DBD Doesn't have the Horror Aspect
When I first started playing the DBD it had that horror aspect because I didn't know any of the killers or what they do and it was fun having that horror aspect. But now after playing the game for over a year now with almost 1K hours the game isn't scary anymore. It's just the same thing over again, and I know all the killers and how to counter them. It's just not scary.
I think if the dev's update all the maps with the new graphics the maps will have an eerie feeling and the maps will look great. But that doesn't solve the whole problem. The dev's need to update killer animations, just like they did with survivor animations. They need to make the killers look more realistic and up to date. For example being chased by a trapper isn't scary, but if they update his look and make him look more scarier, then it will make the game fun and have a horror aspect again. Plus almost all the killer design's don't go well with the updated graphics. I think adding custom terror radiuses and chase music will also make the game more scarier (The dev's said they will be trying to give all killers custom terror radiuses eventually)
How do you think the dev's can restore the horror aspect?

They can't!
The horror aspect will only last for so long.
It's like watching the same horror movie everyday for a year. Does that horror movie still scary you?

True, even if they do update it it will most likely not be scary anymore

You have 1k hours in the game, of course it's not scary & is just routine to you. New players are still very scared by it, though.

There is no way they can make this game scary beyond the first few hours. What makes the game fun is the addictive cat and mouse gameplay. Even if they add a killer that is legitimately scary to face it will only be scary for a couple games then they become just another killer. Even if all the killers had their own music and updated models it would not change much in this regard.

It's not a "scary" horror game, it's meant to have a horror atmosphere; a celebration of horror films, games, and shows.
