Does breathing still exist in the game?
I remember back around...say all the way up to late 2018 when breathing was a thing. You could hear it twice as much with stridor and it was interesting hearing all the different breathing sounds they put in.
Years of audio changes later and aside from Meg I don't think I can hear any survivor breath at all. The chase music completely drowns it out along with footsteps on a number of different surfaces. My headset wasn't cheap btw.
So I'm wondering does anyone here still hear breathing during chase? how many surfaces do you clearly hear footsteps on?

Footsteps seem to be working fine but I agree that without Stridor anyone but Meg's creepy, rattling breaths are deathly silent.
Sometimes I can hear Adam, Claudette, and Jeff breathing but by that point I'm practically sitting on them.

Killer's problem.
Skip.

They nerfed the sounds that killer could hear gradually over the course of updates. If they have iron will unless they leave blood pools you are just not finding them honestly.

There is no oxygen in the Entity's realm so there's no need to breathe

Unless they’re running and I’m very close with spirit, I can hear the panting sound.
if they are standing still or crouching, nope. I haven’t heard it even once in my entire playtime.

Footsteps on Lery's are usually bugged the most often, but apart from that I haven't had any issues tracking footsteps on any surface after being blinded at a pallet etc. I have to drown out the music and concentrate on it but it's still possible with the exception of Blight. His chase music is so unbelievably loud that I can't hear ######### over it apart from injured sounds and notifications and such.

Not until you think about it.

I've noticed my survivor injured/breathing have been really off since last update. If I heal myself and immediately start moving I'll keep making crying sounds until I stop for a couple seconds. If I'm making out of breath noises from running and I switch to walking/urban I'll keep making out of breath noises until I stop moving for few seconds. But my regular breathing I don't hear like I used to.

Try playing Ash.

Now that you mention it, I only really hear breathing out of chase...

######### I can't even hear footsteps 75% of the time.

The devs have muted sound and cranked up occlusion because survivors complain about stealth. They also mute all sounds when chase music is playing so they can make different chase themes like the doctors and deathslingers without it being more powerful because they are quiet.

Outside of chase, I can pretty reliably track Dwights breathing if he's on the other side of a wall. Meg is obvious as well. The others, not so much.

You'll virtually never hear breathing, and it's very rare with Stridor. You'll hear footsteps and grass rustling first.

Well duh? You shouldn't be able to track Survivors by their damn breathing as consistently as tracking them by grunts of pain... That would be dumb af and would completely remove the option of stealth. Some people man...

I think the question is why does stridor not reveal breathing like it used to? With stridor you could find a hidden survivor by their breathing but now the perk doesnt seem to do that part other than with Meg

Errr... It does though? I literally was just playing Spirit this morning with Stridor and I kept finding healthy Survivors by their breathing when I was phase walking... All different characters too not just Meg. Fengs, Davids, Claudettes... This is still a thing.

Do you have a video? Because I cant hear anything at this point due to the music and other sounds

No I'm on my phone lol. It's only really doable with Spirit as when she's phasing, music and sounds become muffled. They definitely made it quieter (and tbf some characters are actually almost breathless like Kate for example) but I agree with that decision because like I said, it shouldn't be that easy to track a survivor by their breathing when they're healthy on every killer as it would just completely negate all stealth tactics. Things do change for balancing reasons sometimes you know, just because it was like that before doesn't mean that's the only way it should be.
