Just Curious About the Ghostface Character
I'm just curious, has BHVR ever mentioned why they decided to create their own character to wield the Ghostface mantle instead of using one from the movies, like for example either Billy Loomis or Roman Bridger? Also curious cus say if it was a character from the movies we could've potentially had Sydney as the survivor.
Like I know Miramax ain't exactly easy to work with when it comes to the Scream license. Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights a few years back was supposed to have a haunted house based from the first movie. But something happened behind the scenes really really late, and I mean to the point where they literally they had a version of the commercial that had Ghostface in it, pulled from airing and even had the haunted house completed, and they had to scrap the entire thing and essentially just turned the house in to a weird version of the Purge. But you could tell going inside it that it was supposed to be Scream as when you look past some of the re-painting they did, it was very clearly scenes from the first movie.
But anyway I just didn't know if BHVR has commented on why they made their own character instead of using the ones from the movies. If whether it was an issue with the licensing or if maybe BHVR had an idea for a killer written down somewhere and figured that turning that concept in to Ghostface would actually work out better or what?

In the end licensing only the mask is a ton easier,also they have the freedom of making original cosmetics for him like the Blighted one,FunWorld seems easy to work with.

Honestly, I don’t blame them for choosing FunWorld. Easier to work with and like 80% of the playerbase doesn’t read the lore and thinks its GhostFace from scream anyway

That's fair enough, like I said I was curious if it was ever talked about in the past. Besides, I'm happy that I get the classic costume, so I can pretend to be one of the ones from the movie anyway lol.

They are typically under an NDA when they work with licenses so they almost never give any information about them. The only thing they've really said about working with licenses is that "some are easier to work with than others" and we can kind of guess which ones were cool and which ones weren't.

Nothing is real in the "Ghostface-Lore" from BHVR - totally new written.

Yep! Ghostface in the movies are all different people and are not related to the one in the game, story included.

Yep! In the movies that's how each Ghostface wiped off the blood from their knife in some scenes after stabbing someone.

Omg I actually forgot about the Ghostface from Scary Movie lolol.
Great now I want a mask cosmetic of this one from that movie. Just imagining his mori in the game with this dumb face when he does the selfie hahaha!

Ghost Face in DbD is half licensed, half OC. The fact that he is an original interpretation underneath the licensed Ghost Face mask allows much more freedom with designs, lore, and cosmetics. Can't wait for BHVR to include him in an Archives entry.
He does have subtle references to Scream's Ghost Face killers via weapon clean for example.

It’s a little irritating though how often it pops up things like “Where's Sidney?”, or “Where’s Gail?”, or “Why don’t we have Woodsborough?” because of how many players that don’t understand that this Ghostface has nothing to do with Scream.

Pretty much. It’s a figurative miracle that they were able to sort out the issues with Freddy.

Honestly it's a shame for us fans, we didn't get chapter from movies or tv series, but it is what it is. His base cosmetic is just a disaster IMO, thats why I need to rock his OG costume. But the thing that bothers me the most he doesn't have a different power, like the one with cell phones or something that would bring a unique and scary mechanic rather than just another stealthy killer.
