Dead by Daylight logo rework on Steam
So, it might be me. Maybe I'm just trippin' balls, god knows what. But did the frickin' Dead by Daylight logo change?
okay nvm i swear its not just me, i checked on wayback machine
So here's what it was before the anniversary stream:
And here's what it is now:
I'm gonna be honest, I'm not a big fan of this change. They joined in on the oversimplification trend. Who knows though, maybe it's just for the Steam page? I do like the simplified icon at the right, could be used for the game icon, but the old one should definitely stay for the loading screen and most of the game.
I'm gonna assume the new one is just a placeholder before they update Trapper's render to his updated model, and also considering the background is a bit blurry compared to the first image.
Seems like they also changed the game's logo on the overview image, so that's interesting.
What do you think about the logo change? Personally I'm not a fan of that font, but meh, the icon is kinda nice.

That doesn't look good at all.

I agree, I hope it's subject to change (which is very unlikely).

Someone needs to tell BHVR to stop changing every single damn thing they come across.
Just because you can change something, doesn't mean that you should.

I like it. Looks stylistically similar to the logos the Evil Dead and Scream franchises have.
It fits. Much more pleasing to look at and creative than the original logo, which looked like it was basic Arial Narrow.

I guess death is an escape now...
Why remove the tagline???

First thought it was a rocket league font.

I'm not gonna lie, The logo change looks pretty bad.

Yeah its not good at all

They probably choose bold font to make it more recognisable on thumbnails.
I think it's fine and we just need to get used to it. I doubt you all would be upset if this font was there from 2016.

the 4 skulled fingers almost looking like they're stuck on a pike and then the strikethrough for the killer is one of the smartest graphic design elements i've seen and i constantly praise it as being such impeccably good imagery for what the game is conveying as its core concept
and now it's gone so i guess that's that
gotta get in on that corporate blandification. god forbid logos convey something any more. smoothen it all. push trapper to the left some more so that his arm is uncomfortably close to the edge of the image, that's definitely going to improve this picture and not worsen it in any way.
did they get a new graphic designer? did someone decide to "modernise" this? because it's objectively a downgrade.

I think it's like this to look similar to how the Resident Evil titles look. If that is the case, the new look is probably temporary.

Looks alright...
The text on the old logo didn't really work for me, there was just something kinda off about it.
The new text, I like; but what have they done to the skulls!?
I thought that part of the main logo really represented the whole asymmetrical horror experience so well... :( Hoping that part isn't a permanent change.
Like, I understand that in general, logo's need to be a bit understated and simplistic to work and to convey the brand effectively.
But taking away the skulls there was probably a step in the wrong direction.
Everything else, I kind of like; but the skulls need to stay for it to work for me.

The text looks fine but I’m not sure why they changed the tally mark. It looked fine before

People are saying the logo itself changed in shape. It hasn’t, it’s just a solid white now, as opposed to being smears.
As for my opinion...not a fan.

I like that the image is a bit higher contrast and that the text is larger and bolder. Makes sense from a branding perspective to have the name of your game be front and centre and stand out more.
I preferred the old logo with the skulls more, though.

People saying it's "bad" don't understand the logistics of a good logo design.
This is leagues better than it was.

Old one obviously looks better and Tells us that it's a horror game, And not a PVP game

But there is a difference between knowing what does a good logo and what we like.
I think I'm super biased: I like changes. I like fresh start. So, I immediately liked the new logo because... it's new. OK, not only because it's new, but it's one of the factors which makes me like it.
Some people don't like changes, and the simple fact it was changed altered their judgement. Like the fact it's new altered mine.
If I try to think out of my comfort zone, I'd say it's alright. The name of the game is big enough to be read from away, the logo is still recognizable... Nothing fancy nor unique, so it's simply alright.
(If you have something to add about the design, I'd like to read about it. I'm no graphic designer but I'm super interested.)

The logo isn't about "what you like" as a consumer. That's not why logos exist. Logos exist for exposure, readability, and brand recognition. Something the new design is leaps and bounds ahead of the old one in.
