Pinebrook QaA
Alright I'm doing a QaA on my series, @Beelzeboop your up what's your first question
Comments
-
Do you have anyone else on your staff, or is it just you?
2 -
Just me, sadly, although QwQw did edit some of the pages for me but school got in the way, which I fully understand. So yeah its technically only me
2 -
On a scale of one to ten, how helpful and/or have me and @QwQw been on the overall production of Pinebrook?
1 -
You called my good sir?
1 -
OH my god... I mean you have both been a 10/10. Beelze, you reminded me of what this series started as and I've actually would do something totally different id you didn't remind me of the psychological aspects of Pine brook. Qw You actually allowed me to bleed more character into Elliot and helped me with my... ######### grammar, but also added details I never thought I would add
2 -
I, too, can confirm that Beelze has been a big help. Not even with just Pinebrook, but also with some of my projects and in general as well.
1 -
Yeah, Beelze is amazing, and so are you. ALright Beelzeboop whats your next question
2 -
Since we're evidently being outright nice to each other instead of simply supportive, approachable, and helpful for minute, I would like to say a few things.
QwQw, when I joined the forums, I read your posts and immediately felt like this was a community that I wanted to join. You are, without a doubt, the forums' primary source of cool factor. Your casual demeanor and helpful nature bring a great deal of life to this Entity forsaken site.
Dabihwow, I first saw you when the Pinebrook Prologue thread appeared on the fifth page as I was browsing the forums, and I was hooked immediately. It was like a culmination of every concept I've been interested in for the past six years, and the fact that I could help out with such an awesome project is still an actual dream come true. Helping out with Pinebrook has been one of the main things keeping me going as of late.
And thank you both for the compliments. I really love feeling valued.
And now back to my standard persona, as I still have a question or two for Dabih.
What were some of your inspirations other than Silent Hills and Resident Evil?
2 -
Thx, I'm glad to have been a part of what helped you in the forums. Now onto the answers
So Pinebrook was also inspired by Outlast in terms of gore and ######### up ######### ( if you know what I mean). But also from Alice and wonderland, Stranger Things kinda, but also from my experiences with people
Now Pinebrook was actually based on a project I did a long time ago, it was an idea called A Mystery horror story. Where a serial killer wreaked havoc on the people and a group of youngsters rose to discover what or who was the killer. What was unique was that it went from town to town and not just one place the whole time. A lot of what happens in that story was cut from Pinebrook except... for one character, Furnace Head but he was named wasn't FurnaceHead from the beginning.
Sorry it took a while to think of a way to write this
2 -
Aw hell yeah brother, compliment party!
^This.
This is why you are one of the best people in the community. You are always kind, supportive, and willing to lend a hand, plus a little snarky ;)
And as for @Dabihwow, man, you've inspired me so much. Working on and reading Pinebrook has been a fantastic experience. You gave me a chance to indulge my love for Resident Evil 7, something that I've never been able to do before seeing as my family/friends don't like horror.
Thank you both so much, I'm not very good at accepting compliments, so all I can really manage to say is thank you.
2 -
Oh, it's fine. It's not like I refresh the page every ten seconds to see if you made a new post or anything.
When and where do you think the first book is gonna come out?
1 -
(Double post bug; please ignore)
1 -
I don't think any of us are very good at accepting complements. You're good, man.
1 -
Alright then, thanks man.
1 -
Well, That I'm not sure.. I want to get it done soon, but... I want to take my time with it, I always believed quality should always comes first no matter what. If you rush a project then your gonna get it done sure, but at the cost of the quality
2 -
Anymore questions?
2 -
Sure.
Could I help with illustrations?
I'd love to do the cover art.
2 -
Oh you are more then welcome In fact I wanted to make Pinebrooks title a lot different then using a common font
2 -
Had an idea for a Pinebrook title.
Just a simple concept.
Drew this at 3AM two days ago.
The reason it took so long was that, as I've mentioned, I don't have any sort of phone or camera of my own, so I have to get someone I know to take a picture and Email it to me. Didn't work out very well.

Oh...my...god... I love it, I absolutely love it. At first, I wanted to say something about the b but I can't I absolutely love it. Maybe have the unshadowed curve could be a bit longer but I love the attention to detail man. The r is good maybe the curved bit could be a tad longer. The only issue I have is the oo part, I see they are rings. Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely appreciate the work it's just the rings stick out like a sore thumb. Maybe you can do something else like a, I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, because I absolutely love what you did. Another thing is maybe having the letters not as slanted, but overall this was well-done man I would actually pay you money for this.
2 -
Holy hell, calm it down Picasso.
2 -
My original idea was for it all to be styled like the first three letters, but then I thought that I should do something that brings in elements of surrealism, so I decided to change up the lettering style.
Yeah, The "R" isn't the best. I based it off of a fire poker, but I didn't exactly have a reference at the time. I'll fix it in the next iteration of this design.
I didn't have many ideas for the "O"s, so I thought throwing in some rings could make it a bit interesting. I'm perfectly willing to change it to something that was actually thought out. It sounded like you had a suggestion there, but you kinda trailed off into frantic apologies.
Also, I'd like to remind you who you're apologizing to. It's only fair that if I can dish out criticism, I can take it.
The slanting wasn't intentional, I was just working on a soft surface.
2 -
Sorry I was typing that when I got called to help out my family and forgot what I was writing. So I would've suggested something like a stump but looking it from above if that makes sense or a decorative double oo like how the P and I are, or maybe make it a street light or like the other letters.. The 'e' is supposed to be glass yes? it is rather a nice touch, it feels a bit off. Maybe have it look similar to the other letters, and not make it glass but then again I barely noticed it.
U just want the logo/title of Pinebrook to be recognizable and easy to discern for something else and make it look nice, however, I like your way of thinking I just want the title to look good, and so far it is looking good, I just would like some changes
2 -
Oh ######### I forgot about @glitchboi sorry about that man
3 -
o hi, Thanks for mentioning me here, I don't think I saw this yet. I don't have any questions YET™, but who knows, I might have questions sometime.
2 -
Holy, that's really good.
2 -
Iteration two is on it's way.
Just waiting for the Email to arrive.
1 -
Take your time man
2 -
Absolutely not.
If your wondering about the awkward framing and lighting, it was my brother who took the picture. It was probably deliberate, but not malicious.
I was initially going to have chains draped over the 'Os," but as any artist can tell you, it's both tedious and difficult to draw them and not have them look like poorly drawn ropes.
I tried turning the "R" into a lamppost, and I tried giving the "B" a bark texture. With more detail visible, the "E" really does stand out when it's made of glass, so if you want I can definitively change it in the next iteration.
And yes, I know that the "K" looks too much like an "X."
Also,
I prefer Zdzisław Beksiński, thank you very much.
1 -
I didn't even know who Zdzisław Beksiński was. I looked him up and the guys got some pretty good artwork if I say so myself. If you're taking inspiration from him, I can see why your artwork is so damn good.
1 -
Yeah, he was a Polish artist who grew up during the second World War, which may explain a few things. In my opinion, he's one of the greats when it comes to art.
He didn't take inspiration from any other artists, instead painting his own nightmares while listening to rock and roll and classical music, sometimes both at once. The result is the primary inspiration for what we like to call "heavy metal album cover art."
One thing he was particularly known for was describing how he painted as "photographing dreams," which meant that he was looking at the "source" like a photographer would as opposed to how a painter would. In the end, he was a photographer more than a painter in many ways.
He actually started his career as an architect, but then he started taking photos of seemingly random things. His photos were the exact reverse of the current art movement, which could be summed up as "pictures of how things are, not how we imagine them or want them to be." All of his photos were clearly, blatantly staged, which somehow added to the uncanny effect. Look up his "Sadist's Corset" photo if you're up for it.
He died on Febuary 21, 2005, when his landlord's son stabbed him because Zdzisław wouldn't lend the kid $100.
He was a very friendly person, from what I've read. He was the primary inspiration of H.R. Geiger, the guy who designed the Xenomorph.
Sorry for the history lesson, I'm just eager to share (read, infodump) with anyone who'll listen.
1 -
No no it's fine. I find artwork that is willing to express the darker side of things to be very fascinating. That's probably why I like horror so much; because it expresses what we humans don't want to look at - and yet we're drawn to it.
1 -
Sorry its just been a hectic day here in high school. Honestly this looks a lot better, well done, I like the art style reminded me of tim burton's for a bit. My only question what is the black part of the k if you don't mind me asking
1 -
My idea was that it was just normal ink-on-paper lettering.
There was no real reason behind it other than it seemed a bit surreal.
1 -
Ah I see, I don't mind but at first it felt out of place kinda
