That's an increase from 92% up to 96,5% movement speed while charging your Shred.
Great change
24 -
Now I hope they make some changes to Rat Tail as well, because I seriously wanted that to be a basekit thing for Demo.
4 -
Awesome can't wait to try out Demo when live version comes out
3 -
so basically they buffed his portals, buffed his base shred while leaving Rat Liver essentially the same while changing most of his addons to be a bit more interesting
Consider me a happy Demo Main
30 -
3,5% out of 4,00 equal 0,14
So with rat liver demo will have 4,00 speed instead of 4,04 speed he has on live (3,86 + 0,14)
Well, AT LEAST some improvement. Still a nerf though.
EDIT: Still one addonslot`ed killer if you want to have good chase.
EDIT2: People disagreeing with me, please, prove me wrong. Or you think it's an improvement because they fed you a hard version of a nerf which they were going to slightly rewert after a huge backslash so everyone gladly eats the light nerf they wouldn't have accepted otherwise?
0 -
...🤦
21 -
It clearly says the effect of rat liver is unchanged...
1 -
I have maths written down above. Please, provide your calculations to prove me wrong.
1 -
######### has maths got to do with it, it’s clearly stated in the tweet
0 -
Old rat liver gave 9% bonus to 92% default speed.
New rat liver is supposed to give 3,5% bonus to 96,5% default speed.
In case of old rat liver we have 101% total movement speed.
In case of new rat liver we have 100% total movement speed. That's a 1% nerf.
Tweeter guy can say whatever he wants, that's his job, but you can't argue with math.
3 -
To be fair, it says "effectively unchanged." 100 vs. 101 could be seen as "effectively unchanged" while also being still seen as a (tiny) nerf to Rat Liver Demo (as opposed to Pig where her basekit crouch buff and Combat Straps nerf still resulted in identical crouch speed as old Pig crouch speed + old Combat Straps).
Assuming the math checks out (which I can't confirm because I don't recall the percentages off-hand), Profezia is technically right, which court of law legally dictates is objectively the best kind of right. :P (Of course, if their math is off, then you can disregard this whole post.)
7 -
They are correct it is 4.00 m/s but the devs have not offically addressed if it was a intended nerf. They said it should be unchanged so idk.
1 -
It's nice they're listening to feedback.
2 -
"Effectively unchanged"
@Profezia is right, they will nerf Rat Liver by 1%
So instead of moving at 101% movement speed you'll move at 100% with that addon.
But it's really negligible.
The buff to base movement speed while charging is much more important.
5 -
Eh, small change but going in a good direction.
0 -
Well, no. They technically remain wrong, because no speed difference and little speed difference is a lot. Yeah, it's a big improvement from that nerf we had originally, but it still means a lot.
In case of 101% you slowly close the distance between you and survivor, while in case of 100% you just don't lose distance.
It's not going to be VERY crucial, but it's still a nerf I personally wouldn't like seeing on live.
0 -
I said that you are technically right.
EDIT: Oops, I confused you with Mugombo. My bad.
0 -
but at least demo isn't add-on dependent for rat liver anymore
0 -
You're seriously trying to argue that .18m/s faster speed while charging or holding shred, 3m/s faster speed traversing portals, 4 seconds less of a cooldown between teleports, and 1 extra second of undetectable in the base kit AND a few other solid new add-ons are all outweighed by one specific add-on giving you .04m/s less speed while charging or holding shred? This from the person who told me I'm living in fantasy land in the other thread?
5 -
demo not being add on dependent is great honestly
0 -
Well thats nice, I thought they actually were going to gut him
0 -
I think you’re misunderstanding the tweet. ( although the wording of it isn’t great)
It seems more like ‘effectively unchanged’ means that the effect rat liver has is unchanged. In other words it does exactly what it does now
0 -
Tbh, I'd rather them making this 4,00 base and THEN do something with rat liver so that demo will always have 4,00 of the abyss speed.
You know, just to be consecutive and get this over with.
@TAG oh yeah, right. I thought you were talking about twitter guy who technically is right that liver would do the same.
0 -
Yeah but I don’t think maths has ever been a strong point for them to actually be used for working out values.
92 + 9% isn’t 101, it’s 100.28
0 -
Demo has always been my secondary ever since i basically started, and I can't wait to play the new demo
0 -
I think the game calculates the movement speed slightly differently tho.
OLD RAT LIVER
3.68 m/s * 1.09 = ~4.011 m/s
NEW RAT LIVER
3.86 m/s * 1.035 = ~3.995 m/s
3 -
Honestly, the difference between 99%, 100%, and 101% is kinda important though.
The reason why Rat Liver was so good was because you still technically made distance on the survivor while charging at 101%, whereas now, at 100%, you don't.
Still, it's a 1% difference, but it's probably the most impactful 1% difference in the game because it's the difference between making distance and not. But it's not THAT big of a deal honestly, I'm just pointing out how much 1% can change gameplay between 99%-101%.
New Rat Liver is the same, but slightly different. Instead of losing distance, you're not making nor losing any, so I get why people would want it 101%. The only reason I want old Rat Liver back is purely just because it didn't deserve a nerf, 1% or not. It should just give the same exact effect.
Unless my math is wrong and it's always been 9% of 92% added to 92%, and not just 9% added to 92%. Then ignore me.
0 -
In any case that number is bigger than 100% even by their ######### calculations.
Also, where exactly are you coming up with 100,28 number? I'd like to see a source of that information, as I don't really remember demo having that low OtA speed with liver.
0 -
I wasn’t using any sources, I was using maths like you said.
Mathematically, if base speed is 92% or 3.68. If you get the base speed and add 9%, it works out to be 100.28% or 4.01
0 -
I mean, somewhat. It is definitely a start, so it's good.
1 -
4,00 = 100%
1% = 0,04
92% = 3,68
9% = 0,36
3,68 + 0,36 = 4,04
So how exactly? Or they use different formula to count movespeeds?
0 -
I’m not talking about what BHVR use, I have no idea what they do and how their numbers work.
Im talking purely maths. For example;
100 - 8% = 92
92 + 8% = 99.36
With percentages it doesn’t work the way you stated. But what calculations does the game use? I have no idea
3 -
i still don't get how you got these numbers, maybe you calculated 8% out of 92% instead of 100%, idk, but here's actual numbers provided by dev who is yet to betray our trust:
- Increase shred speed to 3.86m/s
- Rat Liver increases it to 4.0m/s (same as before)
So it's safe to assume new rat liver does +0,14.
0 -
This is still a nerf overall.
This means his speed without it is 96.5% but everyone pretty much always used rat liver so it would be around 100% before.
Currently it would only be 97.75% WITH rat liver. You could argue that now he can take other addons but I mean....a lot of his other addons are still not that great. We shouldn't be mourning a brown addon for god's sake, we should be thinking "Oh man I can't wait to run that yellow, green, purple addon or try these combinations now" but we are not, we are still trying to get value out of a brown addon because a lot of the effects of his other addons mechanically are just not that useful, hell a few of them have even been nerfed....
EDIT: Nvm I am wrong I misread the change. It would make his movement about 100% roughly or 100.5% rather. So I mean....it's the same if you take rat liver at least; but incentivizes other addons some. However I still maintain that this wasn't the best way to change this.

Gooood. Very good

Like I said, I have no idea what the devs use or how their calculations work.
The numbers I gave are purely from maths.
If base speed during shred charge is 3.68. Rat liver add 9% increase to the base speed.
3.68 + 9% is 4.01(12), not 4.04
2 -
I like that change. No one wants to be butt rode my a Demo. I was in arms about the rat liver as base but I didn't want it maxed. This seems like a fair trade-off. The drop off in speed isn't as bad but you can't also butt ride like old Leatherface. You have a super fast dash attack. Learn how to use it properly. Butt riding someone with it shouldn't be a thing, otherwise take the dash away and give him a small lunge.

1% from 4,00 is 0,04, right?
9% from 4,00 is 0,04 x 9 = 0,36, right?
we're calculating 9% not from 3,68, but from 4,00. All percentages in the game are calculated from a default number (4,00 in case of m/s) as otherwise it would be a mess both for the people trying to understand it and for the spaghetti code having to pull off more difficult formulars than default 4,00 x X%
0 -
That's my point.
However base increase is still good tbh as 96,5% isn't as bad as 92% so you will be able to at least consider taking other addons.
It would be even better if they straight up given him 100% default speed and made rat liver do something else (for example decrease time it take for shred to fully charge (so 0,75 -> 0,75 initial start and 1,5 -> 1,25 full power for example), but I guess it'll just become yet another mandatory chase addon so I'd be fine with it just giving an extra portal like old pumpkin did or decreasing missed shred cd and that's behaviour we're talking about so.. yeah.
0 -
Yeah I agree with that.
I really think they should make it 100% by default, and make rat liver just give one more portal I actually liked old rotten pumpkin.
I also think they should make it so that his footsteps and gurgling sounds become silent when he is in undetectable status. Not only for his own kit and addons, but for the sake of perk synergy as well. I would love to be able to experiment with perks more.
Those changes alone would make people plenty happy, outside of that there are some mechanically useless addons that would ideally be changed and that would pretty much leave him in a perfect state you don't have to change anymore.
0 -
They should make demo crawl on all fours while he's undetectable after emerging (like he does in lobby) or until he tries to attack/shred survivor.
That wouldn't be too hard to implement since demo already has such asset, but it would be bloody awesome + it would make sense if he stops making loud noises.
But it's behaviour so no awesome things.
0 -
I dunno, that would be cool visually but I don't know if I want my camera glued into the grass like I am old Blight.
0 -
That's the only downside I can think of, but imagine how cool it would be to sneak on survivors with it. And it would generally make demo ambushes more effective as right now stomps, gurgling and height of a skyscraper don't really help him.
0 -
That’s unnecessary.
This change to the base movement speed, plus new Rat Liver will mean Demo will be back to moving ever so slightly faster than survivors again.
1 -
What?
Rat Tail just affects portal placement speed why on earth would that be related?
0 -
Oops, my bad. Read “Rat Tail” as “Rat Liver”.
Doh.
2 -
That might be how they do it, like I said I’m not sure how they do it.
But if it is that way then the maths is wrong because it’s not a 9% increase
1 -
whatever, maybe, too lazy to make a further research, what matters is:
1) Old liver allowed to move faster than survivor
2) New liver allows to move as fast as survivor.
0 -
No, I just checked because I misread the number. New rat liver would let you move at 100.5% so I mean....I guess if it used to be like 101% then sure, technically it's slower, but I mean at that point I feel it's pretty negligible in return for having of the abyss speed increased.
I still would have preferred it be base kit and the addon itself change though. This is just such an unnecessary way of changing it.
