The Continued Ignorance of Performance Issues Continues to Hamper Player Fun

According to the devs, this game is CPU-Bound. However I'm still seeing a 100% GPU utilization at Medium-Low setting at 100% resolution or auto-adjust on PC with my 3080. Constant dips of my 99% FPS which makes the game feel EXTREMELY laggy capped because it legit stutters like that every 3-7 seconds and with 120 it at least drops to 63-75 FPS instead of 22-34 FPS.
Something tells me this game is still blueprint code which is just really bad. Who would've guessed.

My frames drop I to the teens sometimes. The middle room of Lery's is notorious for this, especially against Freddy or Nemesis. I thought they recoded the game into C+++ a long while back?
1 -
They converted their horrible blueprint code into C++. It's still the same horrible code, just now in C++.
1 -
Yikes!
0 -
C++ is what my dad learned to code on in the early 90's.
0 -
С++ is still a pretty popular and powerful language. Just the code that BHVR are using is extremely bad.

Like the longer they take to go and re-do their codebase, the deeper a hole they're digging themselves. You can look up the concept of technical debt,it perfectly describes DBD,which has 6 years of that debt now.

RPD is starting to cause some fairly sizable issues for me on my Xbox Series X.
It seems to occur most often near the Helicopter Crash and in the back rooms near the whiteboard room and dark room.
I haven't noticed any freezing, but my frames will go from near 60 to near 25-30 when I get near the aforementioned areas.
I have noticed this same phenomenon on Haddonfield and Garden of Joy as well.
One of these days I am going to fix my old Xbox One and actually record some new clips, but until then, feel free to keep posting any that you have.
Thank you.

I noticed that the new RPD looks worse graphically and somehow runs worse. It's impressive...
1 -
I haven't noticed any significant downgrades, though, I haven't been looking for them either.
I would say that it does run worse than the original.

This post, still to this day, remains true. Can't teach an old dog new tricks I guess.

My game on ultra runs better than low
1 -
everyone literally loves you mandy lmao

Bruh. April 2021.
3 -
if you play on Xbox, maybe not,but as someone who plays on Ultra,it looks much worse.
0 -
Yes?
0 -
Could be.
I think the Consoles are locked on High.
0 -
While true, that comment is over a year old.
3 -
what the... it was literally at the top of my forum thing in general discussions, I didn't even really notice
0 -
What do you suppose the Ultra setting would do to the older machines, or yours? Especially on those troublesome maps you mentioned?
1 -
I know this was necro but @Pulsar do you think this is still an issue
0 -
Yes, because I posted on it to update it.
You'll find comments from early 2021 all the way through 2022.
2 -
It was not a necro.
I periodically update this thread due to Optimization still being an issue, even on the newer generation of systems.
8 -
I'm not sure.
I have seen reports from several people over the duration of this thread claiming that Ultra actually runs better for them than anything else.
Certainly, Ultra would be devastating to the Xbox One and PS4, especially on the newer maps.
The issue is that it's so very hard to tell what would happen. By all accounts, the Xbox One S and the PS4 Pro should be able to do just fine, graphics-wise. The bottlenecking of the CPU appears to be the issue and why DBD suffers from this so intensely, I do not know.
Clearly though something is fundamentally wrong with the Optimization, there are performance issues people have reported with PC set-ups that cost more than my car. That really shouldn't be happening with a game as intense as DBD. There is no sprawling map, there are no abundant particle effects, there aren't dozens of players and yet, the game still runs worse than BF2042 (huge maps, abundant particles, dynamic weather, 64 players) on the Xbox One.
3 -
It's not surprising CPU is an issue. DBD's codebase is obviously terrible.
If you build your codebase around a base made on the UE4's equivalent of Scratch - your game will run like hot garbage. DBD is the example of what not to do in software development - it's technical debt at it's peak.
1 -
Perfomance getting worse and worse and nothing really proving why? is getting pretty common on DBD updates :/
is not even funny anymore can some DEV say something about this issue? please

Ps4 still plays like hot dog poo on a scorching summer's day. Things still being ignored that are now piling up. Frame rates dropping during animations still or even just mid chase, latency and connection issues, no PTB for console still, and every game I see red killer and survivor ping and I just know some whacky stuffs gonna happen already. @TragicSolitude had a detailed and informational perspective on issues affecting Switch yesterday that was taken down but would fit in here too.
3 -
Oh, is that thread gone? Dang.
Well, if I remember the post correctly, what I said was that I thought PS4 (Pro, I'm on PS4 Pro btw) was bad, but then I started playing on Switch and in comparison the PS4 is smooth as butter. The Switch needs a console-only cross-play option because it is so screwed over by performance issues. I'd turn cross-play off completely so I only go against Switch players, but if I do that I don't get a match at all.
The way BHVR has treated console issues is extremely inconsiderate. Fix the performance problems? The issues seem to get worse. Add the very needed controller options like dead zone and response curve so console players can have control more on par with PC players? No. Give us a console-only cross-play option so that we don't have to go against those PC players? No. And in fact, if you want those queue bonuses, you have to cross-play with PC users.
Yeah, if this is how it's going to be, the game never should have been ported to console.
6 -
At this point i'd gladly switch to PC if they had cross progression that allowed you to link all your accounts and have your stuff, but that is a pipe dream. I guess until then...
4 -
Even on PC, I can say I get these freezes and stutters. There is A LOT of rubberbanding and I'm not dropping internet. I've also got a much newer computer. This is def relevant now.
5 -
Ditto. I got the game on Switch because cross-progression had a set date. I would grind and level up on the go (I was traveling at the time I made the purchase), and then I'd be able to have good fun games when at home on my PC. Had I known it wasn't a guarantee, I would never have bought it. I feel absolutely cheated and deceived, and I've never trusted BHVR about anything they say they're working on since.
I will quit the game forever before I re-grind or re-purchase all the DLC for a third time. Just no. I only did it twice because it's for my friend and I to play together, otherwise I would've stopped at once.
Edit: I just want to say, I'm not claiming BHVR cheated or deceived on purpose. Things go wrong, things change. But I wish they had been more up front about things, because the sudden change to "date unknown" (which I consider to mean "yeah, this is probably never happening") took me completely by surprise.
7 -
It makes me sad even infuriated at the thought of cross progression never even coming before they pull the PS4 plug. I would rather not play than play on another console ever again. And I sure as heck am not starting over. Ever.

I have a few questions for the PS4 users, just to know is this is just me or general
Sometimes, when you are doing an archive challenge, you complete it but in the post-game screen the archives prompt on the right doesn't appear and the progress of the challenge doesn't save?.
Do you get an Error 109 sometimes when the game is over (right before going to the post-game screen)? Is a server error, the game crashes and kicks you out to the opening screen (at least you don't lose progress on bps or your archive challenge...).
When you start the game in the opening screen (press X to continue), do you take like ages to get to the menu screen? Sometimes I get 'No network connection' or 'Inicialization error'.
Do your PS4 overheat while playing Ghostface (for example, when a survivor reveals you)?.

Not sure if they already do this, but I highly recommend that they use DX12 mode for consoles. It doubled my FPS, and while it did crash a lot before, that stopped happening when I manually updated the VC Redists to the newest versions.
They should look into making DX12 more stable, and make it default for consoles. It could go a long way.

I'm all ears = 1 sec freeze

We really need to push BHVR hard for a rewrite that will not only get rid of all the blueprint code they're CLEARLY still using with how random all the bugs are (BNPs breaking by merciless storm, pig displaying calm spirit or prove thyself.etc.) and will also move most game logic to actual real dedicated servers like proper multiplayer games.
This would nip many of the current issues in the bud.

Yeah I gave up on that perk.
Hiccups also occur during other stuff, most noticeably during hooking/unhooking. Some killer powers, like going into dream world as surv cause short freezes for me as well.
Recently, rpd is sometimes like a slideshow for me. I struggle to even hit skillchecks there because of the delay and frame skipping.
I wouldn't say game is unplayable for the most part like it was during the first re chapter release, but it definitely is a handicap playing dbd on old gen with crossplay on.

The PS4's fans going absolutely ballistic is a well-known DBD interaction.
It does also cause the Xbox One's fans to get loud as well.
5 -
In the past, we were confused as to why some unhooks caused freezing and others did not. After some investigation, we determined it was likely due to the Endurance status effect being applied, so the freeze would only happen if the unhooker applied BT to the Survivor.
Do the unhook freezes occur constantly now that BT is base-kit?
0 -
I was getting constant hook/unhook freezes prior to basekit BT because it was any hook/unhook related perk that would cause the freezes. If there was a match where survivors didn't bring BT then the killer was running one or more scourge hook perks anyway that would cause the freeze. Still getting constant freezes but not sure if it's due to basekit BT or that every match there's either OTR/BT too or killer running scourge hooks.

Vsing freddy reminds me of release nemmy a little bit. Not quite but still, those hiccups while entering a dream world especially when you get hit hinder you quite a bit. Or maybe its worse when you loop but you freeze and get hit or downed. Super fair lol.
Luckily barely anyone plays him.

Is the PS5/XSX more quiet than the PS4? The PS4 is obnoxiously loud when playing DBD
0 -
My Series X is quieter, until I load into Haddonfield, Garden of Joy or RPD.

The issues I'm having right now in my current games are rubber-banding and lagging. The FPS drops hard for some reason and the game sometimes lags my character when someone is hooked or a generator pops and teleports me back about 3m which is detrimental in this game and ultimately decides whether you live or die sometimes and it has killed me quite a few times already. It's not my internet, my internet is flawless when I play other games such as the Borderlands series, Skyrim, etc.
0 -
Skyrim is single-player I thought?
You will get freezes but I haven't seen hooks or gen pops causing rubber-banding.
0 -
There is a mod where you can play with friends, it's called The Skyrim Together Reborn multiplayer mod. I play that sometimes and still it never lags.
And yeah, it happens to me and I've seen other people complain about it too. It's when certain situations happen and not so much as random occurrences. It doesn't happen every single game though, maybe every 3/5.

I went to the Archives and found this.
Is this close to what you're experiencing?
0 -
Those maps also cause by Xbox1 fans to freak out, as does each time I clear a bloodweb at lv 50.
0 -
Yeah kind of, except it's usually right as an action is happening. It does freeze like that though, and sometimes it teleports me backwards as something is happening.
0 -
Anyone getting more hiccups (short freezes) now?
Status icons take forever to load and when some of them pop up my game freezes more often than before.
Even using deliverance makes me lose distance because of it.
They always have to break something with updates don't they. Like it wasn't enough already.
