I Think Dead by Daylight Just Peaked
Dead by Daylight just got Resident Evil under its belt. That means a lot. Resident Evil fans are now coming over to Dead by Daylight, and with Resident Evil being one of the most popular horror franchises of all time, DbD will see its player numbers absolutely skyrocket. But with this I have a question. What now?
Resident Evil is one of three franchises that I personally think are the best for BHVR to do crossovers with. The other two being Alien, and Five Nights at Freddy's.
This is not a discussion about whether those franchises should or shouldn't come to DbD, this is simply me saying that these franchises will attract the most people. Sure, there are other franchises that would increase the player base (Left 4 Dead, Hellraiser, Friday the Thirteenth, and The Ring to name a few off the top of my head), but none that would leave an impact like Fnaf or Alien.
Personally, I think BHVR should include both of these franchises, not only because I am a huge fan of them, but Dead by Daylight needs the stimulation. With the release of The Binding of Kin and All-Kill, players were less than satisfied. The two killers, The Twins and The Trickster were disliked upon release and still disliked by alot of the community. The Twins featured a lot of bugs on release, as well as a lot of bugs mixed in with the game and other killers. They were also incredibly weak gameplay-wise and not all that fun. However BHVR got people back on track with the promotion of the new All-Kill chapter. The promotion was led across social media, and was incredibly different than anything they had done before. Many people caught on to the fact that the new chapter was going to be K-pop themed. I personally had nothing wrong with that, other games such as League of Legends tried this and it turned out profitable in the business area, and a fun, high quality product for the player base. However Dead by Daylight mishandled it. With the reveal of the Trickster, players were really disappointed. The hype of the promotion was let down by the poorly designed killer. The Trickster was not scary or intimidating. He was a K-Pop star covered in blood. There was so much missed potential with the idea of a K-pop horror villain. I thought that the killer might be some sort of modern day siren. With the promotion of the chapter being focused around a woman, and the teaser displaying that the chapter would of to do with music, I really thought that they may do a fun take on a mythological being like a siren. However, I was let down... by a lot. The trickster was not only boring in design, but just a straight out worse version of another killer.
So, that leads us to the player base being really angry at BHVR for making two horrible chapters in a row. So when Resident Evil was announced it brought a lot of people back into the game. But that leaves us right back to where we started. We are at the top of the mountain. We now have to climb down.
With the announcement of a Five Nights at Freddy's movie coming in the future, a lot of FNaF fans (such as myself) are super excited and hoping that DbD takes the opportunity to do a collab.
Alien is also just an iconic horror franchise that I feel Dead by Daylight has been lacking for a while. The Xenomorph would be a really interesting killer to come in to Dead by Daylight.
However, this leads to a problem for BHVR. These franchises are controversial. Five Nights at Freddy's is considered "Too childish" by some players, or the other glaring issue of not having an optimal survivor choice. There are several human characters in Five Nights at Freddy's, but none actually shown to us.
The Xenomorph is considered to be too powerful for Dead by Daylight (however with the release of nemesis I don't feel like that is a valid complaint anymore). There is also the fact that DbD has another alien-ish killer, with the Demogorgon. They are both killing machines with nothing else on their mind but to kill. They also both act and movie like predators.
Overall, this is a problem I have wanted to talk to BHVR about. I am really curious to see where they are going with their game. Will they just do original chapters and avoid controversy, or will they risk it all and try to add the more risky franchises. Either way, its going to be an interesting journey. Happy gaming!
Edit: Okay the Resident Evil chapter is an embarrassing catastrophe for not only the devs, but for literally everyone involved in DbD.
Three failed chapters in a row is not good for anyone. If anything this only proves my point more. They need to get these franchises in now more than ever. But based on history, I feel like DbD actually has just started going down the peak. The strikes and DbD may be out. With the whole Fnaf and Scott Cawthon controversy (please don't argue on if he deserved to be canceled or not, this is not the place for that) Fnaf may be off the table for a little bit. Alien, however, is still on.
All I can say is, BHVR, get your act together.

I completely agree. By releasing RE this early into the game they might have literally killed it.
3 -
"this early into the game"? I'm interested in what you mean by this, considering DBD's been out for 5 years.
46 -
Yeah. Only 5 years. They can 100% make it last 15 more, but now that they've added something everyone was waiting for, idk
4 -
The problem is, that's entirely subjective. There are a lot of people that are probably very excited for this chapter, and likely just as many who don't give a single ######### about Resident Evil.
There are some people who would consider a F13 or Child's Play chapter the peak.
There are some that would think a FnAF chapter is the peak, and some that think Resident Evil is the peak. I'm sure there are some people that thought Halloween would be the peak. Hell, I'm sure there are still some who think Halloween was the peak.
30 -
lowkey the biggest peak would be a cod zombies chapter but that would be me

Think this is really a reference to the Trickster and OP is using RE as cover.

I really don't think this game will last 15 years. Personally with all the issues the game has right now. If BHVR stopped pumping out half baked chapters on a regular basis to keep attracting fresh meat. The game might actually die. Let's not kid ourselves. This game has horrible retention rates. Even vets taking a year long break is rather common. The amount of people leaving and coming back when fresh content is released is almost similar to a MMO game. Only MMOs have a TON more content.
12 -
They can def fix them overtime. I highly doubt this game will die anytime soon.

Honestly I'm really nervous about RE being included in dbd. Not only does it make DBD more popular, but it solidifies BHVR's position as the owner of the asymmetrical niche. Which means less actual competition, which means BHVR has little incentive to keep doing their best.

A 20 year life estimate for a game is obscenely optimistic though. WoW is barely gonna crawl past that milestone, DbD has no chance. 5 years for a game like this is impressive enough, I really don't see it lasting for much longer. Imo, I guess another 3 years (still an incredible achievement don't get me wrong, but there's only so many franchises you can pick up to keep people entertained, and there's only so much content they can add before it becomes way too bloated with perks and characters, and we're dangerously close to that point now as it is.)
5 -
Huh, a post that brought up fnaf and no one went crazy over it. Maybe the community has changed.
4 -
DBD peaks when Jason shows up.
4 -
They will need to fix the grind. Deleting perk tiers and reducing costs are a good start. But if they do this and make the grind less, the game will last much longer than just 3 more years.
0 -
It won't change anything. It's not because there is no competition that the developpers are like 🤷🏻♀️.
It's not because suddenly there is a new game which attracts people that all the issues will disappear and being solved.
We all want the flawless and perfect game, of course, but I think we have no idea what's going on in a game developpement studio.

FNAF is a sure in eventually but the big thing with you recomendation with Alien, I just dont see happening in the future. Check out shmuckles video on the licensing issue for alien and you'll see why. I still think behaviour and dbd is fine.
0 -
I guess your right.
And this applies to me as well honestly bc I don't give a ######### about RE tbh
0 -
I mean, if DBD wants to last more than 10 years, they would need to recode the game entirely.
As for characters/franchises that could still be added over the course of the future:
- Candyman(it's gotten a bit of a cult following in this community, and honestly, I think it would be a very creative killer)
- F13
- Alien
- Predator
- FNaF
- Pinhead
- Resident Evil(there are more characters than Nemesis)
- Silent Hill(same reasoning, more characters than PH)
- Killing Floor
- Conjuring(yeah, the movies started to suck, but The Nun can be an amazing killer concept for this game)
- IT
- The Ring/Grudge
- Child's Play
- Slenderman
- Annabelle
- Blairwitch
- Amnesia
- The Evil Within
- Outlast
- Frankenstein's Monster(I mean, he's a public license, he could literally be added at any point in time, not sure how he would be interesting power-wise tho)
- Hannibal
- Psycho
- Any Lovecraftian monster
Not all of them would be equally exciting ofcourse, but there are plenty of (popular) franchises that could both improve gameplay and popularity.
2 -
If they want the most players, they need to add Peely from Fortnite.

Where do you see yourself in 15 years?
Running in circles, of course.
I doubt DbD will last that long.
7 -
I'm always so confused by the wording of such threads that tend to present something that is a 100% personal opinion as a set of universally accepted facts.
3 -
Don't tempt me
0 -
I've yet to see Negan from TWD been added to the game.
Only then it would peak.

I know some people think differently than me on a lot of these subjects. However, I also know that a lot of people think the exact same way. I like to gather information before I just assume things. I ask questions of the discord server, I ask questions here on the forums, hell I even ask questions in game.
0 -
Yeah I'm surprised too. I expected way more "Fnaf will never come to DbD you <insert some crude insult here>" but people here are actually quite cool.
1 -
I think the only thing that could top what we have now is Jason, but that's a pipe dream.
2 -
This game likely won't last another fifteen years. That's 2-3 more console generations, gaming will likely change too much in that time. Few games ever retain consistent popularity for that long. That said, there's no reason to think that the game can't still go another five or ten. It's sold millions of copies across multiple platforms, it's not small-time.
As to whether Five Nights at Freddy's would be some great rejuvenator, I have to disagree. I like the series fine, the lore is really cool. But, like an anime-infused K-pop character, FNAF is its own thing. It has its own established fandom. Bringing a FNAF character into DBD would cause just as much controversy and irritation as it would excitement and new fans. That series is, for better or worse, largely enjoyed by young adults.
That wouldn't be reaching the peak, that would be jumping the shark.

I think we all thought we got here, I mean we started with a Halloween chapter, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Nightmare on Elm Street, Saw, Ghost Face, Ash vs Evil Dead with Ash, Left 4 Dead with Bill, Stranger Things, Silent Hill and finally Resident Evil.
I think Behavior is reaching its licensing limit, which the community has demanded for years, one of the names currently being Alien and Five Night A Freddys. Other licenses that would be a hell of a lot to get would be Friday the 13th and IT. But I doubt that in 5 more years, they will run out of licenses and Behavior will not have as much recognition except for veterans.

well I'm doing polls and Alien's getting extremely well recieved.
1 -
I don't care about your reasons but I agree. I see a peak. Now it depends on their decisions. Do we keep going release one chapter by another with one unhealthy new ability by another, will we never fix maps? Will we never fix unhealthy addons, items, perks?
Will dbd be forever grindy af? Will this game stay new player unfriendly?
If so then yea. This game obv won't die but, you know.

Is it possible to feel fear and excitement at the same time?
Because I'm excited for DBD's future, but also scared of it.
0 -
People still play GTA online🤷🏾♂️
So DbD still has plenty of time left on the clock.
0 -
They could def make it last much longer than 5 years though.
0 -
With how hard the recent two chapters flopped, it is risky. I don't anyone is overthinking anything. BHVR was on a cold streak. Now they have more people than ever. They have nowhere else to go but down. Its just common logic.

Shoot, that was a typo. I meant just the last two chapters. I've been talking liscences alot and got things mixed up.

God I'd love Bill from Left 4 Dead in this game

Love this horror mugen game.

There are still plenty of killers that could come. I only mentioned this because plenty of people seem to want more Left 4 Dead. Also that was alot of quoting just to get one point across.

Mean while just sitting here hoping for an Orginal chapter based on The Headless Horseman

I was only making a joke lad lol wasn't anything serious

I made an account just to reply to this post. How ridiculous to assume your subjective opinion. I would have rather have had 1. Xenomorph 2. Chucky 3. The Thing than this chapter. Resident Evil would have been 3rd on my list, but know knowing how it turned out (underwhelming for me), he drops to 4th.
Resident Evil might have brought in new players, but it's the retention, and new content that will keep the game growing. Many fans of the RE series will leave, only leaving real fans of the game.
Think of it like a gallon of water. You fill it with one quart (new content), dump out half a quart (people leave post release), then refill it again with another quart (new content again). The gallon keeps getting fuller.

Thats another 60 killers, at least 60 survivors and 360 perks. Theres not enough creativity in the world to make that happen. Not to mention the coding could never handle even half that.
Plus from a business perspective its more lucrative to make dbd 2 and make everyone rebuy stuff.

This post aged like milk in the middle of the desert.

Am i the only one who thinks FNAF would work really well in dbd?
0 -
Who says they can't do Resident Evil Chapter 2? Add Mr. X or another killer with a new map.
0 -
For me they need to stop releasing chapters for a while, maybe until next year infact. Release new maps, rework the older ones, create new variations of existing ones, fix bugs, improve gameplay, new game modes. We reached 20 chapters, that's plenty for a while imo
2 -
Because A) That would cause alot of anger and be called lazy, as well as just not be as interesting as a new chapter, and B) BHVR cares alot about money, so they wouldn't make another liscened chapter off the same franchise because it wouldn't bring as much new players.

Dude, I am a massive fan of Fnaf and think that this game is sorely lacking fnaf characters. Tbh, Springtrap isn't the only one I would like to see, he's probably the best option, but others like Ennard would work incredibly well.

Yeah, I may have to make an edit XD
