Challenges - fun or toxic?

I love challenges (on both sides). They make me play with perks or attempt things I usually wouldn't do. It was thanks to a challenge that I discovered Autodidact is a fabulous perk and I haven't taken it off since ^^

Today I wanted to do the the challenge that requires 12 basement hooks. I figured Trapper would be the man for that along with Agitation and Iron Grasp.

To keep it short everyone took their turn in the basement. I got the 5 hooks I needed to finish the challenge and I decided to let the survivors finish the match... sadly the survivors didn't unhook someone in time and they died. They finished the match and left.

I saw at the end one was a ttv so I went to peep their channel... the swf group was raging. Calling me stupid, horrible, etc etc. Yes it was a bad match for them... but they made their fair share of mistakes. At one point I saw a crow on a basement locker... it was a free hook! On top of that they never left the basement area... makes it hard to play 'fair' when all survivors swarm the area.

Anyways, since I was trying to finish the challenge I played an aggressive Basement Trapper but with the intention of letting them go... but that still made me an a-hole... feels bad (maybe a lesson in not looking a ttv). It made me wonder if challenges are toxic or fun... clearly it wasn't fun for the players I went against.

How do you all feel about challenges? Do they promote undesirable play styles or do they add a new fresh way to play? Do you think one side has more problematic challenges? I love playing both sides but I can see how some killer challenges can be a bit shady... no one likes basement Trapper but damn does he get that challenge done fast!

    Most "challenges" aren't challenging at all. They just force you to play on a way that isn't fun for the other side.

    My fav ones are the challenges with perks. Those ones seem pretty harmless.

    What kind of challenges would you like to see in the game?

    You'd think that challenges would be just that: a challenge. But they're not. They're just busywork and grindy because they have to pad out these archives somehow. I want challenges that change up your playstyle but still give an incentive to play for the objective or for fun at the very least. Playing basement trapper is almost like you're not even playing the game anymore - you're grinding through a challenge and just trying to get it over with and no longer care about the game's objectives. That's not fun.

    I really want challenges like these out of the archives, and more challenges involving different perks or characters instead because they're absolutely not good for the game.

    I think they're really fun. They tend to make me try new builds/playstyles.

    I'd like to see ones that are actually challenging, but not miserable to go against. For example, run dull bracelet on Nurse and get a 4k before all the gems are done.

    I enjoy the challenges that require you to use different perks, complete generators, or acquire a certain number of bloodpoints. I dislike the challenges that require you to do things like stun the Killer x number of times, blind the Killer x number of times, or play altruistically since most people will just rush that and unhook you with the Killer standing right there. I also loathed the gnome chompski challenge because for that first week I kept getting slugged during ECG so that the Killer could find their charm.

    The thing is that we all have challenges and all want the bloodpoints so I don't think it's toxic to do what is asked of you - you seemed to be fair about it.

    I'm totally with you! We need mote challenges with perks/characters and less 'do this x number of times'.

    The 'unhook fellow survivors one' is one of the worst... I hate being farmed right in front of the killer ;_;

    I also like the the Glyph ones ^^ it doesn't really effect my game play and its a nice little side task to do.

    Annoying because everyone is so focused on them, you never get a "normal" trial.
