Should BHVR stop supporting last gen?

The new graphics don't make up for this. They are not good enough to do so at all

I'm not buying the outdated hardware argument.
This game came out 5 years ago and now suddenly the consoles running that same game are outdated?
Not to mention that they are filled with far more visually impressive titles.
BHVR needs to invest time and expertise and if they don't have that then they should hire people that do, it's ue4 for crying out loud, the most used engine out there.
And with tech like fsr available they really really really have no excuse.
I'm just sad to see nobody being passionate about this game in that tech regard, does nobody care over there?

Even with the graphic updates it still looks like a PS3 game.

On the Switch it now looks like a PS2 game when it's on the TV screen, but the performance is still bad with its low framerate and stutters. I think it performs better in handheld mode, but the tradeoff is it's so dark I can't see anything (and I also suck with the JoyCons, but that's a me thing).

This is a very good example that it is not the Consoles fault. In general, I would not expect Publishers to abandon PS4/XBox One for a few years, because they would kill their own sales if they focus on next Gen only currently.
As a PC-player, the optimization is also visible, even tho less extreme.
E.g. currently I have a 1050 TI, downgraded because my GPU died on me. This is not the greatest GPU and it was way too expensive (thank you Pandemic/Scalpers/Miners/whatever). Since then, I can run DBD on Medium with occasional FPS-Drops, e.g. when a Gen is finished, when I am near a completed Gen (sometimes, which is baffling, sometimes it is fine, sometimes my FPS drop..) or on some Maps (Badham as Killer, as Survivor it is fine).
So it works on Medium with almost always constant 60 FPS.
Now, I also play World of Tanks - game which is actually optimized. I can still use the HD-Client (they have a SD- and a HD-Client) on Ultra-Settings (highest settings possible) with constantly at least 60 FPS. Granted, with my old GPU, I had way more, but I never drop under 60 with the highest graphical Settings possible.
Regardless of what happens in the game, like, there can be the most action, explosions, anything, I never drop under 60 FPS. And since they have a huge playerbase, their game is optimized so that literal potato PCs can play on the lower graphics on decent FPS. Like, talking about years old Hardware here, there are players who play with 10 year old gaming Laptops.
It is really not the Hardware, it is Optimization. And I am very sure that at some point in the future, PC-players will also have problems with DBD, even if they have somewhat decent Hardware.

^ and this was already a problem on Console before they started with "The Realm Beyond". Since I started playing I know that people complained in the Forums about Status Effects popping up giving them Stutters and Freezes.

So sloppy butcher has 3 effects?!
Guess I'm using sloppy butcher more

Yikes

Three years is along time that's not fast.
1 -
it was 2 years, that's pretty fast considering gta 5 is 8 years old.
Your concept of "years" is slightly warped. 2-3 years is not a lot of time.
2-3 years goes by quick.

Three years buddy PS4 came out in 2013 the last update for GTA 5 was in 2016.
1 -
no they killed updates in 2015
2 years
and considering the game is 8 years only it only lasted practically 2 years on PS3. it has been nothing but a husk on ps3 since.

PS4 Pro is from 2016 but ok
1 -
the hardware is outdated compared to PS5

Honestly - If they can't handle releasing stable updates consistently for all platforms then yes.
Here's the thing - If they want to keep upgrading their systems on the game and adding new features it's really a matter of answering these two questions.
- Can old consoles handle the technology / features BHVR wants to add?
- Can BHVR consistently handle implementing these systems on older gen consoles?
Deep down most of you probably feel BHVR can't handle it - How long do even current gen consoles go while struggling with performance? Now consider last gen consoles and imagine how bad it probably is. BHVR can barely handle a stable release on PC. Yeah they eventually take care of it but the thing is they don't have enough time to release consistent stable releases and it shows.
So to shorten the whole post it really all boils down to one thing - Can BHVR consistently release a stable update for all platforms with minor issues? In my view for what ever reason it's an obvious no. Every major update has several massive issues that emerge even after PTB testing.

RDR2, GTA V, RE Village, Mafia 3, and TLOU2 run just fine on the PS4 so I wouldn't say it's outdated
3 -
right it sounds like they either need to increase their team to add stability updates for all the systems or keep their team size the way it is and drop support for last gen.
if adding stability to last gen is posing a problem with updates it may be time to pull the plug on last gen.

Well I see it's pointless to continue to talk to you.
I'm right your wrong deal with it.
2 -
this article was in 2015.
If they did any updates in 2016 it was probably a small update, they claimed they wouldn't do any major updates after 2015.
0 -
No. As long as most people are stuck on PS4 or the Xbox variant of the ps4 because you can't upgrade because of the stock issues, they should do everything in their power to make the game playable on ps4.
If like 90% of the people are on next gen consoles, then maybe. But only with a notice WAY before they stop supporting the ps4 and xbox.
2 -
I'm pretty sure they cannot cut loose the proir gen machines while Sony & Microsoft still update & support those consoles due to contracts.
Also the majority of the playerbase is on console, with something like 80% of those still on PS4 or Xbox1 types. How could they afford to lose that huge chunk of players? And imagine the queue times of they did!
1 -
give it about 2-3 years they will probably drop support for last gen
0 -
That's what you asked a couple of pages ago.
What was the last update to the PS3? I looked and found the last update to GTA on the PS3.
Update 1.36

it wasn't a significant update.

It doesn't matter how graphically intense you make a game, there is always the option to lower it. Look at pc, It has an ultra high medium and low setting. why doesn't console?
0 -
if you lower too much like grass then 1 side gains an advantage just for having their settings on low
0 -
PEOPLE PN PC ALREADY HAVE THIS ADVANTAGE AND THE ENTIRE REASON WE NEED TO WAIT FOR UPDATES IS BECAUSE CONSOLE ARE NOTHING BUT A GIANT ROADBLOCK ( in terms of development).
The devs said they want pc and console to be 'the same game" back when crossplay was first introduced. well... It isn't the same game if it doesn't have the same options is it?
2 -
Let's be fair here console is the reason all game development is hell.
if fallout new vegas was exclusively only for PC it would have been a much better game.
0 -
But still you asked when the last update was.
I told you I switched to PS4 when they stopped the dlc's for the ps3 a couple years after the ps4 came out I didn't know when the last update was.
The bottom line is they give players time to upgrade to the next system before they stop updating those games.

It doesn't need to be. I don't understand why quality settings are taboo on console.
2 -
because it's all the same hardware and can't be modified like PC so there is nothing to change.
0 -
you are not changing anything by adjusting quality settings.
We have 2 (technically 3 if you count "pro" versions) generations of console ranging from weak to strong. i think quality settings are required in this case.
0 -
I've literally proven in the optimisation section of the forums that the PS4 pro cpu/gpu has absolutely no issue running the game flawlessly once you remove the HDD issue, but anyone with common sense knew those specs can easily run DBD anyway.
0 -
So there's no way for consoles to run DBD on anything but Ultra graphics? I'd love a setting to put it in low or even medium and see if it improves performance or not.
And I'm pretty sure they just changed all Switch consoles to low and those players rejoiced. So something is possible.
0 -
Yeah most likely
0 -
So you mean we have to wait THREE MORE WEEKS for the console freezes to be fixed?
Are you serious?
1 -
Literally who cares about graphics if the game runs poorly?
1 -
Nah, they're just expecting people to keep upgrading to handle their YandereDev coded game. That's literally it.
If you wanna defend BHVR, Apex Legends, Kingdom Hearts 3, and apparently RE8 all run perfectly fine on PS4. The PS4 is NOT the PS3, people keep forgetting how powerful it is.
DBD is not some next gen game that "only the best can run". It's not high quality, it's high garbage. The game chugs because it's badly made. Stop defending BHVR, stop giving them the "benefit of the doubt".
0 -
haha bestie you wish
it may be fixed before it goes live, it may stay as a known issue. who knows
This is nice though
0 -
"I wish"? Why would I wish that? I play on console.
Those fixes should have came out faster. smh They need to extend the Rift when Killer is basically unwinable on console.
1 -
"haha you wish" is a phrase used when you wish something would happen (either in general, on the date given, or faster), however there's a high chance of this not being the case.
0 -
What, you think DBD is automatically going to have Ray Tracing and and all that when they drop PS4 support?
Not happening.
There is no point dropping last gen support. None of the graphical updates BHVR has put on the game are nextgen level. All of it is lastgen level, and nothing they are going to do will be anything beyond what last gen level can do. DBD is not a hard game to run and it is not graphically impressive.
0 -
Nope.
I'm keeping my PlayStation Two and you can god-damn try to pry it out of my cold dead hands; when I'm six feet under.
But seriously, just no. Not everyone can upgrade to the newest stuff (nor does everyone want to.)
