Changes to Iron Will

Before we begin let me just say that I'm not asking for Iron Will to get a nerf, I just want to point out something I find interesting. Most of the survivor perks that reduce grunts all have some sort of time limit and/or activate during specific conditions. Ex:

  • Off The Record only works when you are unhooked and lasts for a period of time.
  • Bite The Bullet only works when healing yourself or a survivor.
  • Self-Preservation only works when a survivor gets hit within 16 meters and lasts for a short duration

Iron Will is the only perk that reduces grunts fully with no condition and lasts indefinitely. Almost all of the time, Iron Will overshadows all of these perks because it does it's job more effectively. Do you think that Iron Will should be changed so that it matches with the other perks?

Here are some ideas that I came up with.

  • Idea 1: Keep the 100% reduction but make it like Lucky Break where it lasts for a long period of time but once that time runs out, it becomes inactive
  • Idea 2: Keep the forever affect but reduce the reduction of grunts. (idk what percentage I would reduce it too to make it still strong but not too weak....50%? 75%?)

(Also note that I excluded No Mither because even though it does have a condition for it to be activated, it only reduces grunts by 50% and not fully like the other perks.)

Let me know your thoughts on this!

    Only Off the Record and Self-Preservation have additional effects. I don't believe Bite The Bullet does (unless I'm wrong then please correct me.) But again, I was talking more along the lines of the reduction of grunts than the other effects. As for NOED and Iron Maiden they kinda are similar since they both activate when a condition is met and the both only last for a duration of the match (and NOED might not even be active if totems are cleansed early on) But I do get what you mean. Do you not think that Iron Will needs to be changed then?

    Bite The Bullet also completely removes the healing animation sounds - something Iron Will doesn’t.

    Or keep it forever but replace grunts of pain with breathing slightly louder than healthy breathing.

    Currently Iron Will make injured survivors absolutely silent. This is completely unfair.

    I like both ideas as they seem appropriate.

    Another idea I can suggest is to keep survivors' regular breathing.

    In the live version, their regular breathing is completely replaced by grunts while the survivors are injured. Therefore, Iron Will will mute all the sounds from their mouths.

    as much as I'd like to agree with this, Ash and Jeff are that damn loud that there uninjured noise is louder than a lot of survivors regular breathing, so iron will is a necessity on them... you almost end up relieved to be injured.

    The only change that needs to be made to Iron Will is just to make it so survivors still, you know, breath, when they have it on.

    Is there a chance it can be buffed to silence coughing too? It’s pretty unfair that Plague already completely negates any healing perks and counters Iron Will with just her power.

    Actually I think Iron Will could use a small nerf like you suggested (yes they are nerfs).

    it is one of the Meta perks and will always overshadow those conditional perks you mentioned.

    This would make Stridor even more of an annoyance than it already is.

    The grunts that the spirit can hear are reduced by 50% (75%?) during her phase walk.

    Just as Iron Will has a little nerf potential, I think the spirit should have such a nerf.

    i kid you not these killers just want easy kills lol you killer mains want to eliminate any top tier perk you can. y’all literally have strider and that counters iron will completely. Iron will ain’t even worth nothing till it’s tier 3. Let me help you..Devs how bout make iron will make sense since it sais grunts and pain are reduced by 100% at tier 3 when i’m in the dying state i should be mute as well. That should be the obvious change

    that’s what i’m saying if anything it needs the buff to have the same effect in the dying state with iron will tier 3 you should’ve be able to here a survivor in the dying state either

    My thought on Iron Will is that it should be an exhaustion perk. The trigger can be like dead hard, where you have to be injured first, and then you can activate it, and it gives you maybe 45 seconds of its effect, triggers the exhausted status for 45 seconds after the Iron Will effect wears off, then it can be used again.

    Personally though, I don’t really think it needs to be changed all that much. An alternative fix would just be that Iron Will afflicts you with the exhausted status as long as you use it.

    I think Iron Will is exactly where it needs to be. It only works once injured and can be countered by Stridor. It is only useful once you are more vulnerable to the killer anyway (down a health state) and if it is a massive problem, Stridor can be run to counter it, as I already mentioned.

    As for the other perks, they bring their own benefits. So aren't completely comparable to the likes of Iron Will. I think it's personal preference as to which one a player will use and prefer.

    That's true but I still do feel like people tend to think Iron Will is the better one out of all the options so they always run it. I also proposed the changes so that it would make less people use Stridor, I know how annoying it is as a survivor.

    I don't know if you are referring to me, but I am not a Killer main. I proposed the changes to make it more align with the other perks that reduce grunts and wanted to try to make it so that Stridor doesn't have to be used constantly against it. Also, your idea is already in effect as sometimes the audio will bug and make dying survivors not make any sound lol.

    I feel like making it give you exhaustion would be too much of a disadvantage. Plus it's not a speed perk so the status effect wouldn't make sense anyways.

    I don't think this is a good idea. Iron Will is a staple starter perk, that has an EXTREME HARD COUNTER with Stridor.

    You have to use more than just noises to find survivors. It's only really OP when it's paired with Lucky Break (especially old Lucky Break, and add like, Fixated or Urban to move faster without running and leave no blood). If you have are having consistent problems with Iron Will uses, run Stridor or a different information perk. It's been one of the least changed perks in the game, and I don't think anything warrants it to be changed again.

    Survivors with Iron Will also have a tendency to try and hide rather than move on, and blood can pile up real quick. You can use 2 senses in Dead By Daylight, use both of them. There are very few times where you won't be able to see AND hear a survivor who is injured and nearby, and if they are it's extremely limited due to Lucky Breaks timer. If you happen to find the person with Iron Will, they only need 1 hit to go down, so it's a very high risk high reward perk, which is a big reason it's popular.

    The point of it is that iron will is an immersion play, so if you are running it as a passive buff while playing non-immersive, (which is how i and most people use it) then it gives you big advantages.
