Whats up with huntresses and hardcore proxy camping?

I've noticed that a lot of killers have a generally negative tactic associated with them that is majorly exasperated by the more dedicated mains of said killer. Spirits sweat super hard, blights prioritize gens above all else, bubba's love to facecamp, etc etc. I've noticed though with huntress, the "negative strat" they seem to nearly always do is stay within hatchet range of a hook. They won't stop gen progress, even if theres a gen being done inches away from them if they can't manage to get a hatchet over there. They'll stay in about a 10-20 meter range of the hook and snipe down anybody that gets close, and occasionally anybody they can see in the distance. Where do you think this strat started? Maybe its just my hazy memory but i don't remember this many huntresses proxy camping 1-2 people to death then afking in the end game

Am I wrong in thinking that when people say Huntress is better than Deathslinger because of 1v4, they mean the proxy camping but don't want to name it out of shame? I'm not going to claim to be god tier with either, but it really seems that the only pressure Huntress has that Slinger doesn't is chucking a hatchet over an obstacle to the hook from long range if you see someone going for the unhook.

You hit the nail on the head. Players being bad doesn’t mean the killer is actually a bad killer.

I’ve noticed with Huntresses camping is frequent (especially in basement) because she can throw her hatchet into an M1 too.

I had a Huntress camp me because I ran her for 3 gens and she just gave up. I was in soloQ so of course I died because they were scared of that very thing, that she was going to hatchet someone into an M1 so I died on first hook.

    'Proxy camping'. Lol.

Survivors: You can't be near the hook!

Killer: Okay. *Walks away, only to come back when someone's unhooked, or throw their ranged weapon at the hook.*

    Survivors: Reeee! That's 'proxy' camping!

Is the Killer not supposed to go anywhere near an unhooked Survivor until they fill out some kinda forms in triplicate? Is there some magical time limit Killers are supposed to wait before going back to an unhook? These made up terms amuse the heck out of me.

Because it's easy and does a lot of damage.

Really though, it's because it's effective. Same reason people facecamp; people do what works for them.

And as Huntress, you move slow and warn people you're coming - it doesn't matter what slowdown you use, you can't stop people from just doing gens if they split up.

So people play to her strengths and either slug or proxy camp. Huntress is one of like three Killers that can chase and down multiple people at once, so of course those two strategies are insanely powerful as her.

Obviously, Huntress can win by just chasing people and downing them very quickly; but it's not her most efficient strategy.

Ranged killer staying within range? It hurts the killer more than helps them but still, it's a good strategy for those learning her.

Ironic coming from someone with a nemesis pfp, all I find those players do is the same stuff your talking about.

As a pretty regular Huntress player, I often find that proxy camping becomes the most optimal path to the W. I'm only in the high green ranks most of the time but more often than not survivors are so quick to rush to the save that it makes 0 sense for me to go too far off. They aren't doing gens, they are just crotch walking around waiting for me to run off for no reason.

Now I want to patrol the gens but when I see 2 of the 3 non-hooked survivors walking towards the hook I might as well just hang out as well.
