What are the dos and donts of assymetrical multiplayer?
I think this question is best asked in these forums. Assymetrical multiplayer is a tough genre to nail in the world of game design, and it's nigh impossible to satisfy everyone. But, as DbD is the current best in the genre and since we're all dedicated players, what are some dos and don't a game of its like should have? (One or two of each will do.)

Gens before friends

If it's 1v4, don't make the 4 more powerful than the 1.
The team should have to work together to have an EQUAL chance if winning against the 1.
But a 1v1 should be heavily favoring the monster or killer, or what have you.

Add random elements to keep each match feeling distinct from the last but also not so random that it can be exploited and ruin the game for everyone

Do: try to play both sides. It will give you a better understanding of each side, probably improve your skills on both roles, and more empathy during game balance discussions.
Don't: use just the meta. Use what you think is the most fun (in some cases that is the meta) because the same things repeatedly can cause burnout on any game.

Don't:
- Balance around the top 1 percent of the game. Most people in this game are casual players and balancing around a competitive scene will kill the game due to the casual player base having to sweat every match and competitive players still being dissatisfied with the games imbalanced state.
- Don't balance around new players either, that causes a lot of problems later on as people get better and better at the game.
I don't really have much for Do's but one obvious one would be to communicate with your community more for balancing issues and whatnot.

Each time I P3 a character, I play them when I got a good BP offering to use. I equip the random perks I unlocked and it's usually super fun.
I have nothing against the meta, but using perks I usually don't play is refreshing.

As a player?
Don't take asymmetrical games so seriously and be kind to one another.
Do play both roles so you experience everything the game has to offer.
A lot of people get trapped into playing one side and thinking the other is the enemy. We are all gamers trying to have fun ^^

Don’t balance based on what people post on the forums since 99% of the time they are incorrect or just biased. Same with streamers.

That's literally every player tho.
Everyone has a bias.

This is what killed Evolve as the 4 hunters out powered the one monster at the beginning of the game which often lead to the monster almost always dying in under 2 mins every single game once the hunters weren't complete potatoes.
So the team of 4 had 30+ min queues only to kill the the lone player within 2 mins OR LESS(This is counting the 1 min head start the monster gets) solely because the 4 out powered the one.

Do:
Give every character/role a skill ceiling appropriate to their power level
Make most if not all characters able to be used at higher levels of play (though not necessarily competitive level)
Force the 4 to work together through mechanics
Give the 4 the ability to evade or combat the power role with some reliability
Make abilities that are both unique and fun to use
Enforce interactions between the 4 and the power role
Make the power role slightly more powerful than the 4 combined
Listen to the playerbase to get a slightly better idea of how to balance the game
Don't:
Add hard counters of any kind unless players can change their loadout mid-game
Make counters completely reliable to the point of inspiring complacency
Make it essentially a hide-and-seek game
Make one side grindier than the other
Make one side require less total effort to win
Forget about the basic rules of game design
Give the 4 too many offensive abilities
Give either side more or less information than they should reasonably have

Decide who has the macro power andwho has the micro power. Right now, survivors have the micro power but in such a way that it translates into macro power via time wastage.
