The Ghostface's Reveal Mechanic Experiences

It's a topic I've mulled over many, many times playing survivor. And as I'm confident enough to say that I've played against a good amount of Ghostface's in a mulititude of situations, I'm wondering how others feel they've experienced his reveal mechanic.

The reveal of the Ghostface is halted for all other survivors if one is already revealing him(?)

  • This one's a weird one. I feel that whenever Ghostface is around multiple people who can see him and trying to reveal him. Only one person actually gets the audio feedback of the reveal atleast. I can be staring directly at him while someone else in the chase is and yet it will give me no feedback that I'm doing nothing. So maybe the mechanic is struggling with two people revealing and just lets one person do it.

If the Ghostface isn't facing you, it's almost as if the game doesn't recognise you are seeing the Ghostface. Does the reveal rely on seeing the mask?

  • This one is a more tentative idea. It's happened a few times against the killer but there are such obvious and offensive cases in which I am staring directly at the killer from only 10 metres away, just crouching down in short grass. And yet despite fulfilling the criteria to revealing him, the game will refuse to give feedback on revealing him. I definitely don't feel as confident in this theory but it's still quite possible in my mind.

Beyond that though, I'm wondering how other survivors have either seen these scenarios or perhaps other different types and how you think they tie into the weird nuances of the mechanic. Maybe even killers could share their whacky experiences with the Shroud power and how they are revealed by survivors. Here just for some interesting discussion on the power as I feel that it's never really been fully ironed out.

Personal experiences are its very broken. Even when he is fully visible. It makes him very unenjoyable to face.

I have definitely experienced it myself as survivor that I can reveal certain Ghostface's despite them ducking away behind obstacles. Though most times when I do actually reveal them from that position, it is by the end of the reveal time, which I then put down to the server's latency, favouring my reveal over the exact values of hiding behind the obstacle.

I do often find myself sighing when I'm against a Ghostface aswell, it's rather unfulfilling to play against him simply because of how unfair the stalks can be sometimes especially when revealing him could've been the difference between you running away a little longer over being downed immediately out of position.

    It seems very broken.

That said, I believe your character model must be within line of sight view of the killer to work.

In other words, its not the 3rd person camera but a combination of both.

You have to look in the direction of GF and have the survivor head (I believe) within LoS.

I can definitely see that being how it should work. But in terms of that second point I make, I can be about 90% sure that my model is always front-facing and directly pointed towards the Ghostface. And even at that point with every possible logical loose-end tied, it still won't let me reveal. It is really strange.

It's not even worth trying. You look at him for x seconds and he looks at you, a single blade of grass comes between you for a second and now your reveal is broken and restarted but he gets to keep his stalk progress. Congrats now in a direct staredown you don't have enough time to reveal him before he exposes you.
