I think patch 3.1 was one of the worst decisions behaviour has ever made regarding this game
In this patch, freddy got his rework.
I don't say this because I like old freddy more or anything like that (I do, but that's not the point)
I say this because, a character got removed from the game and never came back. And that is never good.
When this happens in other games, it's not fun.
In LoL they reworked the champion Aatrox. I wasn't around for it, but he was nothing like his old self in the rework.
I remember this video explaining it well
just gonna link this reddit thread, just players talking about it a bit.
(and knowing how toxic the LoL playerbase was, I can only imagine how much hate was going around at the time)
even now there are people angry about losing their favourite character. people who play new aatrox because they miss old aatrox, people who despise new aatrox for even existing.
and also people who enjoy new aatrox more and people who only ever knew new aatrox.
I'm gonna just assume everyone knows about the national dex in pokemon sword and shield...
there's more examples. Like how people felt about cyborg sub-zero in mk9 (even then, regular sub-zero still existed in mk9, people were just dreading not having him in mk10). Or with heartstone, when they changed a card effect, meaning the card people payed to get did not exist anymore, and since the game is only digital it's not like they can just pick it up and play with friends using the old effect.
but I think I made my point.
the same situation happened here. Freedy got deleted from the game and we got something different also named Freddy to replace him.
and that is just terrible.
Other characters got reworks, bubba, clown, billy. bubba changing the most from his old self.
bubba used to be a killer that would charge his chainsaw, and while using his chainsaw he would go a bit faster while having full control of his movement and could down multiple survivors at once if he managed to catch them out of position. but he had no inate ability related to slowing the pace of the game or gathering information, his power was only applicable in chase.
and new bubba is a killer that charges his chainsaw, and while using his chainsaw he goes a bit faster while having full control of his movement and can down multiple survivors at once if he manages to catch them out of position. but has no inate ability related to slowing the pace of the game or gathering information, his power is only applicable in chase.
I feel like most people would agree this is a correct description of old and new bubba (maybe someone would disagree with "a bit faster", but semantics). and yet, everyone also agrees that new bubba is very different from old bubba. because while he got a bunch of changes, his essence remained the same.
he didn't change from a fast moving, always on the offensive type of killer to a slower, more area control kind of killer.
same applies to billy and clown. Clown got an extra trick to use on matches, making him more interesting. but retaining his core gameplay.
if billy's change was good or bad aside, we can't deny that new billy, is still old billy. but with a thing saying you need to stop being billy for an annoying amount of time before resuming business as usual.
Maybe I ranted for a bit too long to arrive here, but the main point is...
-Old Freddy didn't get changed, he got deleted and replaced with something else. this is extremely unfair to every single person that enjoyed old freddy.
-new freddy will never be able to replace old freddy. he will gather his own playerbase who may or may not relate to old freddy's playerbase.
-simply changing freddy back right now would just create this exact same issue but the other way around. and I don't think you can successfully merge the 2 into 1 character while keeping both their essences. they are just too different.
-I really hope behaviour absolutely never does this again. even if you despise a character, he is someone's favourite and they should be allowed to continue having their character to play as.
I hope behaviour can recognise this mistake and find a way to bring old freddy back into the game without removing new freedy. (maybe as an addon? maybe a button on freddy to switch his power? idk)
I've been typing this for a while... I just felt nostalgic for old freddy for a bit and wanted to vent...
Anyway... let's remember the old times for a bit
edit - apparently the assets are still in the game...
there's really no excuse as to why we can't have old freddy back. either as a toggle on freedy, or a "new" killer.

Uhhhh
Patch 1.9.2
Please tell me I didn't imagine this
No matter the repercussions of the Freddy rework, patch 1.9.2 was the worst decision BHVR ever made
30 -
Freddy was certainly unique, but I feel like people put him on a pedestal for no reason other than nostalgia.
Freddy was the only killer that had to wait before he could even begin to attack a survivor in chase. Even after he put them to sleep he was just a basic M1 killer who could be looped the same as the rest.
16 -
I mean
40 -
Watching videos back then apparently this chapter was going to kill the game?
3 -
I really, genuinely don't get it.
He was, literally, an M1 killer with a delay. Who makes you hold m1 longer.
I can only rationalize it as nostalgia or just.. vastly different, borderline alien preferences.
9 -
I mean his current state is pretty much a neutered clown with a teleport so it’s not much better
2 -
Oh no his current incarnation has the culinary appeal of a beige nutrient cube, but like.. it's a thing.
3 -
Ah, it is always nice to see love for my dear Old Freddy.
The decision to completely change Freddy was indeed one of the worst decisions BVHR has ever made, second only to Patch 1.9.2 as @GoodBoyKaru mentioned. It truly was extremely unfair to Old Freddy main, such as myself, and this comes from someone who also played New Freddy.
A very simple and easy solution would be to add a "toggle" option, allowing us to choose between New Freddy and Old Freddy (on-release version, please). This, which is a very simple fix, is taking way too long to be implemented.
BVHR must have seen the feedback and backlash regarding Freddy's current power and recent nerf. They must have seen the threads and polls asking for Old Freddy. Why nothing was done, or at least said, is beyond me.
We deserve our killer back and it is about time we get him. I say it proudly, and I always will:
#GiveUsBackOldFreddy
Give our killer another chance. Give us another chance to be a nightmare.

7 seconds of Transition was hardly a problem. The issue was being unable to interrupt Survivor's actions, something the Incapacitated status effect could easily solve.
Also, Freddy did not have a chase ability because you were not supposed to chase people all the time with him. Similar to Wraith.
6 -
That’s just a dumb Freddy Player. You don’t put a survivor to sleep when you’re already on top of them.
7 -
"He was, literally, an M1 killer with a delay. Who makes you hold m1 longer."
Which happens to inhabit a different dimension, whose process of pulling people into it opened plenty of room for mindgames. Eventually combined with an extremely precise tracking.
Compare that to mr.generic power that we currently have. It is easy to see which one is better.
9 -
Old Freddy wasn't good.
He was annoying to play as and to play against.
He was Legion before Legion.
5 -
Most disagree, and so do I. His uniqueness alone was enough to make him one of the most fun killers to play, both as and against.
3 -
Indeed.
This why I think reworks to killers will never be a good idea. Buffs or nerfs are fine, but completely deleting the character isn't,
I miss my old main. #GiveUsBackOldFreddy
4 -
I don't think most people accurately remember.
Massive slowdown in dream.
Unable to interact with Survivors outside of dream.
7 second to fall asleep.
Fail a skill check to wake up.
Constant aura-reading while asleep.
He was extremely unfun, they just reworked him to be strong but boring.
4 -
Oh, trust me I remember everything. And not a single one of the things you mentioned were a problem, except one:
"Unable to interact with Survivors outside of dream."
This one was, specifically during the Transition. Being unable to interrupt actions during the Transition was a problem, a problem which the Incapacitated status effect could easily solve.
As long as you knew what you were doing he was a good killer. His on-release version was even better. Perfect, even.
All it took was a little bit of time to get used to him.
5 -
We'll have to agree to disagree.
4 -
Fair enough. To each their own.
3 -
in my defense... I wasn't around for that one... how was this ever a thing?
pedestal or not. Like you said, he was unique. and now he's gone.
him being strong or weak is not that important.
Imagine if your favourite character got removed from the game. it's bs.
I'll repeat this from my first post.
"even if you despise a character, he is someone's favourite and they should be allowed to continue having their character to play as."
legion came with a few issues...sure... every killer does. and the way legion was handled was also really bad on behaviours part. but at least they remained the same character.
that's literally every chapter
that doesn't matter.
if you want a detailed look into what freddy was or wasn't, someone will be able to help you out. maybe GeneralV, maybe someone else.
the thing is that, that character doesn't exist anymore. and that is not ok. Was he weak? strong? doesn't matter...you can't play him anymore.
instead of fixing his issues they just replaced him. and that's a terrible design choice.
I miss him...
It not like I played him a lot or anything like that. He was just fun. he was in that pool of characters that I would willingly pick without a daily or something like that.
good or bad is not important. which is why I never bring it up. (or at least I'm pretty sure I didn't)
the point is, you can't play him anymore. and that is the worst thing you can do to a character and their playerbase.
I enjoyed playing as and against freddy. so can we settle this as a matter of opinion and move on? It's not like people don't complain that new freddy isn't annoying or boring to go against.
Legion was also fine. the issue is that deep wounds was exploitable. if deep wounds worked back then just like it does now, there would be no issue. (but let's not focus on legion here)
like I said... bubbas rework was very good. so I think it can be done well. but you gotta maintain the characters essence intact.
2 -
I don't so much want old Freddy back as much as I want a fun Freddy. This one ain't it.
0 -
I see, and I miss him too. He was actually my first killer. Back when I started I only had the base game and the ANOES DLC. Played him almost exclusively until that terrible day when he got reworked.
It is about time we get him back.
0 -
You can't play as Old Legion anymore either.
1 -
agreed. that is also an issue that I wish they would revert.
but new legion still functions like old legion, you still run fast and spread damage real quick. They are different, but they are just a neutered version of themselves. and that is bad, but at least they retained their identity.
it is much more severe with freddy. because he's just not the same character anymore.
1 -
Same power, different variables. Freddy's old power is gone, and that is the problem.
2 -
fact, didn't took too long for it to be reversed
0 -
Good ending: Freddy gets reworked to be more reminiscent to his old version. (RIP Bozo)
Bad ending: Freddy remains the same.
3 -
You want them to revert removing Old Legion?
I appreciate your consistency, at least.
1 -
I disagree. The good ending is having both freddys, so no one loses their favourite character.
mixing both in one could be good or bad... and I don't see it being good. (would be happy to be proven wrong, but I feel like it will either displease fans of old freddy or new freddy. maybe both)
1 -
I need to get the Good ending, RIGHT NOW!
2 -
As cool as that would be, I dunno. If I had to pick one I'd definitely choose old Freddy. However that would definitely be the best possible ending.
2 -
that's because I'm not saying I want old freddy back because he was my main or because I hate new freddy.
I genuinely think removing a character is a terrible thing to do.
also, with current deep wounds mechanics... I don't think old legion has any exploits they can abuse.

explain

The best ending is to make Demo a blend of new and old Freddy.
That way we have a wholesome, non pedophile Killer who can teleport and pull Survivors into different dimensions.
0 -
Most certainly not. I would never choose Demo over Freddy. I don't even like Demo to begin with.
1 -
a bit overdramatic but...
a demo killed bob and that is unforgivable... we should remove demo actually.
0 -
I would love having old Freddy back, mostly because I play more survivor and I would go back to seeing him once in every 20 matches.
0 -
Psychological tests have indicated that humans have a tendency to hate things being given to them and then taken away more than not having those things given to them to begin with.
3 -
that seems correct.
but I'm not sure what you're getting at
0 -
Idk why ppl always ignore legion lol. Be happy that Freddy atleast is decent and is somewhat fun, but well lets just give a damn about Legion players LUL
0 -
-If someone got a blind or a stun at any point during the animation, the full pickup animation would play and then the killer would be stunned. It removed all skill to flashlight and pallet saves.
-Nurse got nerfed too.
Both of these changes were reverted and I think the speed that they did that is a testament to how awful of a decision it was.
1 -
Old freddy is complete crap tho...

As someone who played through that time, it genuinely felt like it.
DCs were everywhere; at first it was just against Legion or Spirit (old Prayer Beads was a very popular add-on and she had collision while phasing; making her even easier than Stridor Spirit is now), but then people realized you could DC against any Killer for any reason if you weren't having fun.
I can't testify for Survivor (though I can't imagine it was fun facing a Killer with multiple exploits that would let them win chases - and because Legion was new, everyone was playing them), but the Killer experience was absolutely miserable for quite a while because of that.
Queue times were also excrutiating at the time, which of course made the DC epidemic even more of an issue.
Have a icky game where half the players leave? Wait half an hour to play another game just like that.
And to top off the problem the devs initial action during the midchapter PTB was to buff the lethality of Legion's Feral Frenzy because they weren't fun to play as.
The devs didn't let the buffs go live and they quickly 180'd their stance on Legion later by nerfing their power into the ground, but at the time it felt like they either had no clue or didn't care about what was happening.
It was a really bad time for DbD.

I always wanted Bubba to have a brown add-on which basically removed 2 charges but increased his duration moderately. Also wasn't stackable with other add-ons.
Just something that would bring old Bubba back. Bubba is my main and I really like this new one but the old one is so near and dear to my heart.
0 -
I'd joke about this replacing speed Limiter as his BP meme add-on but then I realised that would need me to give up SL
0 -
The exploits were just the icing on top of an already incredibly flawed cake. Old Legion had so many issues on top of the moonwalking.
If they return Legion to their old state I will genuinely stop playing survivor. I'm not going through that hell again.
0 -
I don't know if I'd say most. I'd personally more likely chalk it up to an extremely passionate and vocal minority. :P
0 -
We always need a really bad point add-on lol
I know that Carburetor Tuning Guide uses all charges at once and can still work but I don't want to waste a ultra rare add-on to get old Bubba back.
0 -
Only if you had no idea what you were doing. But if you took the time to learn and understand his unique playstyle, you would have a solid mid-tier killer on your hands, with a lot of potential.
His on-release version was all of that, but better and stronger. Actually, it was a perfect power. Not a single change was ever required.
If you don't trust my word, then trust Otz:
Skip to 01:02:10 and pay attention to what he says about Freddy on-release.
0 -
So sure, are you?
0 -
I'm pretty confident, yes. I don't think a small random forum poll like that is indicative of much.
