Kills
I mean the roles are KILLER vs survivor

Kills
I hate that hooks are outside of your control and they effect your emblems more than kills. I've had a number of games I'm on the other side of the map after I hook a survivor and the team never saves the hooked survivor. I feel bad for the survivor honestly lol
From a scoring standpoint hooks are objectively more important since they score you more than kills (which is dumb imo). But kills are more important to me personally since they are both more interesting and more in my control

I play for pips more hooks give me more pips

Hooks, I don't play seriously and prefer to stay in low ranks. Would rather hook everyone twice than have everyone killed. I can see why most killers prefer kills to hooks though.

I play for kills, don't really care how long the match lasts

Hooks
I said in a thread that got deleted (I think) that I think hooks could be more fun for both sides than straight up kills. But I don't think the game is ready for that yet.
When I played killer I was going for hooks but sometimes It is a real struggle and killing someone faster would probably be more efficient. So I understand when people go for kills sometimes. Other times I don't understand since it ends the game too fast. Same goes for doing gens very fast against killers who cant pressure that well. Unfun games imo.

well 12 hooks is a 4k so win win on both sides.
The whole hooks/kill debate is getting muddled up here the main issue is the mentality of going kills over hooks it leads to increase camping, slugging etc as killers will be more focused on getting the kills than hooking a survivor 3 times which can lead to very boring gameplay just think of all the games where you were slugged at 5 gens was that fun?
while the mentaility of hooks over kills means less camping, slugging etc as the killers are mobile doing more chases and having more interaction on either sides. That sounds more fun to me and more rewarding when i get all 4 survivors or i was able to escape against those type of killer playstyle.
In the end of the day what we are debating here is would you prefer killers to just secure kill which means you are fine with the camping slugging etc as they secure kills or would you like killers to get mutiple hooks which means more chases more interactions with either side and more of a test of mental mindgames on either side.

Kills
My own playstyle, win-condition, and enjoyment vary from game to game. Sometimes I consider a win 4 stacks of BBQ; sometimes a win if I get my challenge done to progress in the rift. Other times it's to pip.
Regardless of the specifics, however, whether I want to 4k or not, I don't camp and try not to tunnel anyone. I don't think 12 hooks is a win condition for me personally, but I understand that one of the reasons it's being stated and has an emphasis on it is to help promote better gameplay. For me, it's a mixture of both 12 hooks and 4ks. Getting a 3k or 4k due to face camping is not equivalent to getting a 3k or 4k with 8 hooks or more, with chases and what not.
Statistically, one may say a 3k or 4k is a 3k or 4k regardless of how it was achieved. But I don't personally play like that. And for which is more important.... both. Everyone's play style is different in one way or another. (Sorry that this is a little all over the place)

Hooks
Hooks are more fun to play for in my opinion. I will slug when it's the right play but I almost never slug for the 4k, for example, because I don't really treat a 3k + hatch as any different than a 4k when evaluating how I played. I also usually won't tunnel, even if it's easy and the correct play, because that's less fun to play against and feels a bit unsporting when I have other options (not knocking those who tunnel when they can; this is just how I feel about it). Splitting up hooks certainly makes it less likely for me to 4k, but it doesn't necessarily make getting a lot of hooks less likely.
At the end of the day I just want to play well and I'm not really focusing on hooks or kills. I'm more concerned with mindgaming well, making chases short, and building pressure. Still, I think hooks are a better reflection of playing well than kills. If you get a 10-hook 2k, for example, you probably played pretty well and were probably just a few different decisions away from a 4k. If you get a 2-hook 2k, for example, you probably got dominated and just happened to salvage something in the endgame collapse with NOED, or something.

I prefer killing but I do try to get as many hooks as possible but it doesn't hurt if I get like 8 hooks instead of 12 because survivors either killed themselves or went to second state or whatever.

Hooks
Unless the survivors are being unpleasant, I go for 12-hook trials. Getting kills can be so very easily cheesed and it doesn't feel right. That's not to say I overextended trials to the point of babysitting survivors, but nor do I facecamp 2 people in basement.

i vote for hooks because i need more than kills to meet all my objectives as killer. i pride myself on getting better at all parts of the game, so to minimize the killer's role in dbd to simply kill all 4 as fast as possible doesn't help me achieve my goal. Sometimes there are tome challenges that require a 4k, so yeah, maybe instead of waiting for the match i perform the best in, I bring a mori or devour or some build i know boosts my chances. but that's for only that particular challenge - my normal game play is to get as many hooks as possible because that's one of the most important ways to ensure you pip and earn bloodpoints. It bothers me a lot when survivors self sacrifice in this sense because they take away my bloodpoints and my experience. i need to win chases, to find everyone, and to down and hook them asap - not end the game in 2 minutes because i destroyed all 4 survivors and sent them to the entity - that's not a win to me in this game. that kind of behavior actually completely contradicts the purpose of a "trial" imo. when i didn't play killer as much or when i was working on trophies, a lot of times i would be matched with survivor teams who were no where near my skill level - so i did a dance of pressure and sit back so that i could earn as much from the trial as possible - i mean think about - that's an easy 32k base bps and double pip if you play it right - and it's not by killing all 4 immediately :/

Kills
Kills, because the number of hooks I get isn't something I can control. I don't use mori perks or offerings, but I can't stop someone from suiciding on hook or someone leaving their allies on the hook until they die. It's kind of frustrating that a portion of our scoring isn't based on how well we performed but rather on whether or not the other team were good enough sports to let us do our objectives.

This can be a little misleading of a poll. I go for kills, but the game shouldn’t be balanced around kills. IE were lumping this as a single topic when it’s actually two. Balancing around hooks would be a lot more balanced and encourage healthier game play regardless of what my personal goal is.

I would rather be referred to as a Hooker though.

Hookers vs Survivors would be interesting though

Hooks
Kills don't get you 32k like hooks do.

I try to hook people as much as possible on the path to kills, but a 6-hook 2-kill feels better than an 8-hook 0-kill.

I get it that hooks are healthier for the game but getting kills is more satisfactory. I wouldn't feel happy about my performance if I get 8 hooks an no one dies.

They're Killers not Hookers.
Yes this comment was written with the joke in mind.

Hooks
I go for hooks more because for example it takes a lot more skill to get 8 hooks and no kills over getting 4 hooks and 1 hooking everyone to get a 4K.
Besides as the devs have said the game is balanced around getting an average 2K so if you focus on getting a 4K every match you're more likely to get upset and frustrated when this doesn't happen. Besides you can't expect to win every match as killer, otherwise no one would play survivor if they had no hope of escaping every match.
