Progression from Xbox1 to Series X/S

I've heard that if you have DBD on disc (not through digital download) there's no save progression to the newer console either, no different than going over to PS or PC is this true? Would someone in that situation have to restart from scratch and rebuy & regrind everything?
And the reasoning behind it is due to the newer console considering it a new & entirely different game?

If you have dbd in your saved data like the saved data for your xbox you should be fine. My friend went from xbox 1 to series x and he kept his data even with the disc. Just make sure you are using the same account as the data is stored in the account
