Now is a perfect time to switch on MMR!
With the rank reset bug, everyone is rank 20. Unfortunately real rank 20 killers are going to have a rough time against all the flashlight-clicking, former red rank comms teams. Not to mention the four default console Dwight solo players who suddenly have to face a former rank 1 PC Nurse main.
So why not switch MMR on? It isn't perfect but now there is no reason not to!
(Edit: I mean as a third testing phase, until the ranks are sorted out)

yeah please. do an impromptu MMR test. perfect cover story! and our games won't be awful!
1 -
There's a big reason not to, if true: it's not ready yet.
Or, plot twist, they already turned it on, which is why everyone went to rank 20.
3 -
But nothing changed for killers.
Rank 17 killers already faced red rank survivors before the rank reset.
But yeah, they could turn it on.
3 -
Maybe we've all been reset to where the MMR thinks we belong.
In which case, ouch.
2 -
I didn't get back to rank 20. 🤷🏻♀️ But I was wondering if MMR was finally on. I wish it was.
0 -
MMR was a disaster both times it was turned on, i would prefer it not happen again
1 -
Yes please.
MMR will never work properly without a real test, that avoids players preconceptions about rank. No "oh I'm a red rank and it put me against greens MMR doesn't work!" when that's precisely what MMR isn't taking into account.
3 -
What disaster? It was perfectly fine during the 24h test.
5 -
my rank has not changed.
0 -
Actually, with the rank reset bug I'm still rank 1.
0 -
New Flash, MMR has been turned on for a while. I've been keeping track of my survives vs kills in games and it's radically changed a couple days after the Devs originally said they turned it off. It's been on for a while now.

You might have some long lobby times then! You should start searching for a lobby then go to bed. Hopefully in the morning you will have a lobby after everyone else has had time to rank up.
0 -
He had harder matches. And thats just unacceptable. /s
4 -
Yeah, I still need to practice against bots, rank 20 is clearly way too high for me.
0 -
I agree!
I am so desperate for a working MMR so im up for more testing if its necessary.
0 -
Oh dear.
No, it's not turned on, any time other than when they say they're testing it.
MMR does this thing, where individual killers each have their own hidden 'rank' based on how much you've used them, and how well you've played (how that's determined however is still a secret).
What this means is, if MMR is on, when you play a killer for the first time, you will only go against rank 20-17s, even if it takes 30 minutes to find them, because you have the lowest possible MMR on that killer. This makes it very easy to test if MMR is on. Play a killer you've never played before.
No amount of tracking the ranks of people you go against, or whether you survive or kill, will give you ANY indication as to whether MMR is on, because of how janky the current Rank based matchmaking is anyway.

I cannot tell if you sincerely think that MMR worked well or are trolling
0 -
Worked well for me and many others.
1 -
The last MMR test worked brilliantly for a lot of people. Including me. Whether that means a majority of players or not is still in the hands of the devs, we don't know. But there were enough testimonies on these forums at the time to indicate that it could conceivably mean it worked well for the majority of players. It could honestly be either way, but I'm sure there's still some thing they need to sort out with it, after all if it works well for 55% of players and abysmally for 45%, that's not really good enough.
Your personal anecdote isn't representative of all players.
2 -
They could turn it on, but for some reason I expect it not to work properly.

Ranks dont get used for MMR.
0 -
I'm pretty sure it was a joke. At least my reply to that comment was.
0 -
I know. It was a self-deprecating joke.
1 -
I did not have a rank reset bug, at least not back to rank 20. On killer, I was reset to 8, where as survivor to 7, although i was rank 1 killer and rank 4 survovr before the reset. strange
0 -
Wish i had your experiences, cause when i played with MMR i got survs and killers way more skilled then i am and had to sweat bullets all for nothing because i'm playing Demo and not Spirit or Nurse and not running 4 second chances every match
I said it once and i will say it again, MMR is not going to work with DBD, too many factors that the game has to take into account and even if it by some miracle works it'll just be SWF with 16 second chances and Nurse, Spirit and, Freddy with quad slowdown constantly
0 -
I got reset to rank 9 from rank 1.
0 -
Once again, your experience doesn't represent all players.
You cannot make the absolute conclusion that "MMR can't ever possibly work for DBD."
The current Rank based matchmaking doesn't work either. Something has to change.
2 -
I had a similar experience as you, I lost nearly all my games when MMR was on (0 or 1 kills).
Before and after the MMR, everything felt fair. I didn't try survivor though. I am hopeful that a third test might actually adjust according to perfomance, because it certainly didn't do that last time.

So why not improve the current system rather then scrap it entirely for something that is infinitely more complex? Especially a system that would result in even sweatier games at the higher ranks?
0 -
At first, I got killers who were easy to beat and potato survivors, then they became increasingly more skilled until they more or less "plateaued" and I felt they were more or less on my level (some, I felt, were slightly worse than me, but not by much).
0 -
Can someone explain to me why the ranks get reset anyway? What good does it do, aside from hide the fact that some really good players now have a false representation of their skill, and are paired with people who are worse than they are? What's the upside? I'm sure there's a reason but I'm still kind of new, I'd love to understand why resetting rank is even a thing.

There's absolutely nothing fair about green rank killers going against squads of red rank SWFs, or about playing an 'easy' killer like Spirit, catapulting you to purple ranks long before you should be anywhere near them, and then getting locked in to permanent red rank survivors no matter what killer you play.
When MMR was on, my rank 6 Spirit went against green-purple ranks, and games felt fair. I then jumped on Bubba for the first time, and went against greys, then browns, then yellows, as I learned how to play him. It was wonderful.
No extremes of 0K 5 minute games where everyone teabags and clicks at the exit gates, or 4Ks at 5 gens where nobody has the guts to go in for a rescue. It was a fair fight nearly every match.

That would likely involve adding way more ranks, like, 100+, and then making far more complex conditions for ranking up. Likely requiring more than 5 pips per rank, and having some conditions that give you way more then 5 pips and some that take away more than 1 at a time.
But most of all, it would involve giving each killer their own rank, and then somehow attaching a multiplier to that rank based on your player level, but only based on how much you've played killer specifically.
That sounds far more complex, and would likely lead to some strange bloodpoint rewards.

MMR is an improvement over the current system. It's taking multiple factors into account to determine something that can approximately be called the "skill" of an individual player (with a certain character, in the case of the survivors), as opposed to just looking at what they did in a given trial and deciding whether or not to rank them up.
The problem is that rank is not a good reflection of skill. MMR aims to fix that by expanding how rank is determined in the first place, thereby approximating it to skill. The fact that the system is called something else doesn't mean it's that different. It's the same system, just taking into account more metrics than just what you did in 4 categories.
1 -
Which is what MMR aims to do in the first place. MMR is not wholly different from the rank system, it just takes more variables into account and has many more possible ranks.
0 -
I see your point but can you understand my problems with the system?, the first time it was turned on was, well, something else, and the 2nd time i quit after 5 games because the games stopped being fun and started getting rage-inducing
If MMR works well, great, but i am remaining sceptical until matches can be a good mix of fun and fair
0 -
If it works the way it's supposed to, then it'll be as "fun" as you make it, because it will essentially match you with people who play the same way you do.
The more you play to win, the more you'll be matched with people who do the same, since you'll have similar performance in many of the metrics. The more you just ######### around, the more you'll be matched with people who do the same, for the same reason.
Without knowing more specifics about why trials "stopped being fun" and "started getting rage-inducing" for you, that's all I can say.
0 -
Oh, alright.
Sorry then.
0 -
the specifics are "matches ended in 5 minutes because each of the survivors were either way better then i am or had a ton of 2nd chances" and "matches ended in 2 minutes because my teammates had absolutely no idea what they were doing"
You know, normal things DBD players complain about, multiplied by about 5, was probably the most miserable DBD session i've had
0 -
I got perfectly fine matches. Both as survivor and killer.
Judging form the other comments, i´m not the only one.
1 -
again, wish i had that experience
I REALLY wish i did
0 -
I really wished that they turn the mmr on.
Maybe the mmr didn´t have enough data on you.

Hmm. You could be right. I understand the sense of accomplishment but to be honest it seems like the system, as designed, causes more harm than good. Someone in another thread about the ranks resetting even made the comment that he went from red tier to rank 20 but "oh well, I'll just have fun slaughtering baby rank 20 survivors" or something to that effect. Nothing against that player, he has every right to play how he normally would. But the ranking system has now made it tremendously unfair to any new players who legit SHOULD be at rank 20 because they're only just starting out.
It's such a weird concept to me: Resetting everyone's rank to numbers that they shouldn't be at. I don't really get it.
0 -
Yeah last time this happened I went to rank 20, don't recall what my rank was at the time. I just assumed that this meant on the 13th of every month EVERYONE went back to rank 20. So I guess it isn't quite as bad as I thought but it still seems completely arbitrary. In my view the ranks should accurately represent the skill of the player, as gauged by their escapes or kills (which they don't), and that they shouldn't be artificially reset by the game itself for any reason. If someone is good enough to be rank 1 and the game hides this by just giving them a rank that isn't equal to that skill level, it's doing nothing but tricking the people who play a game with that person. At the end of the day if ranks aren't accurate to the player who has them, then what's the point of having ranks at all?
And since the ranks are all over the place anyway (I've had 13 point discrepancies in my games before) it doesn't seem like they work all that well to begin with. Then again I suppose this isn't news, lol.
0 -
You make good points. I still think that a success-based ranking system would be better than what we have now, but it would still be imperfect, yes. I myself consider "success" to be an escape for survs and a sacrifice for killers, yes, but you're right that if this is how the rankings were dictated it would bring up a different crop of problems.
I tend to forget that the game isn't strictly competitive and based more on fun that "winning" because while I play it casually (meaning for fun, not wins) SO many others seem to want it to be an obnoxious Fortnite-style esport game, which I would despise. So how DOES one fairly rank players and group them together with others of similar skill? Maybe an invisible point system in which all successful plays (repaired gens, sacrifices, destroyed pallets, successful unhooks, etc.) are given an equal amount of points and those points are kept track of so that the people who "achieve" the most are matched with people who have accomplished just as many things?
Hard to say. There really is a lot to consider and a matchmaking system in a game like this IS tricky business.

Ah no reason to thank me, discussion is good! :)
0 -
still rank 2
taking that as a sign of something, but i'm not sure what
0 -
I say DO IT!
Turn that MMR on.
has to be easier then trying to change everyone's Rank to were it was suppose to be.
0 -
This is going to sound insulting, even though it's not intended to, so I apologize in advance.
My guess is that because the current ranking system doesn't work properly, there are too many players who've been boosted to ranks they shouldn't be in and have a higher performance in those ranks than they should have because they go up against other boosted players. Thus, your MMR is inflated, because if the current ranking system were truly indicative of skill, neither you nor the survivors you're facing would be at your current ranks.
0 -
honestly not sure why that disclaimer is there, everyone knows that getting to high ranks is stupid easy right now, so the fact that my MMR would be inflated if it was on right now honestly doesn't surprise me, especially given that a good chunk of my matches i win because at least 2 of the survivors absolutely shouldn't have been paired with me
I really do hope MMR does work, but, like i said, my personal experiences have led me to be rather against it until i can play the fully implemented system and know it works as it should
