I'm assuming this started after the RE update.... This isn't happening on the Series X version.

Yes it is a horrible experience on PS5. How do you know it isn't doing it on XBox?
It did start with the RE update.

I own every version of DBD....
Even in this state, the PS5 version still isn't as bad as the Switch version....lol.
