Countering Spirit (Perkless)
What are some good gameplay counters to Spirit? I don't run into her enough to justify always keeping one or two of my perk slots reserved for her. I just want to understand her gameplay a bit more.
I've been away for a long while. It used to be to counter Spirit you didn't run and you always kept moving unless you were on a gen.
Now I'm really not sure what Spirit counterplay looks like. The three Spirits I've gone against ended the match in under six minutes and always seemed to know where everyone was. In the last game two Survivors were dead and one was downed on the other corner of the map (Estate, so it was a ways away). I stopped working on the gen and began to slowly walk that way and within 10-15 seconds she phase walked right behind me and downed me.
If anyone can shed some light on the new Spirit gameplay that would be very appreciated!
** I am not calling Spirit OP/broken and I'm not trying to start a balance bashing thread. I'd appreciate genuine help and positivity, please! 😊**

She doesn't have counterplay unfortunately, but you can do a few things to make it harder for the average spirit to catch you such as slow vaulting pallets or windows, crouching, and walking when she is phasing (if you are not making noise).

First you need to understand how Spirit thinks, and the best way to do this is by playing her.
1. If she's not phasing throw the pallet down. This will force her to either brake the pallet, or determine if the loop is mindgameable to her standards. If she breaks the pallet "leave". If she doesn't count to 3, and walk in one direction. If you don't get hit than shes fake phasing and you need to run/walk in the opposite direction.
2. If she's phasing than you need to scramble your sounds. Run in a circle to scramble your scratch marks and sounds. Double back over your scratch marks. Fast vault than slow vault back.
3. Be unpredictable! Most of the times spirit will see scratch marks leading to a safe area which is when spirit will be like. "Well those scratch marks are going towards the shack and the window is right there"

We can't enlighten you, because there is nothing to her counterplay, it's just random guessing when she stands still, while at the same time she knows exactly what you're doing and where you are. The only thing you have is breaking LoS, then moving slowly in a random direction when you're not injured to minimise your breathing sounds. If you're injured, you need iron will and THEN you have to pray she doesn't have stridor. That's it.

Not really a whole lot you can do.
But a good tip is to learn how fast they are in their phase and mentally time when they'd get to you. It can help you make the right guess if you just get to a window or pallet, or if you can vault to a place they can't phase to in time.
Also-- quickly try to figure out if it's a 'clever' spirit or a clever spirit. A 'clever' spirit will always try to hit you from the opposite side of the window/pallet you just got to in an attempt to catch you on the back foot, and is pretty easy to predict.
A clever spirit, though.. hope your luck's good.

I wish i would help you as Kate main but i can not. Because Spirit has not counterplay.
- If she is noob, you can loop her. And you can bait her with fake voices. She will turn standart m1 killer.
- If she is not noob, good luck. Just suicide on first hook and go for next game.

She has counterplay, but chases are to her advantage
Awareness and avoidance come first, use any perks you like but keeping her searching is far more valuable than trying to keep her occupied in chase. Spine chill always works for approach and alert can help telegraph her direction.
Positioning is vital if your going to linger on a gen long enough to be found or ignore signs of her approach. Los breakers, windows, and multi segment loops are your best environmental tools for utilizing her visual weakness to your advantage. Fixated can help in play and for practice
Factoring both above; try to remain healthy as injury grants her access to stridor which improves the accuracy of her power. Use loops to overlap scratch marks and break away into los breakers, place as much distance between you to minimize audio tracking.
If the killer player is to difficult to escape, use window loops and DO NOT pallet camp. Use a pallet and move on, don't give her a chance to apply mind games in hopes of using gimmicks for a day one spirit.

If she's coming in from a distance, her phasing noise is directional, so that can be used to assertain where she is.
Other than that, the suggestions about unpredictability is the best way to confuse her and outplay her.

TLDR for above tips and tricks:
Try to be unpredictable, and pray she's bad enough to fall for it. At best, it's a gamble whether or not you made the right decision - at worst, you don't have a chance because there's not really any counter-play.
Also the phasing is non-directional, and can be confirmed on the wiki:

Stealth. If she finds you, try to run to a god pallet/window. Those are the only real 50/50s if she's tracking via sound. Rush the gens. If you see someone getting injured, then spam fast vaults away from her to cover the sounds of your teammate.
That's it. There are other tips, but those imply that the Spirit is trying to predict rather than track, which is incorrect for her.

Pallets and windows work against her.

ngl i hate how the replies range from "she has no counterplay" to "simply play her yourself for 500 hours and then read the spirit player's mind, it's easy"
please just copy a daughter from RE8 and make her turn into bugs thanks

I don't have Spirit so I can't play as her so I've come to this thread again! Youtube videos unfortunately are so full of talking and music that they aren't very helpful.
What noises does Spirit hear when she's in her fade walk? I know running is the big one.
Does she hear...
Gens?
Totem cleansing?
Healing?
Is it basically any noise? I just went against her and I tried standing entirely still each time I heard the audio cue that she was walking and she found me each time. I wasn't near operating gens, in fact I was hunting her Devour Hope totem. 🤔 Thank you anyone in advance I'm just really struggling with Spirit in a way I never have before.
* Again, not calling her OP or asking for nerfs or anything, I'm simply trying to understand gameplay counters rather than perks.

She hears everything as normal.
She can't see the survivors themselves, and if she has the mother daughter ring, she can't see scratch marks as well.

Spirit's phasing is limited in duration and she can't go through walls. Safe windows and pallets can completely stop her from catching up to you in a phase. If a spirit stops moving after you, good chance she is phasing.
Plenty of maps have ambient sounds that can help hide your own sounds. Gens are on every map and repaired gens are fairly loud too. Crouching also helps reduce your grunts of pain. These can help you lose a spirit if you don't have any tiles to use.
Scratch marks do have a bit of a delay due to dedicated servers and sounds can be a bit wonky when you are on the same location as a spirit, so running back and veering off in a different direction can confuse a spirit long enough for you to get away. Although this is pretty risky since you are running back towards the spirit.
It's pretty tricky to counter to spirit, because unlike other killers it's very hard to judge when she starts to phase, how long she can phase for, and how fast she moves in a phase. With duration and speed addons she can make around it walls that would otherwise provide safety from the spirit. You generally just want to try to keep distance and find ways to make it harder for her to track you.

Are there any add-ons that would assist her in finding a non-injured Survivor who hasn't been running and is just crouched in a really obscure spot. One of the times I was on top of the (tractor?) in Coldwind because I was totem hunting. And she appeared right there and downed me. It could have definitely just been bad luck.

I think it's telling that you will either get hit at that pallet or nothing happens....Man....Such counterplay XD
