What do you think of trappers trap escape mechanic?

When caught in trappers trap, you have a random chance to free yourself in 1 to 6 escape attempts. Do you think that this RNG trap escape is good or bad? (as opposed to a non-random trap escape mechanic, like a set number of escape attempts)

It's better than what he had before. Personally I always had the worst luck:

    • As a survivor, I was never lucky enough to free myself from a trap before the Trapper got me. Sometimes with 6+ attempts.
    • As the Trapper, survivors aaalways escaped on their first attempt. Always.

The current system feels a bit more fair for both sides, at least to me.

The new system is certainly more fair than the previous system. However, it still has the potential to make frustrating situations for both sides. I think it would be much better if the RNG element was removed altogether.

There is no place for luck in DBD. Everything should be skill based

Not a fan of getting out as quick as most survivors do, or the fact that it's no longer mitigated by the few survivors that would stay in for a while.

I agree. Something like, completing 5 difficult skill checks in a row to be able to free yourself? Or anything that doesn't involve RNG. I don't dislike the current mechanic but it's true that some frustrating moments can still happen.

the frantic desire to escape before The Trapper reaches you is just some good ol' fashioned slasher goodness.

Trapper pretty much got nerfed in the mid chapter when they made changes to the escape rate

It is pretty dumb honestly. I don't understand why the devs didn't just give trapper a fixed time for his bear traps when a survivor steps in it. That way, it is much more consistent.

I think they've said before that they want some kind of tension, as the trapper is walking up to you.

"Am I going to escape in time?"

But I don't see why the time needs to be random for that same tension. I've definitely had moments like that when a killer is coming at my generator with a pop ready, and generators have a set time to finish. I think the same level of tension could be achieved without all the depressing and frustrating randomness.

It's somewhat of a buff to Trapper but a nerf at the same time. He REALLY needs more stuff added to his base-kit to make him stronger, then I'll enjoy the RNG mechanic fully.

They just escape faster now. Unless I'm right next to them, they pretty much escape.

The nerf to Trapper was welcome, I hate being stuck in a trap :D I don´t think they will ever make him decent, we need some ez auto pilot wins after all with all the Spirits roaming around. The first 1-2 attempts don´t even matter unless the Trapper is already within like 10m of the survivor

i know its not supposed to be a first try escape but HOLY #########, 7 tries? i highly doubt that its 25%. i also heard they made it harder to escape in 4.5.0 so that just adds to the bs. the only time youll ever escape bear traps is if the trapper doesnt immediately go for you which is highly unlikely

I don't like that it is luck based. You should have a bar to fill within a few seconds and then free yourself. If the Trapper is near, he will catch you and if he is not, you escape. Right now, sometimes you free yourself on the first try, others it takes a while and the Trapper can get to you from almost the other side of the map.

The minimum attempts should not be as low as 1 and the maximum attempts should not be as high as 6. 3-4 is usually the sweet spot even if the Trapper is on the other half of the map so why not just fix it there, and if the killers are still struggling with it they can always use addons. As on survivors side, other people rescuing you would finally have a meaning.

I don't think it was supposed be a buff or a nerf, just a change to reduce randomness. It just really frustrates me that they would kind of reduce the randomness, but not remove it all together. It seems to show that they understand the frustration that the RNG causes on both sides, but at the same time won't fully commit to fixing it.
