Nurse Power Rework Idea

Most don’t agree with my opinion that nurse needs a power rework, but I think her power ignores core gameplay mechanics and isn’t reflective of good game design.

Her Current Power

Nurse, as it stands, is a killer that deserved her original nerf. She was overpowered and wasn’t nearly as punishing or unforgiving for wrong reads as she is now. I believe nurse was nerfed for the wrong reasons, as the devs didn’t understand why she was overpowered at the time and as a result overnerfed her. Nurse’s Nerfs didn’t actually make the Nurse much easier to go against, instead it just made her more annoying to play as. Right reads still decide the outcome of the chase regardless of the map, loop, vaults, pallets, distance etc. for this reason I think the nurse needs to have a rework. Most of her add-ons do nothing at best since the nerf, which again, just makes her less fun to play not easier to go against.

The Rework

The Nurse could get something as simple as removing blink charges/taking away fatigue on successful hits and blinks without swinging. Also with an addon pass to make her add-ons more interesting. That would be something I could agree with, and I think most people who’ve tried to play nurse could agree to something like this. Though I have an even more controversial idea. >:)

My Controversial Idea

So, as I stated previously I believe her current power that ignores gameplay mechanics is poor game design, especially since she is the ONLY CHARACTER in the game that can do so. It’s almost like giving survivor a perk that allows them to grab a shovel and dig a hole in the ground to escape the trial. This would be completely obtuse and ridiculous.

To change nurse to better play in all maps and participate in normal gameplay I would do several things; of which I shall now explain. Increase her movement speed to 4.6 m/s base and give her the ability to teleport to preset positions (like Freddy), however make it so she may teleport to gens, chests and hooks. Performing this action requires you to stand still for an amount of time. This power has a cool-down and upon teleport you turn invisible (wraith-like) and your movement speed is reduced to 3.85 (m/s) with the undetectable status effect. You may m1 strike while in this mode but not lunge. Swinging will instantly take away your undetectable and invisibility, after which you incur a stun. After the stun is finished you will once again move at 4.6 m/s.

That’s my idea, thanks for reading. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. :)

So her identity is ignoring gameplay mechanics? Or is it the “eugh” after every action?

Also you say “this.” What is “this”? There are two ideas being presented here. 😂

I hate nurse but this isn’t the way to go with her. If they are intnent on keeping her blink I’d give her 110% move speed but she can’t blink through solid objects

I would say, rework Nurse's teleport so that she can teleport 2 to 4 times, but it has a cooldown similar to Spirit. Increase her speed to 115%

Of course no. Nurse is fine as she is. Wish they hadn't put the recharge timer on her power but I understand the need for it, she was way too oppressive before, being able to blink 2/3/4 times right away as soon as the fatigue ended.

    Guess I missed that gem..

She already has an add-on that does that.. isn't that the +1 blink, but you can only blink in line of sight..? And guess what, no one ######### uses it, even in outdoors maps, cause it sucks ass!

As soon as the core is changed, meaning the lower tier killers have more of a chance. Nurse pretty much will stay where she is at the moment.

Putting teleport items on the map that the survivors can destroy.. mhmm.. where have I seen that before.. Oh yes, Demogorgon.

Seriously we don't need clones of other killers, Sally is fine as she is. She's unique, there's no point trying to make her into a mix and match of other killers. There's already too many killers that are too similar to one another.. No need to change one of the oldest ones in the game to make her a watered down clone of other killers and remove the fun of playing her.

My idea was mainly to replicate the feeling of playing jumpscare myers and make her a haunting, shambling, jumpscare killer. Though I like your idea as well. My only gripe is how they nerfed Nurse in the wrong ways and didn’t really make her easier to face for survivors, same thing with the freddy nerf; where they nerfed the wrong things and freddy is still as strong as he was.

Whilst I agree making a killer clunky is not an ideal nerf your suggestion while admirable is leaving behavior to assign designated teleport positions. That is a major hell no. For context examine trapper trap spawns they are random and awful behavior should not be trusted to assign spawns. If you want a more meaningful nurse rework blinking through walls and door might be where she needs to take a nerf. Maintain the blink as a gap closer but make it so terrain that would normally obstruct movement blocks the nurses movement. Compensate with a speed buff, fast charge speed or reduced fatigue. Try a variety of ideas but the core of nurses imbalances is the ability to blink through walls windows and pallets. That being said garbage map design as of lately has been really encouraging me to move away from killers who play a a blatantly frustrating loop game (looking at you rpd infinites). Nurse has been a ray of solace because at least I'm not at the mercy of awful downright terrible map design. Did I mention maps are terrible holy crap do they need to review there map design principles.

"If you want a more meaningful nurse rework blinking through walls and door might be where she needs to take a nerf."

I wouldn't be against it requiring 2 charges to blink through obstacles (i.e. non-lineofsight blinks, through vaults and stuff like that would still consume only 1, 2 if it's flat out blinking through walls. Or a lowered timer before getting fatigued for blinking through stuff.

But as @ilovedbd123 mentionned.. being good at playing Nurse is the reward for taking the time to learn to play her. She has a pretty high learning curve but it's so rewarding when you can start getting hits without the survivors feeding them to you out of pity. I remember when I started playing her, I used to get at most 1 hit in a match.. sometimes none at all. And then I started getting better. I'm not great, but I can handle myself. But I feel like transforming her into one of those other teleport killers' clone is not the way to go.. What next, have Spirit set "portals" before being able to phasewalk, but only from those locations?

Trapper needs the rework more than Sally does.. She already got an add-on pass, and they tweeked her power a bit.. Trapper meanwhile only had the resetting a trap without picking it up.. he's in desperate need for love. But yeah I know this is about Nurse, not Trapper.

Priority wise 100% agree there not enough of a nurse player base for her to get a rework. Trapper is definitely hurting for some changes although admittedly the indoors map have benefited him somewhat. In rpd you can lock an entire path with a trap which is rather humorous. I'm not a fan of skill making an entire opponents role as being meaningless but I do understand nurse is the stress ball a lot of killer can take advantage of when the mechanics of certain maps break the game.

The RCPD map is the only map where trapper can really shine.. that's if you can get people lost in the corridor you trapped. And with how low the chances of getting that map is...

But yeah, trapper is super hit or miss. Either you get 20 traps (slight exageration, I know) in a single match, or none at all cause they disarm them all or just step around them

Anyway, throwing ideas around is always fun, especially since we all know they won't take our suggestions and will just do whatever the ######### they please :p

I do agree trapper needs help [which you can read about both my trapper ideas here: (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/171293/trapper-power-rework-idea#latest) (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/250490/indirect-trapper-nerf#latest)]

I still think from a survivor perspective Nurse is still really annoying to go against when it’s a really good nurse, which defeats the purpose of her nerf in the first place. Though if you don’t see how a killer ignoring everything a survivor has been practicing on every other killer since they’ve gotten the game is annoying I don’t know what to tell you. I do respect your position though, and I do feel like you’d agree that almost every single add-on the nurse has makes her worse except for 4-5. Plus, are you not annoyed by the “bleah” mechanic? Do you like having that happen no matter what you do? For me, even if I am hitting 75% of my blinks the “bleah” makes it feel as if I did something bad. It’s not rewarding sound design at all. Contrast that with any other killer where you get a satisfying sound with it. Imagine any other killer but every time you get a hit they make their stun sound effect and you stare at the ground 2.5-3 seconds. That doesn’t sound fun to me.

I think you might be missing my point, which is fine. However, I believe there are weird things that you have to do as nurse that make her unnecessarily hard to play and on the same token make it unfair for survivors because of the map design. Not every map is designed for nurse, and because of that there are way to many spots where it’s easy to hit survivors as nurse. Most of the time being away from loops is safer for survivors, which means being near gens is unsafe… then it just snowballs from there w/ how many things start breaking game mechanic wise. Though I know you already disagree with me so I know this won’t change your mind.
