I’m a long time survivor of 4 years, but Visionary has become my crutch perk.
I just can’t do many games without it now. It helps me so much, especially with new and improved Open Handed.
I know it’s ridiculous because there are many maps I don’t “need” it per say, but even on a map like Rotten Fields I can immediately see which gen is most central, attempt to get that repaired first, and while sitting on it with my MASSIVE range on Visionary start planning exactly which gen is most important to jump onto next to increase the distance between the remaining gens.
Also whenever I don’t have Visionary and I load into Midwich, Lery’s, or Hawkins, my heart drops. Sure finding the first few gens ain’t a problem, but when it’s down to the last 1 or 2, and it seems like others aren’t on gens either, it’s becomes such a headache trying to find them and hope I don’t end up in a chase (no point me buying time for survivors that don’t seem to be using it).
Sure I know heaps of you are gonna throw Rainbow Maps, or Detectives Hunch, or the new Rookie Spirit at me, but I LOVE the almost persistent nature of Visionary, and I ADORE knowing exactly where I should try to lead the killer away from if spotted because Visionary ALWAYS tells me where dead zones are that I should run to to buy repair time for others (by dead zone I mean where there AREN’T yet to be finished gens).
Anyway, I know I go on about this perk a lot. But it’s because I LOVE it. I can never go too many matches without it before I regret not having it equipped.

I love visionary, it truly is a great perk especially when combo'd in a gen or open handed build as you stated.

If I’m looking for gens I tend to run Dectectives hunch for a 2 in 1 gen and totem perk. Helps to mitigate 3 gens and get rid or ruin or devour

the only cases were I can say I need this perk is indoor maps, but still a good perk to have...

I understand you, sometimes I can only play if I have deja vu, especially on closed maps, I will definitely level up Felix to catch visionary.

It’s an underrated aura reading perk. As I said it’s not just for finding gens easily, it’s great in chases too so I don’t accidentally screw someone over trying to get a repair finished.

This perk is for beginners and indoor maps. It even has a cooldown for some stupid reason. I guess they thought it would be OP without it.

Because they needed a secondary ability to make 3 tiers for the perk, the added a cooldown. It's dumb and hampers some creative perk ideas. that's a discussion for a different post though.

I personally don’t find the cool down much of a problem TBH. I think the point of it is to stop running from gen to gen immediately, and allow time for a heal or totem cleanse.

I love the perk, but I'm loving Leon's perk which detects which gens are regressing. It's so useful to know which ones you need to go and repair once the killer starts regressing gens.

I used visionary for a while and in one of my builds untill I found detectives hunch. It's good in an open handed build.
