A response to those against adding LGBTQIA+
Yo, Community.
Those opposed to this representation in this game, geez, there are better, more pressing things to be obsessing on.
Do you know how large a part of this player base is LGBTIQ+? I guarantee that every single time you log into play this game, you are regularly being matched with other players from the LQBTIQ+ community. In some cases, probably almost every single match.
You’re in denial otherwise if this is not accepted.
ONE character providing representation of the LQBTIQ+ community from a roster of DOZENS doesn’t break the game, doesn’t change the rules, and isn’t going to corrupt you with its gay conversion laser beams through your screen.
Chill.
Or do you need to come out of the closet too?

I'm sorry but if there's no gay conversion lazer beams I'm going to become a homophobe this is not what I signed up for dammit!

Pew pew pew (rainbows flood out of television set)

No need for beams, i can do that. Come see me at my office.
21 -
Jokes on you I'm already gay.
but sure name your time

:O

I can understand both sides.
Yes, representation is extremely important and the media is the best place to show it.
However, you could argue that dbd is a game all about working cooperatively and trying to survive a merciless killer, and therefore, representation isn't a top priority.
47 -
Or... to work cooperatively, differences need to be put aside.
The attitude should be “I know, and it doesn’t matter. We have a goal to work towards.”
35 -
What
14 -
As someone who is gay I would love representation in this game. It doesn't seem to be a detriment to the game. But what I'm concerned about is it being forced and it being the only redeemable thing about the character. They shouldn't just make the character LGBTQIA just because. It should be woven in the story to make them a even better character and their lore.
Doing that shows great writing and better represents the community.
All In all they should do it for the story just as much as representation. As it makes them actual complex characters and not one dimensional expendable characters.
17 -
I know I mentioned it on the other thread but let me know if I am totally off base on what I said by the way (or really anything moving forward).

I agree that it should be something that’s just casually put into the rest of their lore. The trick is to not make it seem flippant either.
9 -
I've disagreed with you on some issues but because of ######### like this post I can't help but like you @TheClownIsKing lol
I often play under the name "Hex: Butt Stuff" and the amount of flirting and gay comraderie in the pre game lobby is fantastic XD

BuT iTs FoRcEd!!!!!! They need to reread the original character lore, this game had barebone lore back in the days, look what they are doing with the tomes now, Lore on Lore on Lore. Look at the twins story in game then look at Wraith 2 paragraph story he had.
This is evolution, this game is expending. Plus seriously if they go for a Trans character that’s great because how many big video game lol DbD do you know that have trans character? I don’t. I hope they sorry is on point and the character is beautifully written tho that way some people can see themselves and look up to it.
P.S go reread Phillip story in the tomes, ######### made me cry. Can’t call him bing bong man anymore.

I regularly see player names starting with Hex: and then some sort of funny innuendo.
They’re usually very funny. They’re also usually very good players. Some names though are borderline distasteful.
5 -
Not sure what one has to do with the other, or how including LGBTQ+ representation would allegedly detract from working cooperatively.
8 -
Don’t mind me, just upvoting every positive post in this thread.
usually such Threads turn into negativity in the first few posts..sadly..
27 -
Yes but gay rainbow conversion beams are keeping it happy.
11 -
I remember when the monster hunter movie came out, people were calling it "Too woke" and "Forced woman's rights propaganda" because the female character swings big heavy daggers around and such. (Along with all the male monster hunters too whose are even bigger)
It's like....HAVE YOU PLAYED THE GAME? THEY ALL DO THAT. EVERYONE DOES.
It's always something with folks.
15 -
What? Such hatred. I want one perk that lets me shoot rainbows out my mouth!
11 -
Oh I’m waiting for the trolls.
Although I’ve kind of trapped them with my implication that if this is a big deal to them, they’re probably hiding in the closet themselves.
History, and modern psychology/psychology keeps proving that time and time again: the biggest, most vocal homophobes are just repressing it within themselves.
11 -
A killer that shoots rainbows from their mouth would be pretty cool. MAKE IT HAPPEN BHVR.
4 -
You're such a kind person, I respect all the support and positivity you try to bring!
*Hugs* 😊
7 -
Personally, I don't care what they do. If they are LGBT+, cool. If they are not, that's fine. It's just that, if this person isn't LGBT+, then I hope that the forums don't turn into people bitching about it for a week straight.
6 -
The last of us part 2 had a trans character

Unless you're going to claim representation somehow makes it so that you'll no longer have to survive a merciless killer in DBD, that argument is fundamentally flawed.
5 -
The issue I have is that nobody has been complaining about Nurse having a husband, and all the other back stories that have straight relationships, but when it comes to anything "LGBTQIA+" it's always "DBD isn't the place for this etc".
23 -
That’s tru, I don’t have a PS unfortunately so I’m not familiar with the last of us.
1 -
Also I would suggest instead of using LGBTQIA+ we should start using the term GRSM community. GRSM stands for gender romantic sexual minority. It's more inclusive and easier to say.

I dont really care about LGBTI+ as long as it doesnt feel forced and mainly because its a sign of bad writting.
A prime example of this is The Wire TV series, where 2 main characters and a secondary are homosexual and you never feel it forced, they have a lot of irks on their personality that define them, they are not token LGBTI+ characters for the sake of it, they have their morals, principles, life goals, objectives, way of life and opinions like everyone else also they happen to be homosexual (they also have to deal with discrimination so its not a happy flower road for them).
On the other hand there are some games/series where the LGBTI+ happen to have their sexuality as their only defining characteristic and the story around them seem to always revolve about that, its like they dont have anything else going for them except that, thats what I call forcing it.
As a sidenote, I prefered the almost non existant lore because you could pretty much asign whoever you wanted wathever you wanted except licensed characters and a few characters (Julie and Frank being a couple and Nurse being married though even these could be freely assigned too), I always pictured Claudette as an asexual and Dwight as gay, "why?" you may ask, my answer has always been "why not?".
11 -
Very few people are against LGBTQ representation in this game. Sure there unfortunately is them type of people who don't like the concept of a gay/trans/etc character and I do not support what they say.
We just don't want an entire characters personality to be based ENTIRELY on them being LGBTQ. Sure, keep it as a piece of side information or help it develop into character traits (EG: Their family wasn't accepting, so they grew up without support, making them see the world in a different way).
I'm not against adding a LGBTQ character in, hell, all characters in the game could be gay and I wouldn't care. I just don't want a characters "thing" to be only them being gay/trans/etc and nothing else. The only reason I'm saying this is because of how they absolutely screwed up nurses tome entries, so I've kinda lost hope that they'll pull this off correctly.
9 -
This exactly!!
13 -
I just wouldn't want the game to start being like "omg this killer just camped/tunneled/moried me because of the character im playing" its frustrating enough getting hateful messages/end game chat but now you have to be careful who you can hook? Also unlike the west alot of other countries might have different views on this topic which I won't get into. All in all I could honestly care less if they do or don't right? I just play the game how I want and as long as the perks are good and no bugs.
3 -
Nothing against the LGBT community, I just hope those images of the female we saw isn’t the killer, all for it being the survivor, but killer? Nah seems way too out of place base off what we have seen. With the LGBT thing, I don’t care about the sexuality of a character, honestly it really shouldn’t matter, the only way it would effect me is if it visually represents the killer, just include it in the killers lore but don’t make it their entire personality
4 -
I am not exactly sure what constitutes a LGBTQIA+ character, other than the lore. If you want a character to have a sentence or two about how a man was married to another man before XYZ happened, then I could care less.
Representation is important but I doubt the majority of players ever look at the lore specifically. The variety of comsetics allow you to turn any character into whatever you want visually; the rest is up to your imagination IMO.
7 -
Knowing that representation exists is just as important. I've played plenty of mediocre games where player sexuality served no purpose to gameplay or actual plot just because I knew the option was there to me. It's like a lesbian friend of mine said the other day "Why don't they put more lesbians on tv? We lesbians will watch anything with lesbians in it."
4 -
I really couldn't care less about someone's sexuality or religion, as long as it's not shoved in my face. And by that I mean as long as it doesn't affect my gameplay or experience in negative way.
5 -
This thread is actually going smoothly what is happening??
9 -
People disagree with me so they have mush for brains? Very respectful, great way to make your argument. Maybe some people don't hold the same values as you? A lot of people think pandering is disrespectful and disingenuous and takes away from someones character, but I guess they just have mush for brains right? Since they disagree with you and all.
3 -
A better question would be:
Why did you need to make this thread when there already are threads on this topic?
3 -
Yes. Mush for brains.
Modern psychology/psychiatry proves time and time again that those that obsess over opposing this stuff, thinking about it constantly, are just repressing themselves, and it results in destructive behaviour towards others and themselves.
They need proper help, not obsessing over stuff like this. Otherwise their brains will continue to turn to “mush”, and lead to further harmful behaviour and harmful thinking.
11 -
Also always remember it’s only bad to pander if it’s regarding LGBTQ+.
that argument is never ever used against the inclusion of other topics.
10 -
No, please read carefully :) you're twisting my words into your narrative
0 -
But it's not disrespectful or disingenuous to pander towards:
- fans of Halloween
- fans of Leatherface
- fans of Saw
- fans of ANOES
- fans of Ash vs Evil Dead
- fans of Ghostface
- fans of Stranger Things
- fans of Silent Hill
Nor is it an issue when the straight relationships are mentioned.
It's always TheGays:tm: that bring up the issues. We love that bestie.
17 -
It wouldn't and maybe I worded it in the wrong way, but that's not how I meant it.
My point was, although representation is necessary, in a game like dbd, it's not exactly a top priority, as your top priority is trying to survive a merciless killer. I added cooperation into my original comment because that's how I view the survivors working together.

Applause
7 -
Which is why it will likely be mentioned in lore, and nothing more.
We’re not about to get a survivor traversing the map in leather gear, riding a Mardi Gras Pride Parade Float
7 -
You never know with the community
1 -
I am actually concerned it will. I'm completely on board for it. I just don't want that to be the only part of a charactor they focus on.
1 -
I am personally am not gay, I'm straight. But I understand the reason, I just don't want to nag on me
