How would you rework: black box (episode 2)

  • This one is a strange one:For Survivors in the Dream World, recently opened Exit Gates are blocked for 15 seconds.

How would you rework this one? If it doesn’t need a change, & perfectly fine let us know.

    Honestly, I have no idea what to do with this add-on, and at the same time I do.

    Currently, I don't know. And truth be told, I simply don't know what to do with Freddy's current power in general.

    However, in my idea for a Freddy Rework I actually thought about something for Black Box:


    Black Box:

    -Broken pallets are replaced by Dream Pallets

    -Non-sleeping survivors cannot see or interact with Dream Pallets

    It is definitely not the best add-on ever, but I think something to use in a chase is nice for an Ultra Rare.

    Ok, so if we have to keep the bootleg Blood Warden effect, then:

    Black Box:

    -Asleep survivors cannot escape through the Exit Gate.

    -Black Box deactivates during the last 30 seconds of the Endgame Collapse, and the Exit Gates cannot be blocked by any means during this time.

    That's the best I can come up with that's worthy of an Ultra Rare add-on, while still being an endgame add-on. It sounds oppressively strong, but take into account that if survivors wake up, it will be at an alarm clock - meaning they have 90 seconds of time to get to a gate before they fall asleep again. The "no exit gate blocking in last 30 seconds" part is to prevent Freddy slugging somebody and keeping everyone asleep and unable to escape, and then during the last 60 seconds, hooking them to trigger Blood Warden and getting an easy 4K.

    If we're talking about a different effect, then:

    Black Box:

    -The Obsession starts the trial asleep, and cannot Wake Up by any means.

    -Survivors cannot see their micro-sleep timers.

    Essentially the old effect, but with the added caveat of survivors never knowing when they're going to fall asleep. Could be fun, I think.

    It should block the gate for 15 seconds period 😈 asleep or not

    Im working on writing a Freddy rework myself, similar to ones Ive already done, and I know you have a bit of experience with Freddy. Is there anything you recommend?

    Well, I can share with you my idea for a Freddy rework, if you like:


    Power: Dream Demon


    Pull survivors into the Dream World


    -Survivors who are awake do not see The Nightmare.

    -Once targeted by The Nightmare’s power, survivors enter the Dream Transition for 7 seconds.

    -The Nightmare’s Movement Speed Penalty for putting a survivor into the Dream Transition lasts for 1 second.

    -During the Dream Transition Survivors can see The Nightmare intermittently and they suffer from the Incapacitated status effect.

    -When the Dream Transition Lapse, the Survivor is pulled into the Dream World.


    Once in the Dream World:


    -Survivor’s auras are revealed to The Nightmare when they are outside of his terror radius.

    -Survivors suffer an action speed penalty of 40%.

    -To exit the Dream World, Survivors can find non-sleeping Survivors to perform a wake up action.

    -Failed Generator Skill Checks can also wake up.

    -Hooked Survivors wake up.


    Special Ability: Dream Projection


    -Teleport to a Generator in view. Releasing the button early will cancel the action.

    -Survivors cannot interact with the targeted Generator.

    -For each Survivor in the Dream World, the cool-down of using Dream Projection is reduced by stack-able 20%.

    I also have add-ons, but that would make this post very long. Basically, it is a certain type of "mix" between his on-release power (which is different, and much better, than the Old Freddy that most of us know) and his new power.

    Unfortunately I cannot test it myself, but I believe he would've been in a good spot if this change went through.

    At first I thought you were walking about the Team Fortress 2 weapon, and I was really confused. That aside, I think being a Ultra-Rare should make it more powerful but also have a drawback.

    How about:

    Sleeping survivors have the exit gates blocked forever (instead of 15 seconds)

    Basic attacks no longer put survivors to sleep.

    Since alarm clocks were buffed in the same patch as Freddy nerfed, I don't think this would be too bad, even if it was stacked with the paintbrush addon.

    i just recently made a monster post where i address all the UR Add Ons i'd want to see changed & how i'd do so.

    Black Box was a part of that too, so here's my idea for it:


    simply make it so the Exit Gate is blocked for 15 seconds for any sleeping Survivor once they enter the gate.

    that way we can keep its current effect (which IMO is a pretty cool idea) and make it actually noticeable for both sides.

    essentially, if you want to escape while asleep, you're gonna have to plan for an extra 15 seconds of Blood Warden

    Hmmm Ill take note of a few of these ideas...

    What would you think of Freddy becoming more powerful as the trial progresses? Kind of like a tier up mechanic?

    I liked the old Black Box where the obsession is asleep and can’t wake up. It was so unique and I enjoyed using it with Nemesis/Furtive Chase. Why they changed it is beyond my understanding, and there are so many other niche add-ons they could’ve changed instead.

    I guess this is what I came up with, in terms of keeping in line with the idea behind the add-on:

    -All Survivors fall asleep when the first Exit Gate is opened.

    -Once all 5 Generators are completed, Exit Gates are blocked for Survivors in the Dream World. (That way, the last Survivor isn't screwed over something fierce if the Killer closes the Hatch on them)

    -Once at least one Exit Gate has been opened, Survivors who wake up can no longer fall asleep.

    All these ideas make Black Box good. Let me make it be on the same power level with all recent ultra rare addons:

    • Basic attacks no longer put survivors to sleep
    • You cannot attack survivors that are awake
    • When hitting a sleeping survivor, they wake up
    • Interacting with a Dream Snare or Dream Pallet puts survivors to sleep
    • Termendously increases the movement speed decrease from activating a Dream Snare (0.04 m/s)
    • Survivors that activate a Dream Pallet are stunned for 0.3 seconds.

    I made this idea when i did a freddy add on post awhile a go but this is what i would do with black box

    (Iri) Black Box:

    • One obession survivor in dream world no escape.
    • When the exit gates are open the obession survivor unable to leave through the gates for 45 seconds.
    • Any other survivor in the dream world when gates are open unable to leave through the gates for 30 seconds.
