Do headphones really give you an advantage

I'm not a headphones person, so I don't use them for this game. I find headphones uncomfortable. But it seems everyone has agreed that using headphones for this game give you an advantage. So is it true? compared to just using your ears from hearing from speakers?

So for killer it's helps out more? But for survivors it's not necessary right?

Headsets vary obviously but as killer it's nice and I mean niiicce. I be in a chase with steve (example) hit him at pallet while cleaning my blade I hear Feng annoying rat voice behind a wall quickly spin and smack and continue chasing steve for extra pressure. Footsteps, breathing, generators, helps for survivor too I hear the faint heartbeat sooner, mike, ghosty's whips faster, demo's portals and can track them easier, hatch location quicker, etc.

For killer yes massively. When I do play with a headset, I've been able to find blendettes in bushes due to being able to hear their normal breathing.

For Survivor kind of. If a killer is trying to mind game and its someone like blight or spirit who make noises, you can tell if they have changed directions

For survivors there's some situations where your ears are important, but most of the time it's not a huge deal and the sounds you're listening for are very loud. For killer, you're constantly tracking survivors so good headphones makes a big difference.

Locating by sound is just as, if not more important than being able to locate by sight in this game.

Just watch Otz and his psycho bloodhound hearing, dude hears a hiding Cheryl breathing 20 meters away and knows exactly where she is.

It's an insane difference using headphones. Unless you are playing in a house by yourself with at least a 6.1 sound system cranked pretty high.

Definitely give advantage as both killer and survivor.

As survivor: Stealth killers you will hear their footsteps/breathing - this has saved me a ton. Easier to pinpoint direction killers are coming from. Easier to hear teammates nearby that are injured. Easier to find gens that have been started on indoor maps.

As killer: Hear grass movements or survivors breathing that are trying to hide Better hear and pinpoint injured survivors, survivors cleansing a totem, survivors working in gen, squeak of locker from survivor entering/exiting.

The maps have some weird sounds too sometimes that can throw you off for the first time just like weird moans and crackling idk hard to describe unless my headset is haunted. I also have followed the maps blood on midwich thinking it was survivors more than once uhhh why would that even be a thing.

As a survivor I always run spine chill. So I'm good in that department of getting caught of guard by killers. Now killer I'm sure it does give an advantage. But I like to hear the environment around me, what something happens and I don't hear. So that is why I don't to use headphones.

I wouldn't call it an advantage as much as I would call it putting oneself at a disadvantage to play without them. Headphones of some type are almost a necessity, especially when playing killer. I started playing the game at first without them, and I was stunned by how important directional audio cues were, even as a survivor (less important for survivor than killer, but still very useful). I can't imagine playing the game without them now.

As someone who's hearing impaired, absolutely. I hear everything better not what the sound is directly next to my good ear. Terror radius, hatch, grunts of pain, etc just all sound pounder now.

it's easier, but I had about a year in which I would take turns with someone else playing and we'd play with speakers on. It's definitely possible to do OK with speakers, but it's a pain, imo.

For killer it’d a huge advantage vs most setups. I have quite an expensive tv with decent speakers but it’s pretty much impossible to discern the direction a sound is coming from, and even with the volume up too high, survivors sounds are quieter than with headphones.

Unplayable as a killer without them

Let's just put it like this:

    • If I wear headphones as survivor, I can potentially hear the footsteps of Ghostface or the heavy breathing of both Michael & Pig. Definitely saves myself from getting jumpscared.
    • If I wear headphones as killer, I can hear survivor breathing and footsteps as well as determine if they already left the loop or are hiding in the nearest bush.

Headphones are a definite advantage and while it may be more useful when playing killer rather than survivor, they do make a difference and I play slightly better with them.

You don't know how much you're missing audio-wise until you play the game with a decent pair of headphones.

Makes a huge difference. I wont play when my headphone needs recharging. Its like an Audio Spine chill.

Nothing is better than having a flashlight mean nothing because you can hear where the survivor is relative to where you were blinded

I literally cannot play killer without headphones. I might as well be blindfolded, gagged, and my hands tied behind my back without one. And no that's not one of my kinks either >:(

I've tried both with and without headphones.

For me headphones are a must for this game, I simply don't play as well without them.

And they've got to have a proper left/right ear sound as well. Can't have the same sounds blended into both earbuds, if you know what I mean.
