totems placement are totally fine and are even improving
For sure they are, I always have to baby sit my totem at the very start of the match to see if a survivor spawned right on it when it's this close to a gen, I am so tired of those awful placements

The risk reward is kinda the balance of a totem perk though. If you were guaranteed a good spot devour and ruin would be insanely good

They go down instantly every time, even against people who don't know the places for them, because they're so obvious. They need to not spawn right next to gens and places in the open!

Can't be any worse than the one on top of the hill on autohaven.
Literally like a beacon if it becomes the hex. It ain't even tucked against a rock, it's essentially on the center of the hill.

Well he's a trickster, so that's issue #1.
#2 would be the fact that the jake now knows where the totem is. He will most likely be gunning for that totem whenever he has the ability to.

I spawned in front of one on Macmillan estate earlier. Felt so bad cleansing it. End of Match i checked his perks, it was his only one. Definitely needs better hiding spots

I save a screenshot everytime my totem spawn next to a gen/in the open like yours, I most likely have 50 screenshots right now, eventually i'll make a video with all of them

I spawned next to a gen and during the camera spin I saw some fire next to a locker looked and indeed ran 3 seconds and cleansed it, 20 seconds in and ruin already gone, I felt the killer pain and felt awful for it.

I mean it's an objective fact that totem spawns overall have gotten better over time. Does that mean there are zero bad spawns on any maps? No.

The spawns have been improving, they just need to make the obvious a little less obvious. Not hidden in a corner, down a corridor hidden, but like, a little bush in front of it, or just away from gens. Survivors should put a little effort into being able to completely remove a killers perk.

Yeah they are complete sh*t sometimes but remember when they were that bad ALL the time?
Undying and ruin stay up for a big chunk of the match for me unless there's someone with a map (which is see A LOT).

High risk high reward brother. Even if they hide totems in stronger locations what if the survivors have detective hunch, or counterforce. The totems would still get found quickly.

The issue is simple:
Spawnpoint on older maps (read that everything pre-hag) suffer from being added rather haphazardly to the older maps. When only hag had totems she could easily defend them with traps on these, but then you got more killers with hex perks that did not have that ability.
Let's be honest:
Swamp has nasty spawnpoints, red forest is decent-ish, lery's is obnoxious, yamaoka has spawnpoints i've seen killers being surprised about (in the 'hey, I think my totem bugged out, i had its aura but couldn't find it' sense), ormond is big enough to protect totems and glenvale has some nasty hidden spots (woodpile anyone?)
But every maps that came before hag suffers from ludicrous spawnpoints

at least they have to complete 1 gen or clease 1 or more totems to find it so it stays in the match more than 30 seconds
