The new killer and “Scaryness”

I think we can all agree, the new killer isnt very scary. However I dont feel like this is a super damning thing because if im being honest, the appeal of DBD was never the “fear” factor and I dont know about you guys, but DBD just isnt very scary to me.

Yeah sometimes it can be have like those moments, like when you get snuck up on by a no terror radius myers or a demogorgon just appears right around you because portals. Generally speaking I wouldnt say theres much about DBD thats super scary. Thats why I dont really mind this new killers aesthetic or im not bashing it for being not scary because ultimately that doesnt matter. Genuinely speaking, whats the last time you felt genuinely scared by dbd.

I just feel like this killer more or less opens opportunities for more killers. There are some killers people would write off as “not scary enough” but now we know that doesnt actually matter that much.

Ps this isnt to bash BHVR or anything, its impossible to make a game based on grinding it out and pvp be scary imo

    Agreed.

The only scary thing in this game is you getting jump scared by a killer/pallet stun.

He's just a different kind of scary and not your average monster like Demo or Blight.

And i would love to see those persons explaining to me how the visual design of killers like Pig,Ghostface or Legion is scary for them.

Eh, definitely not impossible. There is plenty that could be done to up the fear-factor if they wanted but, the game is 4 years old, so, that kind of drastic change isn't gonna happen.

As far as the new Killer goes, I'm not mad but I am disappointed. No, DbD isn't really a "scary" game, so not every killer needs to fit that bill but this new one doesn't even try. So many other great original ideas they could have gone with that get posted here every day. Oh well, it is what it is.

I think the Trickster's "scariness" comes not from his looks, but his demeanor. How smug, narcissistic, and downright deranged he is, comes forth in his animations, his bat twirling when he hits a survivor, his expressions and in the sounds he makes. He giggles, he hums, he's enjoying himself immensely. He's not unlike Ghostface, who's clearly in it for the fun of it as well. Is Ghostface scary? Not really. But if you use only a bit of your imagination in combination with the lore provided, Ghostface becomes one of the most unsettling killers in the game. Same goes for this guy, imo.

Trickster isn't scary he's more unsettling. His chase music, laughs and animations really make it obvious to the Survivors that he's having fun toying with them. He's a psychotic, sadistic, narcissist. Which is threatening in its own way

Honestly I feel like his design could work if his power actually reflected his apperance and character

It seems like so much work went into the backstory, only for him to be a dude who throws knives at people. Really? That's the best they could come up with for someone with such a backstory? It's underwhelming imo.

I hope I'm not out of line by saying this, but it feels like the power wasn't made for the character. I think people said the same about Blight when he came out too but I've since warmed up to him and really appreciate him, even if it's taken nearly three whole chapters for him to actually be in the state he should've been on launch.

I think its clear that he isn't scary, but it is also clear that in terms of DBD standards where people who looked "human" with a noteable exception (Legion) no longer look human (Adiris, Wraith, Hag).

Do I think he needs to have a monster-like head where he doesn't even look like himself? No. Do I think they should have played with darker themes around his music/face/overall aesthetic? Yes.

Like, at this point I have heard that he looks like a survivor rather than a killer. Because he does. It's nothing against whoever made the decision at the drawing table going "Oh yeah we should make a Kpop star type killer because that sounds scary". They clearly borrowed from the Joker who is a lot more menacing and brutal that this killer.
