Just a well made look into freddy
This video is just very well made, and it would be a shame if more people didn't see it.
I kinda agree with most of his points.
Freddy is good, but doesn't really feel like freddy.

They ruined freddy’s identity with his rework. It’s sad that he lost what was unique about him

They should rework his entire power again, I would give him a giant buffed version with his old power, but give him his snares and dream pallets, and I would add a change to not allow skill checks to wake you up, only survivors can wake each other up by using the animation. Freddy with his power makes no sense for who he truly is.

I agree completely. I remember anticipating the release of the rework. I was so excited. Had my daughter download the update while I was at work. And then. 3 games later i shelved him.
The only killer adept i have. The killer who got me into this game isn't even level 50 yet. The only enjoyment i get from him when i play are the dream pallets.
If a picture could collect dust, freddy would be buried. I am sad.

Eh, I disagree. I can’t understand why old freddy mains said that he was more faithful to his film incarnation and felt like you were playing Freddy, because the main feeling that I got from playing OF most of the time was powerlessness, regardless of the result of the match.
At the very least, current Freddy fits the “Dream Master” part of the character better, with him teleporting from blood, changing the floor snares and pallets. Old Freddy had none of that, he was just an invisible guy that needed to wait what felt like hours to hit you normally.
Yeah, as a DBD Killer, New Freddy is more boring to play, is more generic, while Old Freddy required a more unique approach, so I can understand preferring old Freddy in that regard, but he wasn’t good, nor he was more faithful to the character.

I think the best would be an in-between old and new.
A big issue with him in general is that a lot of survivors (at least those that do complain the loudest) are unwilling to change their playstyle to account for unique mechanics (see 'popping gens against pig' for more details).
New freddy has the issue that a lot of his counterplay is rather disadvantageous to survivors withou much to balance it, and the mixture of that and the above give him the high killrate.

Freddy's rework truly is a sad tale.
I remember my first match on that day. I was not excited at all, because I was never supportive of his rework in the first place, but decided to give it a shot because he is my favourite killer. Managed to get Old Lery's (which was my favourite map, btw) and everything just felt... wrong.
I may be one of the few Old Freddy mains who didn't drop him after the rework, but honestly I would do anything to get my old killer back.

I agree completely with the video. Instead of keeping any personality old Freddy had, they basically just gave him everything. Some stealth, some anti-loop, some map pressure with the teleporting, some slow-down, etc. Was incredibly lazy and only looking at how to make him viable, but now they're nerfing him, so what was the point?

What was the point? Well, there wasn't one.
Old Freddy never required a full rework to begin with. It doesn't take much to understand that he only needed a few buffs and QoL improvements, yet the devs completely ruined his identity by giving him a generic power.

Agreed. Especially disappointing for the DBD nightmare fans. Current Freddy’s power almost has nothing to do with the films/lore other than falling asleep which isn’t very important now.

I still maintain that a lot of blame is at how the community gives feedback paired with how devs look at stats.
Like, a lot of loud parts of the community seem dreadfully focused on winning quickly with the bare minimum (on both sides), so of course the feedback there is... near useless. They are also the same people that will smack down better feedback if said suggestions would require doing a iota more than the bare minimum.
Pair that with how devs seem so focused on easily manipulated stats, and wow that's a recipe for disaster.

That is exactly what happened to Freddy merely a week after his release, because people with less than 10 hours of gameplay were spamming negative reviews. Those players, who clearly shouldn't review a game which they've barely played, are to blame for his initial nerf, along with the devs obviously.
As for his rework, well... That is the actual disaster.

aye. and it's something that goes for other killers too. look how people DEMAND deathslinger gets the same windup as huntress, demo or PH, ignoring that those three have something that balance out missing, while deathslinger has nothing to make up for a missed shot with limited range.
Personally I think freddy would be more intersting to play and play against if they'd bring back the dream world restrictions, but give him something like plague's ability to get people to wall asleep. like, that you can trap gens etc and people would 'get tired' similar to plagues infection. plus give people an exhaustion thing in his matches to get them to fall asleep so people would have to manage what they are doing. running, concentrating etc would all drain it, more rapidly if you are 'drained'.
something like that.
Would it make the matches longer? yeah, but more interesting too.

Indeed. Some people just want easy victory, regardless if the other side is gutted or not.
As for Freddy, I also have my own idea for another rework, which is basically his old power with a few tweaks + Dream Projection.
