Totems are not High Risk High Reward with current Spawns and Perks

Totems are considered High Risk High Reward but most totems I get are gone in 30 seconds because survivors are spawning on them, They're in the open, besides a Gen and Survivors have perks to find them.

This is not cool. Why does BHVR keeps on buffing Survivors to find totems?

I wish they would get rid of guaranteed totem spawns like in the middle of those rocks on Ormond, or in those 2 rocks on grim pantry. It's alot harder to guard them if survivors know right before they can even move where my totems are.

Being able to instadown and kill people or regress gens for free is pretty strong. Totem finding perks are needed to make solo bearable with hexes

We didn't get a lot of totem hunter perks lately, one perk got reworked and one was added. Small game is solid, but Counterforce is a terrible totem-hunting perk in comparison to both Small Game and Detective's Hunch.

The situation really hasn't changed much in the last couple of months, outside of the fact that a really highly requested solo play feature was tacked onto Small Game, so that gets picked up more.

I wouldn't mind them being high risk high reward if that that wheel of risk didn't include "Survivor spawns right next to lit totem"

Nothing gets me more discouraged to keep playing other than hearing two totems pop in the distance when I built my whole build around getting Devour Hope stacks.

Not saying i hate these perks or i want them nerfed. I like them, even if the totem counter should be basekit.

Its just annoying that there are still tons of bad totem spawns.

I cant tell how many times my totems gets instantly cleansed, even with undying.

    You're right.

    It's "Highest risk, high reward"

When survivor get their own totems, you guys are not going to be saying what you're saying now.

If I'm wasting an entire perk slot for totems then it damn well should tell me where totems are.

I would because it would be fair to both sides to not have a perk immediately be nullified by BS RNG.

So, you want low risk high reward or?

There's honestly some insanely good spawns on some maps like Midwich and Lerys. Some i would have never found without small game.

But other maps like Crotus still have really bad ones.

    I wanna counter this.

Swamp maps has GUARANTEED totem spawns that are insanely easy to spot, especially in the Docks. At least it feels like it's guaranteed. Everytime I spawn there that flipping map has two totem spawns near the shack that makes me want to cry.

You haven't played in Midwich recently, have you?

Either way, totems are not given to survivors. Their unchecked impact is so big that I dedicate at least one perk slot to totem interaction and I've seen more and more people running Inner Strength + DsH/SG/CF in SQ bc hexes are too good to skip. Your Hex Perk may go down fast against totem tracking perks, but it also secures wasted perk slots for survivors once they go down.

The only winners in this Hex heavy meta are the killers that play without them and can fully enjoy their perks. As a survivor, the moment you remove your totem tracking tools you'll be sent to an indoor map with against Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer.

As others said, this is part of 'high risk, high reward'. Sometimes, a Survivor will spawn right next to one, and that's just part of the risk. I myself will check my immediate area upon spawning to see if there is one close, especially if it's an area with high likelihood of having a totem(killer shack, etc). OR, if I spawn in an area where there is not a generator, and the Killer makes a beeline for my area at the very start of the match, it usually means they're checking their hex totem....and they just gave its location away to me. Certain hexes(especially Huntress Lullaby, Devour Hope)will cause me to almost immediately drop what I'm doing when I see them.

But on the whole, Survivors tend to pick the low-hanging fruit. They don't go out of their way to look for totems. If they did, we wouldn't have the controversy that we do over NOED.

True but there are 1-2 very hard one on that map each trial. It's pure rng whether your hex is one of the hard spots. I have been getting great totem spots lately devoured a whole team multiple times yesterday had 1 in the saloon on the top in that room that you can't get in without breaking a bunch of walls (survivor can get in with the vault on the balcony) and also had one spawn in the last house in haddonfield upstairs in a room (they didn't find it). Other game was midwich so ya they died.

So assuming boon totems do come out. If they are the same as killer totems high risk, high reward. As a killer would you wanna go looking around for survivor totems for a while. Would you mind having to waste an entire minute looking for a totem?

Lets say the survivor totem has a 5 second bamboozle for killer. Or it removed bloodlust for killers.

Killers go everywhere, of course they're going to stumble upon totems much more regularly than Survivors do.

You make it sound like I hate this, but I really don't.

Totems shouldn't be instantly spotted and destroyed. That's not high risk, that's just the game telling you your build won't work anymore.

Once again, SWF groups are increasing this problem.

Only one of them needs to equip one or two totem hunting perks or a map. They don't even need to cleanse them immediately as they can just forward their location to the rest of the team. Which is espacially aggravating if you manage to chase one survivor off of your totem... just to have it cleansed 20 seconds later by a teammate.

When playing solo you either take care of totems and the corresponding perks yourself - and suddenly you have three totem hunters on your team ;) - or you just hope one of your random teammates takes over this role.

Totems are literally harder to find than they have ever been. I used to ALWAYS run Small Game (which has been nerfed). The totems themselves are harder to see, even with Small Game. The spawns have changed a bit. Indoor maps? Good luck finding them, even with any totem finding perk. If you get a totem in the corn? You have to literally trip over them to find them.

You know the risk you're taking with a Hex perk. If you don't think it's worth it, stop running them.

And I agree but they shouldn't just be handed to survivors when they aren't even using those perks like so many spawns in the game currently. Right now it feels like a risk whether or not you are even gonna be given a decent chance at defending your totem at all with how some spawns are.

Corrupt intervention, haunted ground, undying, devour hope. Now you have some game slow down with corrupt and your hexs are booby trapped with a touch of mind games.

It doesn't always spawns there though. I usually check underneath the fallen roof which is an excellent totem spot, unless you've played this game enough to know about it.

It's hard to balance hexes when some maps have them in galaxy-brain Where's Waldo-esque spots (Lery's, Midwich, RCPD) and some go 'lol, just drop them somewhere, I don't care' (Autohaven, MacMillan, Ormond.) And then there's maps like Swamp where it's a coin flip whether you get a genius spot or a derp one. I tend to think that a lot of problems with hexes frequently getting no value would go away if they did a pass on some of the older maps. Coldwind definitely got better totem spots when they updated it, for everything else that I hate about the rework.

They just need to let the killer drop the totem in a spot they choose within like the first minute or two of the match. Currently the risk is way higher than the reward. Survivors have been spawning on totems forever and nothing has really changed in all honesty. I literally spawned next to totems multiple times yesterday. They have had years to get this right and make it better, and everything they have done to help hasn't really helped. Totems still spawn in the open, and next to generators. If they can't get spawns right, maybe the totem shouldn't light up for at least the first minute and a half of the match maybe.

It has always been like that.

In 2017, a few days after Freddy's release, Monto made a video where he was going for a 4-man Devour Hope. And, in that video, he says that finding Totems "is like playing Where's Waldo, with Waldo standing in a white room by himself".

    The situation still hasn't changed.
