When will stretched resolution be finally fixed? People are cheating.

My research into the issue has been mixed. Given this is something done outside the game, I have serious doubts it can be fixed directly.
Unreal seems to have a way to force aspect ratio in their camera settings, but I have yet to find info to confirm if this overrides the NVIDIA control panel.
THAT BEING SAID
The changes I've seen to the farm maps seems to indicate the devs are aware of the issue and are seeking it to address it by raising the height on the haybale tiles themselves.

when will dedicated servers, sync and hitboxes be fixed, killers are unintentionally cheating with the free hits they get because devs dont fix it?
im not even playing on stretched, but if you talk about on side you should consider also talking about the other side.

Devs did the same for Macmillan walls but the perfect opposite for auto-heaven...

...i have numerous times. Thats just not the topic of this thread. For instance im a firm advicate for j-flick being fixed. And matchmaker being fixed for both sides. And of course the de-sync issue. This thread was even coincided with someone putting a post "when will the j flick be fixed, people are cheating"

Seen dowsey use it and nvidia filters.

Stop giving credit to these players they're garbo ashfgjualhgoijaofijpgòasefr

Next time try it ingame yourself rather than taking others screenshots and pretending they are yours.

I mean i don't need my own screenshot to prove ya wrong but if itll make you happy. Because ive had to prove this multiple times.

it's funny because the clip you took the second one from actually proves me right.

Okay This
Vs this. I can see still definitely less then the stretched user can. Also holy crap why did it take 15 tries to get that loop to spawn. Mines also on console so i can't get a stretched comparison.

Again, background stuff is just quality of life (as I referenced earlier, one of the reasons I really like stretched), actually tracking the killer in a chase is not different and still doable just fine on native, in both you can clearly see the killer. Maybe we differ in what constitutes an unfair advantage, I do not think stretched is cheating if you can attain the same actual gameplay benefits on native, which from a year of usage and hours of testing, I am thoroughly convinced you can.

I just follow the general rule of exploits.
In video games, an exploit is the use of a bug or glitches, game system, rates, hit boxes, speed or level design etc. by a player to their advantage in a manner not intended by the game's designers.
Is it a exploit even if it gives a slight advantage? Yes as not_queen said it was on stream. Am i against making something like stretched base? Of course not as long as the game balances around it. Does it suck consoles can't do stuff like this? Definitely just like filters to brighten up stuff. I know their main reason for keeping fov restricted is killers like michael you could see coming from further away and maybe there are actual loops you can only see over with stretched? Idrk. Its why they made the coldwind loops bigger in the ptb.

When someone cheats, they're admitting they have to.

Thats my thing even if a exploit gives the slightest of slight advantage people will use tf out of it. Any advantage for free is better than none. It aint even slight though if a nurse uses it they don't need shadowborne. Its a free perk. I know spirits who can't play her for crap unless spatial sound is turned on which is a windows exclusive feature that i think is basically free stridor?

I've literally never used Stretched Res, ######### are you saying?
There's nothing wrong with nvidia filters. The devs have them whitelisted (as well as reshade) as similar results can be achieved by changing your monitor/tv display settings.
1 -
All consoles have virtual audio (spatial sounds), it's just labelled differently on older-gen consoles (PS4 / Xbox One). Its not a windows exclusive thing.

Ah alright 👍 didn't know that. Thanks! I do know people like to throw stretched into the same boat as filters since "its just changing your display" but ones considered a exploit and ones accepted.

I just meant it makes seeing through fatigue easiser.
0 -
I mean, it could. By locking the vertical FOV in specific aspect ratios.

This seems like the argument for decisive strike. I kept hearing how every survivor needed it because of tunneling. It was required or you couldn't possibly play the game. They nerfed it into only being an anti-tunneling perk, and now nobody uses it. If the devs lowered the sight blockers so that you didn't need to stretch to see over them, then a lot of people who play with stretched res would quit using it as well. "it just looks better" is an obvious lie in most cases. It's a definite exploit that with definite benefits. I wish people would be honest about that at least.
People use every advantage they can get when being competitive. Just don't try to rationalize it as anything other than you need/want to play in a way the devs didn't intend, and others (on consoles) can't replicate. All these people championing stretched res as no big deal would probably cry if the killer could shrink their model so small that they couldn't be seen, or if you could use Nvidia filters to highlight survivor models and make them day glow. All of these examples are exploiting. Whether or not people think it's fine usually comes down to who is getting the advantage.
Didn't look at the dates, clearly a necro, sorry.

Wonder if this is considered necroing but stretched is still in the game, so i doubt it. This is still applicable today. But yeah fair. I wouldnt be upset if say console could do it as well or it was a perk. But its not. So it shouldnt be a thing.

Why I refuse to watch content creators who use stretched res. Blatant cheating idc what anyone says.

MAKE THE LOOPS TALLER!!! (think McMillan walls)
If it's an exploit - PROBLEM SOLVED
If it isn't an exploit - YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS CHANGE

Why can’t they lock the aspect ratio in game? Force it so regardless of NVIDIA settings the game is in a set aspect ratio frame.

NotQueen a while back did specifically say on a stream that the devs consider using stretched res to see over objects to be cheating and Dowsey mentioned separately that Behaviour warned Fog Whisperers not to do it. It’s definitely cheating, it’s just not something the game currently has an automatic prevention mechanism against.

Because then you would have people that actually use weird-ass screens and they would be playing with a disadvantage. Try to play on an Ultrawide screen in native rez and you will see my point. That's why they should just make the damn loops taller, it would fix everything and no one would be complaining anymore.
0 -
How would they be at a disadvantage if they have the same aspect ratio?
Also, even if hypothetically a tiny fraction of people on bizarre monitors get slightly clipped views, how is that worse than a relatively much larger number of people intentionally cheating to be able to see over obstacles?

Ultra-Wide setups could simply have a centred 16:9 picture with black borders on either side. Or the sides could be decorated with pictures of cats or some flowers.

If people can use the medical sickness excuse, the "looks better" excuse, the "need more FPS" excuse to use stretch rez they will. So let's say for a second they say the truth, that means they shouldn't be bothered if we somehow find a solution to remove some of the advantages stretch rez gives while still allowing them to use it. The solution I came up with is to make every loop in the game 2-3m tall, like McMillan loops, no matter what 99999x1 resolution you use, there is no way you can see over such a tall wall. End of story.
0 -
Jesus Christ you people drive me nuts, stop fighting about stupid ######### and focus on the matter at hand. WE HAVE A SOLUTION: TALLER LOOP WALLS!!! This is the last time I'm saying it.
0 -
How is that the “end of story”? Do you have any idea how much time it would take to retool literally every obstacle on every map to make sure it’s not susceptible to being seen over by stretched rez? It would be on par with their map reworks they spent over a year doing.
And no, some people claiming “I want more FPS” isn’t a legitimate reason to avoid having a fix in the game to keep aspect ratios from allowing relatively common cheats. My guess is they don’t have a fix so far because there’s a technical hurdle they haven’t figured out a way around that wouldn’t break something or require a huge amount of developmental resources to accomplish. Stretched Res is a known issue to the devs but they have to set priorities and it presumably doesn’t rise to the level of “redo all the maps from scratch” if that were the only automated fix.

Putting the code in that locks the aspect ratio to 16:9 will only take someone an afternoon to complete. Recreating all the all the walls will take months.

I can't play Nurse because of motion sickness. I'm not going to use a separate monitor and stretch res just so I can play her.

That's like saying it's your fault if someone steals from you.
