Isn't stretched res cheating?

I personally would say it's cheating from a console players viewpoint. It gives an unfair advantage to ppl who use it and I feel like it's been normalized to the point where ppl consider it normal and it's just frustrates me. I'm aware that it can help with performance but I'm willing to bet the majority of ppl don't use it for that purpose

Of course people don't use it for the correct purpose but its a reason Behavior has been raising tiles on certain maps to cut the advantage part of it out also Stretched Res helps a ton for people with long monitors.

Stretched res is cheating if you use it for the advantage, and using it for an advantage (unless it's for comp play where people allow it) shouldn't be normalized. I may think that it's okay to use stretched res for better performance or for ultrawide monitors, but I don't think using it for the advantage is okay at all.

Anything that is changing the game from its default settings or settings available on all platforms is "cheating"

Even filters and low graphics provides advantages and visual benefits so I guess it depends. People that use it will say no, people that cant would say yes

    It just looks better.

It doesn't matter that I'm using things that make the game look like it's being played on a 3DS, it simply LOOKS BETTER.

Mentaly gymnastics of the people who use it, just admit the real reason you use it and be done with it.

    The real question:

Is something cheating if the Dev ignores the issue?

Yes, the same way aimbot that slips through an anticheat, or through the devs attention in a shooter is.

Imo it is cheating and the devs need to create different display options to fit screens or have it auto-fit somehow and lock those files. The same way they just did to prevent modding.

Devs typically don't ignore aimbots when they find out about it.

With how common they are in warzone it seems like it sometimes. I dont think its that they ignore it; they just can't properly fix it without a better detection system. Dbd devs cant detect people who are abusing stretched res vs people who use it for legitimate reasons, so they should lock it so people cant, same as the files they locked to prevent modding.

Another option would be to give all survivors and killers fov options to expand their fov's, but this is unlikely based on how much of the game is centered around fixed fov (I mean they devote an entire perk slot to it with shadowborn). 360's are also very dependent on the killers fixed fov.

Yes, it allows both sides to obtain information 100% not meant to be obtained, and makes a lot of movement meant for mindgames non-existent. In tournaments (lol) that matter in DBD, every person is required to stream the game to guarantee that they're not using stretched res.

For some reason BHVR refuses to, hasn't gotten around to, or simply isn't capable of, fixing it.

Does it give you a gameplay advantage that you wouldn't normally get? The answer to that question is the same as the answer to your question.

Just as much as killers increasing their gamma settings through Nvidia settings to gain an advantage(seriously, using those gamma settings, you're able to spot a p3 blendette hiding in Dead Dawg Saloon grass).

People have been trying to find advantages in this game since the dawn of DBD. People altering sounds, people constantly reloading logs to get info you're not supposed to get, people altering in-game models(especially before the in-game shop was a thing) to gain an advantage.

If altering res to help with performance isnt bannable, then altering res further cant really be bannable either. Either everyone plays with the same res, or people are allowed to change their res for their own benefit.
