Survivors taking game hostage needs to be addressed
I've been seeing an ascending number of survivors taking hostage when there's only two survivors remaining. They don't touch gens, they don't seek chases, they only hide for minutes and minutes. I had to DC on a lot of times because it's less painful.
And I just don't think I should use perks to try to avoid this. It's a design problem and the team should care about it.

Sorry if I don't want to take chase against infinite tier 3 tombstone myers on a map where getting stalk is very easy with teammates who just let him stalk them.
I do feel like they should give the killer the option to power the exit gates, though, if a certain amount of time has passed. Say 15 minutes into the game.

80 minute game?!!!! Oh my god!

Yeah there needs to be a time limit put in place.
Something like 20 minutes or maybe even 30 would help stop survivors just hiding and taking the game hostage. They'd eventually lose and get sacrificed.
Only problem this could bring is killers bringing 4 slow down perks on a slowdown killer, could be abused.

Yeah he posted about it on the forums and I laughed so hard when he told me about it

They could expand the crow mechanic.
If no objectives are progressed in the game at all for x amount of time (so no gen repair, no sabotages, no totems, etc.) and no one is in a chase, then all remaining survivors get a crow.
It would probably have to be a longer amount of time than the individual crow penalty though. I would say 90s base for 1 crow, then 120s for 2 and 150s for 3.

Respectfully, I have to disagree.
This is handing survivors a free opportunity to escape, and promoting an incredibly unhealthy playstyle.
Survivors who do not engage the objective, and force the killer to play hide-n-seek for minutes on end, have not earned (and therefore should not be given) a chance to survive the trial.
Survivors need to understand that they are responsible for fixing the generators, and they need to continue doing so, even if the stakes have become higher. Nothing is more frustrating than a single survivor chasing a killer for 10 minutes while the only other survivor alive crouches in some corner.

If you stomped them so hard that gens are no longer a viable option (2v1 at 4-5 gens) they are no longer playing against you, they are betting against each other for the hatch.
I have no advice to give under this circumstance, I play doc most of the time so finding one is easy as pie.

I had a 16 hour game once. @TheGannMan is right tho, that Haddonfield game was ridiculous.

Maybe they could add a noise notification and show their aura for 3 seconds once every 60 seconds or so when they aren't either in chase or doing anything to progress the match.

No realistic solution without providing a way for killers to cheese

If they are taking the game hostage you can report them in game and then send video proof in a support ticket. https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

I suggest playing one of the 3 killers that delete stealth (Doc, Plague, and Oni) or using one of the several aura reading perks or Spies from the Shadows. Just kill them.

So apparently survivors have to be forced to get chased. I hate to break it to you guys, but hiding is a strategy. If there is two survivors maybe they are searching chest to see if they may find a key. Or they may not be good loopers, so they may play more sneaky. Maybe they are waiting for one other survivor to get find and get taken out. So they may find hatch. It's like survivors complaining about a killer who slugs if there is two, in order to find the last survivor to get a 100% 4k.
1 -
Naw it's strategy to play "hide and seek". This is a horror game, hiding is a way to avoid the killer.
0 -
Hiding stops being a strategy somewhere around the 15-minutes-and-no-one-has-touched-a-gen mark and becomes holding the game hostage. It is against the rules. If the killer reports survivors who do that those survivors can be banned.
3 -
How the hell did that happen?
0 -
Proof? I doubt someone can hide for 16 hours. This sounds fake.

On Rancid Abbatoir, a Survivors glitched on top of one of the loops that have hay bales.
Refused to come down. Told me to "just DC you [BAD WORD] loser."
So I waited. And waited. And waited. And eventually his Xbox overheated and shut down and I won.
Also, @Trickstaaaaa that's how.

Whispers.
You need better tracking? Bring that perk.
What do you want survivors to do? just surrender?
0 -
LMAO that just made my day XD

I mean the other day I vs a very stealthy team, and I could not, and did not find the last person, and it took about 20 minutes for the game to end. I never saw the last survivor in the whole game, they found a key and got out through hatch. But I can't get mad because that is a playstyle some people have.

Does it make it better if I told you he spammed me for the majority of the time?
Oh, and that he got perma chat banned after he called me several slurs in a paragraph he sent me?
1 -
So you left your computer on for 16 hours?
1 -
Nope. Left my Xbox on for that long. I actually just went to bed, he was still up there t-bagging when I woke up, but I have to assume he also went to bed for a little bit.
1 -
That's one of the best stories I've heard. What exactly did you do during those 16 hours?
0 -
I slept xD.
I also wrote a kick-ass research paper on my PC when I woke up for a few hours

and that is why hatch is an awful solution to endgame problems.
2v1s should not become a 1v1v1 dog-eat-dog world where solo survivors need to pray their teammate is willing to complete the objective or bad enough to be found and down.
it is unfathomable that someone can loop the killer for 7 minutes and see no progress towards the objective. That is enough time for all 5 generators to be completed.
0 -
I figured that you would've slept during that

If survivors aren't doing anything to progress the match over a certain length of time it's classed as taking the game hostage in the rules and with video evidence is bannable.
1 -
I was really angry at the time, but looking back it is fun to laugh at.
1 -
I would've been angry too. I would like to play the game while not taking a dc penalty. But you are right that it's a great memory.
0 -
Oh it was WAY before DC penalties were added.
I had another similar game with a Claudette who glitched out and couldn't die to the EGC. I think it was one of my first posts.
1 -
Wow you have quite a history of DBD matches
0 -
That's the reality of SQ. Sometimes you get a competent team, sometimes you get a kennel. I don't think that hatch is the primary issue in this case, but the lack of a natural progression for the game similar to the situation before ECG was introduced. A bandage solution could be allowing the killer to open the Exit Gates as soon as a 2v1 starts.
In the meantime, use whispers. I can't understate how powerful it is in this kind of situations.

I have been around since April or May of 2018, but I didn't play regularly until November of 2018.

What if they are looking for chest to see if they can find any keys? I mean what if one is hiding to avoid devour hope?
0 -
This is the kind of pointless, toxic behavior that drives me into an IRL blood rage.
To the point that I've gotten so skilled at hunting down hiding survivors that these kinds of matches end within ten minutes.
There is a fine line between overly altruistic and blendette. Force them to walk that fine line or suffer the consequences.
What I'm saying is that you should try Doctor. Not even Iron Will can hide you forever.
0 -
Yeah ok, ofcourse you did
0 -
He’s lying. Could have made it more believable though, 16 hours lol
0 -
It would be in the killer's hands. It gives the killer a way to 'give up' without Disconnecting or going AFK. It would start the EGC (Giving survivors 3 minutes to open the exit gates and get out, as if the hatch had been closed). It'd have to power the exit gates, because otherwise it could be abused on the killer's side. It'd also force them to the exit gate, where the killer could, you know, kill them.

It makes zero difference to me whether or not you believe me. That game happened before I joined the Forums, perhaps in January of 2019.
The other game I briefly mentioned, where a Claudette glitched out, you can actually see my post about on my profile. It's almost two years old, so don't necro it, but you can clearly see it.
I have zero reason to lie about this, and you have zero proof that I am lying. You just don't like what I'm saying.

@Beelzeboop IRL after a Nea clicks her flashlight
2 -
I can give you a play-by-play of the game, if you like.
I think I took a screenshot of the post-game lobby at one point and a video of the gamer t-bagging me, but I'm fairly certain they are gone by now, as it's been two years and I need space to make more spicy captures.

Where did you get that picture?

;)

Time limit sounds a good idea.
15 min and all survivors get instant kill.
0 -
I'm sorry, but I see Killers do this far more often than I see survivors doing it. I've seen Killers find a 3-gen at the very start of the game and sit on it with 5 gens still up. It is insane and in solo Q, it is almost impossible to win against a 3-gen due to how bad my console team mates usually are. So if it gets addressed on the survivor side which I've honestly never seen happen (Maybe because I'm not a potato and run Whispers) it needs to also be addressed on the killer side.
1 -
It doesn't matter, if it goes past a certain time limit and you aren't doing anything to progress the game if they send in a report BHVR can ban you for it.
