What does Contamination even do?

I know that when you first apply it to a survivor it will increase your own infection rate but after that it looks like it doesn't really do anything. And since every fresh application boosts the killers power, vaccines just seem like a noob trap.

Does it increase Zombie aggro? That would maybe encourage a vaccine.

    the tentacle can injure and down you when you are contaminated.

    You also vomit and are loud (which is kinda a counter to Iron Will)

    Zombies can injure you if you are infected. If not, they just infect you.
