Should Shadowborn be base? Or an FoV slider for Killers?

I’m a console player, and I am absolutely addicted to Shadowborn. Most Killers, particularly of 4.4 m/s, feel extremely slow without this perk and Survivors who get up in your face often disappear.

I’ve also heard the idea of an FoV slider floating around, so I want to know what the community thinks of this idea.

It seems like something so basic is being taken out of our hands. Especially when many other ( HIGHLY COMPETITIVE ) games just give us a slider in the settings.

People keep bringing this up again and again, and answer dooesnt change. BHVR is not implementing FoV adjuustement not because they dont know how or they dont care. They do it because killers are supposed to have ######### FoV. This is why survivors can spin around you and why after fatigue/stun/recovery they can lose you easier. Its a hindrance, that you can mitigate with perks, like Shadowborn or M&A.

I’m asking for your opinion on the matter. Whether or not the devs care is determined by whether or not it’s in demand.

It shouldn't be base-kit, but we certainly need an FOV slider at this point. Shadowborn is a very outdated perk and it astonishes me that we haven't gotten a rework to that perk along with an FOV slider.

From what I remember shadowborn got nerfed waaaay back in the day because it increased visual brightness and had an even bigger FOV if I’m not mistaken.

No shadowborn should not be base kit nor an fov slider. It gives Nurses, Huntresses etc an edge on hitting hatchets and blinks more consistently. Even Billys run shadowborn to hit rev backs easier.

People who run shadowborn on all their builds are scared to run stretched resolution particularly on stream because they think they’ll get banned..

You can play on stretched resolution on console it’s just in 480p, I used this on my Nurse for a bit, it helps but I mean at a huge price of awful resolution..

If only killers had the option to have a fov slider that would be unfair to survivors and if both survivors and killers could have the option it would be unfair for killers who don’t like the fov slider adjusted from default at all because then trying to mindgame a good survivor on increased fov would be a nightmare..

Buy a PC and play on 1080x1080p.

Playing killer on console is just...awful in general anyways reguardless if there was a killer fov slider.. I couldn’t imagine ever going back to a controller after playing on M&K..

All in all I think playing ANY game on an increased FOV/resolution is cheating.. plain and simple.

Hope this helped whether you agree somewhat or fully agree.

The point of an having an FoV slider is so people don’t HAVE to stretch their screens, and so console players don’t HAVE to buy PCs (btw, don’t tell people to “just buy the game on PC” when it’s not that simple).

Yes, it gives the Killer an advantage. But as you said, people can use stretched res with or without the FoV slider anyway, including Survivors.

And either way, it’s hardly an advantage but more a quality of life thing so I can actually see my surroundings instead of looking through a binoculars all game.

I think there should definitely be a slider to give the equivalent of a 1x1 res advantage if the game engine doesn't allow them to fix stretched res. It's pretty dumb that I can set a custom monitor res, load up DbD, and immediately have an FOV that most of playerbase (console) can't access.

1920x1080p is like looking through binoculars? Interesting, You played a killer that elevated that much more with shadowborn and now you can’t play normally without it. That’s on you, just because YOU now are accustomed to a perk doesn’t mean BHVR needs to add a dumb slider bar. I’d rather see them remove stretched resolution before adding a Fov slider first.

again. Go buy a PC and play on 1080x1080p

Alright, alright. I won’t try to force my opinion onto you. Now, I shall go and buy an $800 gaming laptop and buy DbD on there, grind my way back to level 700 and take full advantage of that sweet, succulent stretched resolution that me and my console brethren couldn’t even dream of having no matter how bad we wanted it :)

    Sheesh. Cross-progression still isn't out? I can't imagine taking such a leap.

So what? Both sides should be able to have it. The price for making your gameplay be smoother is making it slightly harder as well. I think it's fair.

If there would be an FOV slider for killer there should be one for survivor too, survivors don't like the low FOV either.

I don't think it should be basekit because it if were, they'd do something to offset the advantage, like reducing the brightness of scratchmarks or audible cues/survivor sounds, or even making maps/survivor skins darker which would encourage stealth play. I'm not down with that at all.

I don’t know why all of a sudden people are thinking the Shadowborn gives you some nice distinct advantage. I only run this perk for comfort reasons. The base FOV is so pitiful that when I started using Shadowborn I just became addicted to using it. I feel sluggish and slow when I don’t run it which is why I run it on basically every killer.

it should just be an FOV slider with the max FOV being capped at Shadownborn’s current FOV (102°). We’re not asking for the FOV to be as wide as a lot of people’s stretched res. I don’t see the issue. As @Zenro stated, I never went into a match and said “sure am glad I brought Shadownborn” like I would a perk like PGTW. It’s not a game changer, just makes killer more comfy to play.

    It should be a slider.

FoV can be strong in certain scenarios you simply get to see more so spotting survivors would be easy and itll just bring a big advantage, and spotting distant crows would be way easier, it will only cause problems

That'd be nice if it was a slider.

While they're making Shadow Born actually do something, maybe they can take a look at Predator and maybe Bloodhound too.

"Shadowborn should not be base kit nor fov slider"

"Just use stretched res to give yourself an advantage"

Why not just put the slider in game so i don't have to borderline cheat to get the same effect?

FOV slider in a game that doesnt even have brightness setting? Keep dreaming

  • MarcoPoloYolo

It's not that significant. The difference is more camera movement and whipping it around. DBD is just bizarrely restrictive for no good reason and BHVR should grow out of this mentality. More FOV doesn't break the game. Can we at least agree that the FOV not matching the blind angles resulting in your vision being less than the canonical vision of the killer is stupid? Bear minimum, the FOV should match blind angles for consistency sake.

If they added an fov slider there'd be an absolute avalanche of screaming for a week about how people are gonna be able to get 12 hooks at 5 gens with burger king Myers every game because of their monster 15 degree pov and then you'd never hear a peep about it again after that

This. I play this perk because it feels good and better to play any killer but I never felt (maybe except on Nurse) like "wow glad that I picked this perk".

There are many perks that benefit killers more than increasing FoV, so Killer rather not picking Shadowborne. But having ShadowBorne as basekit is another story.

And once people have it, they will ask more. Why it should only stop at 102 but not 120? And so on.

FoV slider is pointless, everyone will just pick the highest option.

I would increase FoV to even larger to make it worth a perk slot, like 110 degree, or maybe even adding Survivors glowing (similar to Shape's stalking), make killer easily spot survivor in the dark (someone suggest Shadowborne should increase the brightness, but people can just increase their screen brightness anyway, so I find this idea is better)

But stretch rez isint bannable its just weird to have to run a perk in order to see and also how it miraculously f8sses fps drops on console

It's the same thing with iron will there's rare occasions where you think to yourself where wow that perk saved me it happens but not all the time

Think about how absolutely broken it would be to see someone crouching in front of you! Stealth would be completely useless against such an overpowered change! The balance of the game would be destroyed beyond repair!

  • Raptorrotas

Of course some players are gonna ask for more.thats normal. They love to bargain and beg.

I personally are against a slider. But we can raise the base FOV and remove it as variable from the game. Thats infinitely better than bandaiding it with a perk.

But survivors dont want killer issues be fixed in favor of keeping subpar perk solutions....

An FoV slider would be brilliant.

Im against fov slider. Not because i think its a bad idea. I think its needed. Im against it purely because my lack of confidence in some of the devs to implement this smoothly with no bugs, glitches, or hiccups. Fov slider? Now somehow the hill glitch is back.

  • fogdonkey
    fogdonkey Member Posts: 1,567

Sure, add a slider, but make 87 the max on the slider.

  • Trwth
    Trwth Member Posts: 921

Don’t be discouraged because of something like that. Besides, accessibility stuff like colorblind modes and HUD scaling (as far as I know) are glitchless. A little FoV change couldn’t possibly break the game.

    Why would…

Ohmygosh, are you one of those psychopaths who plays their game at 60 FoV??? How do you do that?! That’s like… torturing yourself!!
