No man left behind" you'll just end up losing your escape and giving the killer more points.
0 -
I try to save all my teammates but you don't have to so just leave.
Also don't be too hard on your self two gens is pretty good if you have crappy teammates also just ignore those killer players gen rushing isn't a thing its what your supposed to do as a survivor to win so it isn't the survivors' fault its the developers fault for making the survivor role like that. Try brining kindred too it might get teammates to save you off the hook at least a little bit more.
0 -
Trust me I have kindred, I think kindred is a very important perk to have, it's just these teammates are unbearable, the way teammates play I can see why killers get upset, survivors are so obsessed with doing gens it's like, let's all reset, try to heal each other up, and get more blood points for doing so, that's why killers proxy camp because survivors are so eager to rush gens, I'm to a point where the end game for me is maximum points as possible, getting out is just a bonus, plus getting chased or hiding from the killer is like a fun game of hide and seek
1 -
Right, the fact that you said you've been screwed over more then you been helped is pitiful, solo que needs to have more, I think if they give random survivors the option to communicate though their would be alot of bullying going on
1 -
Just play how you want to play without expecting others to behave certain way. Works for me. If I help out a teammate I don't expect from them to return the favour, I do it because I feel like it.

Solo queue has 2 modes, before there is only 1 gen left and after, before its pretty much a team game and everyone odds are higher if you are altruistic, when there is only 1 gen left its everyone for themselves and altruism can get you killed a lot of times.
It sucks but your odds of surviving increase A LOT if you become selfish and a coward once there is only 1 gen left, like working on a gen as 3, getting Spine Chill and getting out the first (bonus points if you use Sprint Burst and go hide without leaving scratch marks), not opening the doors until you have confirmation the Killer is distracted elsewhere (usually after someone else gets hit) etc.

Yeah its very unfortunate.it really shouldn't be that way but it kinda just is. I also like to play fully expecting to not get help but be surprised if I get helped and plan to help others. It helps me be better and make smarter choices in the game.
I will be selfish though if a teammate blatantly screwed me over and didnt help me when they could have like another play is being attacked while I'm hooked and the player is next to me but never unhooks me. Then I dont have any desire to help them if they actively abandon me

Honestly, I have these internal debates all the time. I like being altruistic and helping my team. As keeping the team alive benefits me in the end. But I have plenty of games where I’m left to struggle for no reason, or that person I constantly saved and healed just runs straight out of the exit gate when I’m on my first hook without even attempting to get me. It does make me want to say ‘screw the team’ but then I also go back to square one and end up being altruistic.
I think it’s good not letting some bad experiences completely change the way you play. Because I also encounter a lot of teammates that go out of their way to help.
9/10 I can be the only person that died in the match and I’m still at the top of the scoreboard at the end of the match, because I got a lot of saves and heals, did generators, totems and also put up strong chases. So although my team screwed me over in the end, I technically get the last laugh.
#TeamAltruism

Yeah you're right, I find myself 9/10 times being on top of the leader board as well, so really at this point getting the maximum amount of points i can is just as satisfying as making it out to me ,making it out is just a bonus for me now lol
0 -
That’s how I play anyway. Obviously I’d like to escape. But it’s the BP that I want. So if I die but still get a lot of BP, that’s a win in my eyes. I see so many people escape and they’re at the bottom of the scoreboard as they just did nothing all game and waited for the hatch.

Wow, I'm glad you said that I had a survivor that kept acting like he was going to unhook me then letting me struggle, unhook me then letting me struggle. I guess he thought it was funny so when it was my turn and i had to unhook him, i act like I was going to unhook him then let him struggle, unhook then let him struggle. I walked away and said you know what let me unhook this guy I guess he got upset and killed himself lol
0 -
Wow we should play together your gameplay is similar to mine
0 -
Yeah I feel you keep the game simple

Selfish players don't win many trophys in sports. It should always be about the team. That said you are a part of the team so keeping yourself safe is just as important but i think all teams benefits on a non selfish attitude.
2 -
Trust me more times then not I'm always the last survivor alive with the most blood points. I try to take hits and chases and most times I get away or the killer tunnels and even when I get caught I run sprint burst so I can get out of there when I get unhooked and if the killer comes back. I honestly don't see why everybody doesn't run sprint burst, it seems like a very good perk to have at the beginning of a chase or after you get of the hook and so many people stay around the area they've been unhooked from to heal and I'm like the killer can hear you, if you don't have iron will which most survivors don't. I also don't have iron will but with the little experience I do have I know how to counter some things in the game like grunts of pain. I know it can be lessened by healing next to a popped gen. I learned that a long time ago but I see alot survivors haven't and most get caught trying to hide and heal

Right, I also don't understand why killers like to slug and end the game early, I'm like all this for like 15,000 for the killer and the survivors with 10,000 or less, with a 2 to 5 minute wait for a game that was a waste of time, even some killers take this game way to serious. I thought it was about leveling up and I found a way to level up my survivors without playing with the same survivor with only worn out items, add- ons, or offerings to play with and now and I'm even more excited to play the game and try out new characters. I haven't even tried the killers yet and I want to make sure I know the maps really well before I dive into that adventure, now if the devs can do their part so we can have a really exciting game. I would start to put more money into

I mean I'd say no but my friend tells me off for being too nice when I use for the people on someone for no reason (I just think its fun and it helps people out)

But every team has its STAR, the player that gets the best contract, the best marketing offers, the awards, the reconigtion and all that. I bet we all know who Michael Jordan was in the Bulls and who Messi is in Barcelona but who are/were the people who played/plays with them?.
Like I said in the other post in this thread, Solo is a team game until a certain point (usually when there is only 1 gen left) then it becomes Solo because if everyone is alive the Killer will try to secure any hook he gets and the first that goes down has a lot of chances of being proxy camped and those saves end with a trade, if you go for the save odds are you are going to get hanged next, it sucks but its how this specific game works (and no, this doesnt apply to real life, in real life there isnt a Killer following us trying to hook us).

Remember...
This is on the store page of Dead by Daylight on Steam. Play how you want, my fella!
1 -
LOL, couldn't have said that better myself and you're right that's exactly how most games go on endgame
0 -
I will tell you how i go about it. If i see a survivor hide, run by and alert every crow and their brothers or make noise by jumping for no reason early on? They are dead to me. I'll actually do a gen right next to their hanging body. They are just anchors that will drag me down if i rescue them. Now if i see people trying to complete objectives and trying to help others? I'll gladly die for them any time.

This post was hilarious holy s*it, this game is corrupting people's minds, is it that serious I'm pretty sure a person who plays like that doesn't play often or is bad at the game. I don't think it warrants that type of behavior, unless a person is purposely sand bagging me or faking like he's going to get me off the hook so I miss my action button, then yeah I won't be so quick to help that survivor, but yeah calm down buddy
0 -
Leave if you want.
I don't leave because I stopped playing to "win" a long time ago. There's fun to be had trying to rescue everyone to the last minute. Some of the most fun and hectic points of a game happen in endgame when you try to rescue the last guy from the killer. Succeed or die it's fun.
0 -
Right, I feel the same way winning isn't as important as it use to be, I was terrified of the killer when I first started playing and hated chases, now I enjoy them
0 -
Yeah id much rather not have a teammate than a teammate who i can't trust to help. I feel like the team functions a lot better if you have 3 trustworthy players versus 3 trustworthy and one troll.
If someone just isnt very good im willing to take more risks for though
0 -
LOL, yeah you're right this game almost reminds me of real life, it's always that one
0 -
Arent you the same guy that made a thread yesterday saying you were hiding at 4 gens instead of doing anything productive when your team mate was being chased? I feel like you're already playing in a selfish fashion if you ask me
0 -
Something like that I said two survivors were dead their was me and one other survivor that I unhooked and also healed, now if anybody can tell me how to do 4 gens with two survivors me being one of them I'll love to hear it, because I hear a lot of people complaining but I haven't heard much feedback so far, know alot of people say you should play selfish at endgame if you're about to make it out, but i unhooked a teammate and healed the same teammate what else was i suppose to do because I'm missing something?
0 -
There is a level of team play in this game that is extremely advantageous, but don't fall for the idea that this is a team game. It's not. In the end your survival and your escape as a survivor is up to you. The bottom line is if this was a true team game the only winning scenario would be for the whole team to escape.
0 -
I hope all survivors don't share you're view and I guess you don't ever run BT or other altruism perks because it's not a personal benefit.
I am a red rank player and enjoy going back for players on hook at EGC. I don't like seeing players run out of the exits as soon as possible. Denying a camping killer their last kill is one of the best challenges in the game.
2 -
At this particular moment of time...probably. Also run Kindred if you don't already, you'll find it invaluable
0 -
I definitely run kindred, but you find kindred invaluable
0 -
Yeah I'm not going to lie I want that kind of confidence I'm fairly new so I don't have that type of courage yet but I like getting in chases now though
