How to instantly tell weak teammates
Altruism. An altruistic playstyle is objectively weak in DBD and its pretty much an instant sign you're not dealing with red ranks. The Survivor side isn't really a cooperative game its much more about self-sufficiency and spreading out. Being overly altruistic is detrimental more often than its helpful.

For me it's the people that run and leave scratch marks upon immediately spawning drawing the killers attention then going down 10 seconds after the chase has begun within the first minute of the match....

Remember, NEVER help your teammates. If you see somebody on a hook do NOT try to save them, lest you get labelled as a LOW RANK SURVIVOR.

He is right though. I hate teams that don't unhook. Honestly there is no point leaving a gen unless the killer is there, that's the time to focus on the unhook. It's a good strategy, cheap like tunneling or camping but effective.

I'm very altruistic because I'm not scared to play the game, and I'm actually good at it. If you use your teammates as tools for your escape, you're literally just not good at the game.
If I want to go alone and be too scared to play, I'll go play killer.

I have to disagree. An altruistic play style is the strongest way to play survivor. The numbers speak for themselves.
One survivor working on a generator alone finishes it in 80 seconds. Two survivors together finish it in 40 seconds. Three or more and the generator is toast. Pair that with one or more teammates running bond and pairing up on generators and even a decent looper with prove thyself and the killer is toast.
People who dont heal teammates and work together will compromise the entire team. If you let even one teammate die on hook to finish a gen at any stage youre potentially giving the killer multiple free kills. The only case where that isnt true is with a facecamping killer and those can be overcome with altruistic play styles like bringing BT.
That being said the indicator of "weak" teammates is anyone not teaming up to engage in efforts to help the team. If someone doesnt try to heal someone after they unhook them or is generally just wasting time stealthing around the corners of the map lol
The main giveaway to me is if i unhook someone outside the killers TR and they dont let me heal them afterwards. They just run halfway across the map in terror lol

If I see somebody with urban evasion I automatically assume they’re not saving me off hook.

I played on low ranks lately because I didn't play much survivor last month. I have seen a lot of survivors crouching in corners even if they knew that killer is on another side of map. They affraid to leave scratchmarks even if they playing against non-stealth killer and they are outside of terror radius. I wish they were more altruistic.
But most important part of good survivor is productiveness. When you not running from killer and not saving someone, you should do gens. I wish randoms in my team played like this.

The lesson here, as it usually is in threads like these: Only play a certain way, preferably the way that someone else wants you to play, lest you be criticized and mocked for being a poor player.
Alternate choice: I'm going to play however the hell I want and don't care what people have to say about it.

If they're being camped (yes even proxy camped) and you don't have BT. Thats exactly what you should do.
The Killer has minimal map pressure from staying near a hook. Slam the gens and gtfo of the game if the Killer refuses to play don't be a hero. Altruistic people that try to play hero are more likely to make things worse than better.

If the killer comes and 3 survs are at the same gen. All the pressure is gone since he knows there's only one that can ''possibly'' be doing a gen. It's better if they split up on gens

Agreed. Except in instances it’s critical to stop someone being eliminated from the gane, especially if they’re a valuable asset because they’ve been able to keep the killer in really long chases.

Urban evasioning at the start of the match. Because if they are doing it when there is no danger around, imagine when they actually have to go for a save etc.

Unfortunately, very few Killers respect DS anymore and even less Survivors actually bring it.
So Killers can get good loopers out of the game easier than ever. A good looper will usually only go down in an area once its completely burned of resources, which makes it really hard to express their skill considering they're usually being chased again the second they're unhooked.
Yes, BT it a thing but its not a perk anyone outside of a SWF can rely on because someone else has to bring it to help you. And there are no promises in solo queue. zero.

Nah, if I see there's corrupt I cleanse a totem for my Inner Strength and by then the person that spawned next to me and went running is already injured so I know the killer is in a chase and will go find a gen that isn't blocked and start hammering objective while my "teammates" hook farm and trade hooks over and over again. At least that's how a lot of my solo games go. Who knows, if Nemesis' new perk becomes meta I'll get reckless too and throw all caution to the wind cause the killer already knows where I spawned.

That's a teamwork problem, not an efficiency problem. If 3 people are on a single gen then that thing will be done in less than 40 seconds from start to finish.
In that scenario where is the 4th survivor? They're either not aware of what the other 3 are doing and are not being useful, or they are aware and don't realize that they should probably get the killers attention because 3 people on a gen are WAY faster and more efficient than one person on a gen.
Now if I was one of the 3 on a gen ... Personally I'd stay glued to the gen for as long as possible. The killer can only chase one person at a time. We'll probably finish the gen right in front of the killer while they're chasing one of us that way. I always bring BT so then I'll just unhook whoever gets downed afterwards.

Worked with a Dwight on a gen in shack. As soon as he heard a terror radius he bolted to shack pallet and dropped it. I was speechless

Agreed. Having four members against one is a strength. I might, however, agree with OP. I have never made red ranks though somehow I get about 70 of matches against red rank killers. I won't ever make red ranks because I'm not that narcissistic. I prefer to rescue someone and take the risk of getting killed so that they survive rather than just escaping myself. Sure, I have my share of selfish matches but generally, I do like to try for the rescue that feels against all odds (like a basement camp).
There again, it's true, I believe I will never make red ranks. But I will have fun and not come to hate the game because I'm so intent on being at the top of the ranks.

Using perks doesnt make someone bad. Its about HOW you use them.

So much this. The amount of hubris it takes for someone to presume someone else can't be a good player if they don't do things in a way they approve of is hilarious. Perhaps that perk one person thinks is a crutch perk fits perfectly into the style of play for someone else and makes them a stronger player.

You can play that way and not get punished for it if you just equip BT in every match, but then you're always running BT. It's unfortunate if you want to play with different perks .. but if it suits your playstyle it might make sense.
I play a lot of solo and I always bring BT and it feels like I'm always carrying my team because I almost never see anyone else playing BT. I'd rather run a totem hunting or plunderer build but doing so usually means we'll all die 😔

My wife and I also suffer this "Borrowed TIme Conundrum". I will often run Kindred so that everyone doesn't run in for rescues but we get really discouraged when we could have gotten the rescue and instead, another player without BT runs in and then it ends up being a situation where the killer gets a second down because of lack of BT... So it goes...\
I am what the OP is complaining about directly. I actually like an 'unhook' build. Borrowed Time, We're Gonne Live Forever, Deliverance and an exhaustion perk is one of my favorite builds... And to OP's point, I am terrible at chases.

I usually run DS, BT, DH, and Bond. Bond is probably the most powerful perk imo. The whole build is balanced around solo survivor problems and it's very effective but it gets boring.
I've started bringing flashlights into every match or a rainbow map with a purple glass bead so I can either keep the killer focused on me or help my teammates to find objectives/totems while I keep the killer busy.
As the only person running BT I love it when people run Kindred because it discourages bad hook saves for long enough for me to charge in with BT before someone decides to risk it. Usually ....

A really big one is positioning and general game sense. Survivors have a bizarre habit of overcommitting to things with no upside and taking unnecessary hits.
Example: survivor is working on a gen. It's at 50%. Teammate goes down. The logical place for the killer to patrol after the hook is that gen. The killer is going to go to that gen unless they're a complete bot. There is no scenario where that gen gets finished before the killer gets there. Many survivors gain no distance despite hearing the TR getting louder and then go down near the gen. Why? What's the point? What was the upside in getting an extra 5% of progress, giving no space to unhook your teammate, and maybe getting hooked next to that teammate? Walk away early, and run early if the killer patrols there. That's a minimum 30 second chase away from the hot zone for no effort. Teammates can rotate and finish the gen while you W away.
Good survivors pre-position, understand situations, and take chases to smart places. Weak players have no map awareness or game sense.

Ì have been trying to climb up from multiple rank resets of not playing and I have been stuck at rank 16 for about 3 months.
Just as likley to get a team that wipes from the first down, as you are to get a killer thats not able to get a single hit., Either way zero pips and i still want to roblox myself.

It doesn't necessarily mean they are bad, you get additional BPs for "Coop Action" if you do gens with someone else, and with Prove Thyself it's the best way to farm BPs as Survivor. I do it all the time because I care about BPs more and I never even hope to escape while playing in soloQ.

If anyone wants to rank up as solo survivor, here's my advice: run Kindred, Borrowed time, and Spine chill.
You will get annoyed with how often you pip running these.
1. Teammate gets hooked (Spine chill kept it from being you).
2.Kindred will tell you if you can make the save before someone else (do gens otherwise).
3. Rescue with borrowed time.
That's it.
I run these for 'safe rescue' challenges and pip basically every game at purple ranks.
Seriously, that's it. Stealth around the killer and rescue people. See ya soon.

You don't need BT to save a survivor off the hook when dealing with a camper. It's called take a protection hit.
I am a HUGE altruistic player and I will do everything I can to save every single teammate and get us all out, safely. If you know what you're doing and you do it well, you keep your team alive and not "make things worse" as you claim.
