Until it's fixed, the next best option is not to trust pallets and combine vaults and los blockers together more.
I know it can be very fustrating, and there will be times that pallet is all you have to work with, but try adding in all parts of adjoining tiles whenever you can.

Im afraid its not the pallet problem, but killer VPNing from other side of the world problem, that apparently BHVR doesnt really want to adress. being in East Europe i was playing solo survivor, matched with other east european survivors and NA killers, because they VPN. On their screen, due to latency, you didnt yet drop pallet when they hit you.

No. Before 4.5.0 hitboxes were somewhat fine. It's the patches that screwed hitboxes....
