Counterplaying New Wraith?

Hello! I've lately been struggling to play against this newer version of Wraith. Not saying he's op or anything, but if anyone could give some tips on counterplaying him that would be highly appreciated!

He's probably gonna get free first hits no matter what you do, it is what his kit allows. The best thing to do is be aware of where you are and make sure you know safe tiles to go to after getting hit. When facing a Wraith, if possible it's best to get the deadzone gens out of the way as quickly early on so you're not stuck in the end trying to fix the last few gens with no resources left or around.

If you're healthy, he's not really threating at all so do your best to not give him any free hits. In terms of basic looping, he's very mediocre and quite easy to outplay if you understand how he works.

Basically, do unsafe gens where you can't get good LOS first so that your team doesn't sruggle later on when there are less pallets to stop him. In terms of looping, abuse windows when he's cloaked and if needed just throw pallets in his face as he can't do anything about it besides eating them.

He is just old Wraith but more speedy, so the counterplay is the same.

Positioning, exhaustion perks, and pallets when used correctly can counter most killers including Wraith. This is also under the assumption that he is not using the silent clapper.

Positioning: If he is on you and still cloaked but you are around a safe area, make sure you keep moving in a way that forces him to uncloak and not get the hit quickly. For example let's say you are on the cow tree on the coldwind farm and he is right behind you ready to uncloak, vault the window. If he continues to chase you while cloaked, he will never get the hit as long as you keep your distance and your eye on him. If he uncloaks, then just loop normally since he can't do anything.

Exhaustion perks: Dead hard, lithe, SB, adrenaline, and smash hit are all good perks that can really screw Wraith over. Dead hard in particular really screws him over. These aren't necessarily a counter, just perks that make it really hard for a Wraith to get the initial hits at times. All of them help deprive the Wraith of getting a hit which is pretty crippling at times.

Pallets: If the Wraith starts to get hits on multiple survivors, consider pre dropping pallets instead of risking taking a hit. This will stop his momentum and likely force a good Wraith to just leave while you return to working on a generator.

I hate the fact that I have bad eyesight and it's pretty much a disadvantage for me to play against this specific killer, my friend can see him coming from far away and evade him pretty easy but I can't, not at least until he is de-cloaking right in front of me.

Yeah, the one tactic no wraith player employs, like, ever to counter a perk they're not sure exists in the game or not and can completely screw you over by making you miss key information. Amazing.

Same way as you always have. Always keep an eye out and use strong windows to disrupt his power. He’s just a much better version than his former self, the counterplay is still the same.

Turn your volume up. I know this sounds like I’m being dismissive, but I’m not. I don’t always see him, but I find that more often than not I hear him snorting (?) before he pops in, which gives me a few extra seconds to get some distance between us.

A lot of experienced wraiths try to spend as much time as possible in cloak and using the uncloak speed boost to hit you in loops

Sometimes pre-dropping a pallet or leaving a loop through a window is the best idea. Alternatively, you could try counter looping him to mitigate the speed-boost but it's risky

Stay healthy. Being injured and being found by a cloaked Wraith is pretty much a death sentence unless there's a pallet or window nearby, and even then the super lunge can still get you if you're not careful.

Stay alert. Although you can't see Wraith from five miles away anymore, you can still see him from 20m away and can hear his footsteps and snarls. You can also guess where he's going to come from in most instances based on where he was last.

Stay calm. Don't panic when he's uncloaking, keep a level head and think about the best move to do during the window of safety. Most of the time, Wraith players try to mindgame with the super lunge at loops by facing one way while uncloaking, and then going the other way around the loop to catch you out. You can use this knowledge to predict the Wraith's mindgame and make him look silly by running towards where he's pretending to go, in turn outrunning his actual lunge. Keep in mind this probably won't work at very short loops, and he may switch it up once he knows you're smart.

Never drop pallets while Wraith is cloaked unless you are 100% sure you can get a stun. It's just needlessly wasting pallets, and you NEED to keep pallets up against a Wraith in order to not get ambushed and downed. Also, conserve pallets near generators - a Wraith is very deadly when you're repairing a generator without a pallet nearby, and he'll try to get these out of the way early.

Of course, the best way to learn to counter Wraith is to play him and watch others play him. You'll learn how a Wraith thinks and how he plays, and you can use this in your games to predict what he's going to do.

You're gonna get hit the first time that's inevitable. Then Wraith looses his element of surprise against you and you can use that info to properly place yourself next to good windows and pallets where Wraith's lunge is weak.

Not offhand. It’s fairly close, but I generally hear it at least a few seconds before he starts to reappear.
