Does anyone here appreciate the profanity filter?

It has really cool features like filtering out phrases like "facecamping", "teabagging", and the highly toxic phrase "IRL". But it allows friendly phrases like "gg ez" and "#########", which is really nifty.

Does anyone here think BHVR responded to an actual need the community asked for?

I'd like to point out the irony that a derogatory term for someone who suffers from an impairment to their intellectual development is allowed by the game's profanity filter but not by the forum's profanity filter. :D

so the thing is they are filtering out words when its a horror game meant for adults.... thats like not being able to say the other word ffor donkey in GTA while the npcs call you a fornication wit

I'm totally fine with having the filter in the game. I just wish it was optional.

Isn't this game like close to 18/15+? I also would rather enjoy the salty comments (including the insults) from salty people, always makes you laugh and question their mental state or age at the same time

I love the profanity filter, it is awesome to not have to hear from all the young russian men how they slept with my mother.

    She's 81 by the way and I am 48.

@Hex_SARS_2_CoV I personally find it sad that I'll never find my real dad in DbD now that they're blocking all the Russian men who slept with my mom.

You made a pretty good point but I think some of that may have been caught by the profanity filter.

They repeatedly said that this is a feature that is being still actively worked on and improving - also on community feedback.

and it has been proven that many of the claimed censored terms are not even censored for other players..

so I think it’s a good feature that still needs adjustments.

    @Mooks

Why do you think it is a good feature?

I'm interested in what the customer's ask was here and why BHVR is spending any amount of time/money on a profanity filter.

The forum was and is full of threads crying about toxic end-game chats.

there is definitely stuff that should not be brought up even if this game is 18+ and is about murder.

Of course they can ban those that are against the rules but then there is people saying they don’t even ban etc, so why not prevent that stuff from being written in the first place?

it’s currently too strict of course, but they are changing it according to feedback, they for example said they will make sure that character names and such will not be censored anymore.

    I honestly haven't noticed it.

But most of my end game chats simply don't have much outside of gg.

My favorite idea here is that as a way to reduce toxicity, they simply ban the discussion of it in the game. It doesn't prevent teabagging, face camping, flashlight clicking, body blocking your teammates, or hook farming. It simply filters out the term.

I think it's pretty stupid they blocked the word "kill" and "killed" in a game where the goal of the game is to kill everybody.

what do you mean I ########## the ############ and I really think it ################## for the game.

Honestly the devs should ########### the ########## would be ########## if they did.

    so yeah overall, ###########

It's been implemented terribly, nor do I find it necessary. I definitely understand blocking things like slurs and threats, but blocking normal swear words in an M-Rated game is ridiculous. Of course, they could fix all these issues by just making it optional, but who knows if they'll do that?
