I thought of a way to change Freddy to promote survivors to use the available counterplay he has.

Believe it or not, Freddy has counterplay by waking up, and a survivor who constantly stays awake is really annoying for him to deal with as an M1 killer. Skill checks are pretty common, and if you are about to fall asleep you can try to position yourself in the middle of the map so that the clock spawns a shorter distance from you.

However, the main issue is that Freddy can instantly put you back to sleep after smacking you, so a lot of survivors never bother waking themselves up as it feels enevitable you will fall asleep, and pointless to try to stay awake.

I propose a few changes to how falling asleep works.

  1. At base, the time to fall asleep is 60 seconds. this can be be modified by various actions in the trial.
  2. Being woken up by another survivor increases the time to fall asleep by 15 seconds.
  3. Failed skillchecks increases the time to fall asleep by 30 seconds. The skillcheck penalty is increased.
  4. Clocks increase the time to fall asleep by 30 seconds (unchanged).
  5. Being injured by Freddy reduces the time to fall asleep by 60 seconds.

So say you fail a skill check on a gen, and Freddy teleports there and hits you. You will now no longer instantly go back to sleep, because failing the skillcheck will wake you up and adds 30 seconds to your sleep timer, for a total of 90 seconds. Freddy hitting you will reduce the timer by 60 seconds, reducing your timer to 30 seconds to fall asleep.

This means you are rewarded for taking the time to wake yourself up by giving you some breathing room in a chase. Freddy himself won't have his gameplay loop affected to much, and if survivors are taking the time to wake up then that means he is gaining time that isn't spent on generators.

So it is a meaningful choice to make. Do you want insurance for if freddy comes to your generator? or do you stay alseep to keep the pressure on Freddy to kick you off the gens?

Lemme know what you think, I'm just worried that Bhvr will just gut Freddy and chuck him back in the furnace, without trying to be creative to change him. I can think of a few buffs that wouldn't be to oppressive but make him more fun to play, but he can be overbearing due to the helplessness falling asleep makes you feel.

I really like these ideas. I also think his teleportation ability can be nerfed to not be able to be cancelled during its use. One of his purple addons make it so you can't cancel his teleporting ability, so that should be enough for reference.

Hell, maybe it could work with a token-based system, where you have 3 tokens or something and teleporting to a generator consumes a token.

I think they could tie into this idea I have with the timer, increasing the overall cooldown of teleporting, but massively decrease it for each sleeping survivor. Currently the difference in cooldown for Teleport doesn't vary much, regardless of how many are asleep. This would give survivors another reason to wake up, while rewarding Freddy for putting multiple people to sleep. Meaning there is engagement from both sides.

Getting annoyed that Freddy instantly teleports to Pop your gen every hook?

    WAKE UP.

I had completely forgotten about Red Paint Brush, perhaps his addons should get another pass. he basically has no good addons anyway.

I wasn't sure about how to change the clocks, as most people don't use them since the maps can be huge. I had an idea where its still only one clock that spawns, but it is random where it located and it will periodically rotate to another dresser if you don't use it. If it was changed to be any clock, then I would rather they remove the white aura, and perhaps make them ring tick louder so survivors can search for them. The idea the devs behind the clocks is to act as a passive slowdown objective while still giving a boon to survivors, but right now the reward doesn't feel worth it if Freddy can put you to sleep instantly.

Making Freddy unable to put you to sleep instantly would mean you could wake yourself up with a clock and then trade with Borrowed Time, against a camping Freddy, which is a massive complaint from many people that despise Freddy.

This is the only change Freddy needs. His problem is that he can easily keep survivors in the dream world
